Plotbunny AU 5 - WELCOME BACK TO BEACON, LOVEBIRDS

(And we're back to this nonsense. Let's go, this world ain't gonna fix itself)

Come the day of Beacon's semester starting, Jaune gets to work being everyone's brother figure, while Alyx decides to get to know Jaune's siblings, her rivals for his hugs, his crush, friends.

Between Jaune hugging everyone who stands still long enough, the entire student body cooing over Juniper, and Alyx making commentary it all goes pretty good..

Then she drags him up to Weiss and Pyrrha, and Jaune becomes a stuttering mess. Alyx decides to ask the redhead who she is, since her saying hello gave Jaune a coughing fit.

Weiss asks Alyx if she knows who Pyrrha is, and when he says no, looks like she's going to start a tirade ,but Jaune plays peacemaker.

He thought long and hard, staying up late into the night: could he pretend he never recognized her again? Try and be ensure he becomes her partner again? game the system like that?

Manipulate her with false information and half-truths like everyone else did?

(No, never. Not in a million years. Never, ever. He's not the Jaune that loved and lost, he's a shadow of that man, but he could never dream of giving her anything but choices and support)

"This is Pyrrha Nikos, Alyx. She won the tournament in Mistral four times.... oh! And she's also sponsored by my favorite cereal, where I got the sweater from!"

Let it be known that Alyx is a reformed hellion and will game the system for Jaune's sake.

"Ohhhh, sounds important. You should partner up with Jaune here, he's brave and loyal and strong, and he deserves the best partner cause he'll be their best partner in turn! Like a knight from a storybook. Team Jaune will be the place to be-"

Jaune ain't having it. He'll protect Pyrrha from everyone, even his own misplaced feelings if he needs to.

"She's also a person who deserves to have her boundaries respected and for no one to project their wants or feelings onto her, Alyx. Come on, sorry you two, please have a nice day...."

(And Jaune misses Pyrrha watching him walk away with a laser focus.)

Initiation comes. Jaune takes Juniper out of his pocket and she grows to regular size, and Jaune lands safely in the forest...

And has a panic attack

He's already changed things, he's changing things, what if he messes up? What if it all gets worse? What if- THUNK

"Hello Again! Are you okay?"

There's Pyrrha, having jumped on her spear and ridden it like a surfboard after using it's propellant features and semblance to guide it.

Because of course she makes it look effortless; riding the spear until it landed in that tree, looking down at him while he looks up.

Something clicks.

She jumps down, hair falling, and without thinking about it, he catches her in his arms, holding her there for an instant that lasts forever before setting her on her feet.

There a small smile on her face, and his helm is hiding the tears in his eyes.

She speaks to him, a beaming smile on her face:

"So, is there anymore room on Team Jaune?"

He takes off his helmet, smiling in-spite of his misgivings as something seems to align within him. And from her beaming face, he thinks he eels it, too.

"Hardy har....partner."

Eyes lidded, Pyrrha calls her spear to her hand without a thought, smiling back at him.

"Then let's get going, partner."

Jaune helps her onto Juniper, and they rush off towards the Relics.

Together.

(It all mostly works itself out, to Jaune's relief. They kill a Nevermore and a Deathstalker, with style even, and Juniper actually dropkicks an Ursa over the horizon) (When he emerges from the Forest with Pyrrha as his partner, Alyx is very smug, the little brat. Jaune hugs her anyways)

While Jaune goes to classes, Alyx doesn't spend all of her time taking care of Juniper she needs to do other things or she'll go stir crazy.

If she doesn't distract herself from the fact that everything she knew is gone, she'll go mad.

So she reads, and watches videos on her scroll, but eventually, after reading her brother's book for the sixth time, she asks Ozpin for his thoughts on it, as the resident 'Legend Expert'.

Ozpin has many thoughts, and delights at the chance to discuss Legends and the truths behind them.

(And listen, Alyx is taking everything he says with a grain of salt, she has heard many rants from the Rusted Knight about him and his habit of omitting details, but his passion for Fairy Tales seems genuine)

And one day Alyx decides she wants to be Better, yes, but to help more people be Better as well.

"How would you like to help me write a sequel to this story my brother wrote? So everyone knows the truth, even if they don't know it...."

(Playing on that Ozpin seems to be the incarnation most obsessed with mythology and researching and lecturing about them)

And so they write, weeks going on and continuing even as the semester starts and classes begin, sharing hot chocolate and occasionally taking breaks to walk Juniper and check in on Jaune, training in the forest nearby:

>The Boy Who Returned Home: A tribute to Lewis, and all he did for her and her apology note and goodbye letter and thank you all in one.

(Ozpin does hug her after they write that and have Glynda let Jaune off from classes that day, strangely fond of this girl who understands him more than anyone but also takes none of his crap)

>The Four Who Finally Arrived: The sequel to the Tale of the Rusted Knight, featuring him surviving the original story, his long vigil coming to an end, and him returning home hand in hand with his friends.

>The Four Daughters: Ozma's own apology and farewell, memorializing his failures and regrets.

(Alyx gives him the hug this time, with Juniper purring. Jaune joins in, it's kinda his thing.)

>The Paper Pleasers: A Lighthearted Tale of a kind people who only want to beautify the land....... featuring the Rusted Knight in a comedic role for a change.

>Tales of the Ever After: A series of shorts and bits, telling fantastic blurbs about fantasy characters.

>The Tree and the Blcksmith: A creation Mythos story, featuring the beginning of everything, she who remakes others again and again, and two figures that become surprisingly important.

As the semester goes on, Alyx and Jaune call his family more often, and Jaune cajoles everyone else into doing the same. They argue a little, but eventually give in. Stupid himbo and his "call your family guys, cherish them!"

Weiss calls Whitley and Winter. It goes.... awkwardly. But by the third week of sunday calls, she could almost swear Whitley was looking forward to them. Odd. Stupid eyes, stinging when she thinks about it. And Winter is so, so glad to hear Weiss gush for minutes on end about her dorm's pets and her new friends.

Tai is relieved to hear his daughters are doing well and making friends. He's not so pleased to hear that their Uncle is apparently hanging around between missions, and says he might be hanging around Vale more himself. Weird.

Blake.... okay, Blake chickens out twice in a row. But the third time, Alyx slips in and presses the button for her before slipping out with a "Hi Mrs and Mr Belladonna, we got your daughter to call, don't worry we're keeping an eye out for her stalker, have fun catching up, bye!"

Brat.

But an hour later, Blake has red rimmed eyes and gives Alyx a hug, so she's not too mad.

Pyrrha calls her mother and, fortified with Jaune's hugs and everyone's encouragement, speaks about stepping back form her sponsorship deals while she's at Beacon and opens up about wanting to be more, feeling lighter afterwards.

Ren and Nora are dragged into Jaune's calls several times, and also Pyrrha's once she starts gossiping with her mother over things after their first call, and both will admit it helps more than they would admit to feel like they belong with these people.

And that's the dose of fluff. Tune in next time for Alyx's prank war against Cardin and Roman's second defeat at Juniper's paws (And Cinder getting rekked again, of course)

Alyx not being quite as good a writer as her brother but trying SO HARD and wanting her new brother’s story to be told. Wanting his suffering to be KNOWN and talked about so it’s not like OG Jaune suffered for nothing

ALL THE FAMILY CALLS!!! Blake getting reassured that her parents love her (because they’re the best). Weiss reconciling with Whitley and showing Winter that she’s loved as a person, because fight me they both need a hug

Tai being rightly concerned about Qrow because of the plot stuff that the girls don’t know about, but also taking it as prompting to visit his daughters more often. Because god dammit visit your kids, you know where the school is

PYRRHA SETTING BOUNDARIES BECAUSE SHES FINALLY GETTING THE SUPPORT SHE DESERVES!!! YOU LOVE TO SEE IT!!!

Also I can’t remember if the Blake Faunus reveal happened already, but if it hasn’t I can’t wait for that. Also can’t wait to see when/if Jaune’s whole deal is revealed

Because I know it’s not HIS trauma, but god damn with him going above and beyond looking out for everyone, I want him to have his break down and be supported by everyone he’s helped build up

Plotbunny AU:

Okay, you want more lore for this story? Let's follow this plotbunny down the rabbit hole.

So Jaune did not travel through time. Not really. Alyx did, and Juniper followed her to meet up with Jaune again, but Jaune is more like Rory from Doctor Who: A version of him experienced that time, and he vaguely recalls it, but there's a door in his head keeping the worst of it from his conscious mind. He can open the door to let those years in and take stock, but he's still Volume 1 Jaune who had a bunch of info dumped into his head, which had the effect of making him closer to Volume 7 Jaune.

When RWBYJ left the Ever After, Vol 9 Jaune was de-aged by having the 'extra time' sucked out of him, unaware of this. This was something of a trick the Blacksmith played, at Alyx's behest, though it wasn't exactly what Alyx herself wanted.

The Blacksmith told Alyx they they could use it to make an actual Afteran Knight to stay with her and Juniper, but she protested saying that the 'extra' deserved to go home, too.

The Blacksmith said that the 'extra time' would need a vessel to make the journey, and a guide. Alyx volunteered to take it back to Remnant, but no one could carry it.

Enter Juniper. Whose purpose is and will forever be: Help Jaune. Because she loved him with all of her being, just as he loved her. And if even a part of him needed help, and helping it meant she might see it again, Juniper would gladly do anything.

Juniper became the vessel, and shrunk and slept in a cabbage until the time was right to awaken and share the memories.

And Alyx would be the guide to Remnant and to "the next vessel". She could never return to the Ever After in doing this, but she decided to be brave like the Rusted Knight and her Brother and went forward.

But desire all her time in the Ever After, she's still just a child who never grew up, suddenly in a Remnant that's so DIFFERENT from the one she knew. She doesn't know what a Scroll is, the villages she knew are gone, and since when does Vale not have a King?

She's alone, she's hungry, she's trying not to be scared becase she needs to get to Beacon and meet the Wizard named Oz, who will know where Jaune will be in this era.

But it's so hard. She's alone. She doesn't have Lewis, or Jaune, or the Blacksmith, or even the Cat, and Juniper is asleep....

But just as she sits on the sidewalk she's found herself moping on, contemplating if she's desperate enough to steal some food, someone with a higher pitched but familiar voice asks if she's okay....

And Alyx could admit, she shed a few tears and got a little clingy.

But it was Jaune, definitely. His beard was missing, his armor was almost all gone, and his voice was cracking, but he hugged her like Jaune, and he offered her food like Jaune, and he asked if she was okay like Jaune.

This was it. Mission accomplished.

So why does she hesitate in waking Juniper up?

Why not right away give him the 'extra time'?

Oh, she realizes: he's actually happy.

And Alyx decides that she doesn't want that to end, just yet.

So she takes his offered hand, and asks if he could take her to Beacon, and promises herself and also him.

I'll make sure we're both going to be Better this time.

And so it begins

I love her not revealing Juniper right away even though that was the only reason she came back. Because she’s only known this version of Jaune for five minutes but it’s already so obvious that he’s more happy than the Rusted Knight ever was

And Jaune literally just meeting this girl, but it’s JAUNE so he’s instantly like “I have to help her”

God this is all so good THIS IS ALL SO GOOD!! This is like the fix-it fic to end all fix-it fics

Plotbunny AU - Pets

Here we are with some more Plotbunny AU content.

Onto the subject of pets and how they (and mostly Juniper) effect the timeline.

So listen. Listen. Listen.

Pets are obviously allowed in Beacon. Tai sent Zwei to Beacon in canon, so we even know that this probably wasn't more of Ozpin weird favoritism/rule-weaving.

So when people see the blonde dude and his sister with their pet rabbit? Don't think much of it; it's probably there to keep her company during the day when her brother is in classes.

Then blondie brings it to initiation. And calls it his landing strategy.

And then the bunny grows bigger than a horse with its Semblance. And armored blondie is fighting Grimm from horseback jackalope-back.

Well, that's a stretch, but animals with Aura and Semblances are a thing, and he's kind of a hick, so okay.

He has a Bunny Steed, that's.... A Thing, apparently.

(The Jackalope looks super fluffy and purrs when his Team pets it. Everyone is jealous.)

(Thankfully, blondie is apparently a cheerful himbo, always happy to softly introduce them to Juniper and show them how to pet her)

(Just don't hurt Juniper or be too pushy. Blondie's sister will make you regret it)

This leads to Ruby and Yang calling Tai like, day three, and Zwei showing up much earlier. Much to Weiss's joy and Blake's dismay.

Zewi can apparently tackle Grimm and light himself on fire or blow himself up, so between being a second Emotional Support Animal at the school, he also fights Grimm with them on occasion in the forest.

(He also pees on Cardin's boots at one point, and no one can ever price that Alyx bribed him with bacon to make that happen)

Between Juniper petting session and Zwei cuddling sessions, Weiss is doing a lot better a lot faster when it comes to expressing herself positively, and Ruby is more grounded and has a stress outlet. Yang also missed Zwei and encourages him to blow himself up more often to try and 'compete' with Juniper for the spot of 'Best Team Mascot' she invented.

Blake spends more time with Juniper and kinda outs herself because of Zwei, but it's so much more controlled and less explosive than canon. No fighting terrorists or explosions. Weiss even initiates a group hug by the second semester. (She even hugs other people later. Everyone is so happy to see it)

Ren makes sure to give Juniper a balanced diet that will keep her healthy, and may or may not bake veggie cakes for her on occasion.

Nora can and will pick Juniper up and carry her around, no matter her size (excluding when she's as big as a horse) and nuzzle her face.

Pyrrha helps brush Juniper's fur and murmurs sweet nothings to her, and has been spotted taking naps with Tiny-Juniper on her chest.

Jaune is just so happy that they all get along with Juniper. It tears him up.

Alyx makes sure no one hurts Juniper or Jaune. She has a bag of ominously labeled bottles ready.... but she's trying not to use them often, yes Jaune. And also, she helps keep Juniper company during the day, talking softly to her about the Ever After.

JNPR+A all go for a picnic at least twice a week and lay back on the Big Bunny's fluffy stomach and watch the skies while cuddling. It's great and they're so emotionally healthy. (Let them be happy, I'll write it myself RT!)

This leads to some Teams, seeing these two with their exploding dog and size changing bunny, to try and emulate them.

CFVY gets a weasel they try unlocking the Aura of. No one is sure if it worked or not, but Coco dresses Mr Pumpernickel up in a tiny striped shirt and a little beret and it chitters on their shoulders a lot, so whatever.

(He also hides in Velvet's purse on more than one occasion, and jumps on Cardin's face one time. Cardin's scream was very, very high pitched, and the most humiliating thing was Velvet gently pulling the weasel off and asking Cardin if he was alright)

CRDL tried getting an actual Cardinal Bird as their 'Team Mascot' but none of them have ever kept a bird before, so that ended in hilarity, bitten fingers, and the bird flying out a window over the horizon....

They got a fish after that, which is doing surprisingly well.

One of the other faceless teams of canon has a hamster named Boo, who rolls around in a ball all day.

Glynda complains about Beacon being turned into a menagerie, but she's also spotted petting Juniper like 5 minutes later, so she probably doesn't mean it.

Emotional Support Animals make everything better in this AU, and I will never apologize for this tangent.

The pets in this AU mean so much to me. These kids are so traumatized, even this early on in the show, and my god sometimes you just need to hug a big rabbit

Plotbunny AU - pt 4

And we have yet more bits of the plotbunny AU:

Jaune is very Brother Shaped in this AU

He's seen what too much negativity does, thanks to Alyx bringing him the 'extra time' that held the memories of the future, and he knows that the people he came to call friends were all in need of a hug at one point or another.

So he might.... get a little carried away.

(Absolutely no one minds. The blonde guy in the armor is very huggable and has a very cute pet bunny that he's willing to let people pet and cuddle) Ruby blows herself up and sees that guy whose pet dropkicked a robber's escape vehicle into a Dust store? Gets greeted with a hug. She'll take it! Friendship is amazing!

Yang, checking in on her sister and seeing her talking to a tall blonde guy and his own little sister? Gets invited into a group hug when he wishes them goodnight to go tuck Alyx into bed in her room at Beacon.

Ren gets a weird half hug/steadying shoulder pat in the morning when he's half asleep when Jaune catches him nodding off against his locker, guiding him to a nearby bench.

Nora sees Jaune doling out hugs and goes "Ah yeah, bring it in!" and just goes for it. Spines pop and ribs ache and she feels loads better about being at Beacon already.

Weiss does not want a hug from tall, blonde and scraggly weirdly considerate, she just wants to pet his giant fluffy bunny. So maybe that means she lets him lift her up to pet its head, fine, that's just so she can reach Juniper's ears properly when she's so big!

Blake catches Jaune reading to Alyx and sneaks up on them to read over his shoulder and he unconsciously catcher her in another sideways hug and she will deny to her dying day that she made one of those odd little startled "blerp" sounds cats make when you surprise them.

Jaune's hugs for Pyrrha are so soft and gentle and hesitant; he hugs her like she's spun out of glass and not a 6 foot something amazon who could wreck him in a heartbeat, always silently asking her permission and making sure she's okay with any contact before he initiates it. She doesn't know it, but he wants her to have choices and the ability to refuse anything, even this small thing, he'd let her stomp on his heart a thousand times to make herself feel better in any way, and he hugs her like it when she's looking down or looking cheered.

(Yes, I have feelings about Pyrrha and her everything and how unfair it all was and always will, I'm not sorry)

He also gives Alyx so many hugs. So, so, so many.

Listen, Jaune is Alyx's Emotional Support Person and Alyx is a reformed hellion who is trying to be Better. Positive reinforcement is the way to go, and that means telling her stuff like "thank you for being considerate of their feelings Alyx" and hugging her.

Because Alyx herself wants to be better, to make up for how she treated people, how she treated her brother, and the people of the Ever After, and the Rusted Knight, and wants to write a story better than her previous one.

And she uses Jaune as her measuring stuck, as it were, since with Lewis not here she doesn't.... have anyone else.

Something Jaune is horrible aware of and feeling the pressure about. Remember, he's not really Volume 9 Jaune, not really. He has the memories of him, hazily, but he's still young, and not the man Alyx remembers, who had long confronted his flaws and worst character traits from teenager hood (and gotten new ones).

So yeah, Jaune overcompensates just as much in this story as he did in Volume 1 and 2, just with hugs and brother instinct instead of flirting and machismo.

Alyx, for her part, is still struggling not just with her own growth and regret over her own losses and actions, but seeing this Jaune so, well, emotionally healthy is putting things into perspective.

(She'll take the hugs, though. Brother Gods knows they both could use them.)

Jaune's actions and overcompensation is kind of funny, to her. But also inspiring, so she tries to emulate it in her own way. But for a reformed hellion like her, that means some different ideas of expressing affection and aid....

(I would say I am sorry to Cardin for what Alyx will do to him once she sees him bullying Velvet, but someone needs to be the butt of the joke, and it's not nearly as bad as what she does to Mercury and Adam)

Juniper is just happy for all of the extra cuddles and to see Jaune so much happier. This was worth sleeping in the cabbage for that time, for her.

Jaune is brother shaped in every media he’s in. You’ve just turned that up to eleven, like we all deserve

Your thoughts on the different hugs and relationships are so incredibly correct. He gives them all so many hugs because his friends (SIBLINGS!!!) have had hard lives and they deserve love!! Jaune is good at hugs and he gives them often!!

Giving Ruby a hug when she’s down about having no friends! Giving Yang a hug when she’s worried about her sister! Giving Ren a hug when he’s overworking himself! Giving Nora a hug when she’s dealing with being in a new place! Giving Blake casual hugs and affection that don’t come with the worry of violence!

RESPECTING WEISS’S BOUNDARIES!!!

Also, the whole thing with Pyrrha deserving to make actual choices. Yes yes yes. Arkos are so tender and so gentle and I would’ve died for them

I love Alyx trying to be a better person and basing her actions on what her newly acquired big brother does. Jaune being a role model is so incredibly precious to me. Positive reinforcement my beloved

As for Mercury and Adam, I’m fine with Mercury getting his ass kicked by Alyx. In my opinion he also deserves a chance to leave the cycle of violence. This is all he’s ever known, and he’s a victim of this life as much as Emerald is. Since this is a feel good fix-it AU, I beg you to let him heal

As for Adam… I don’t know if I like Alyx being the one to take care of him. It’s important for Blake’s growth that SHE gets to be the one to get rid of him, so I don’t know how you’re gonna handle that

Plotbunny AU - Semblances

Juniper's Semblance is indeed changing her size in the AU.

Mostly she uses it to become small and cute, staying in Jaune's pocket, or the hood of his sweater.

But Juniper can very quickly grow back to full grown size, big enough to carry four people.

(Literally every single person in Beacon is jealous of JNPR's Team Mascot being able to carry them all into battle)

She grows to be half-again as big, bigger than any moose or bear, and launches Roman in his stolen mecha into a wall at one point ,I like to imagine. Roman regrets his life choices.

Like all Semblances, Juniper's evolves in the right circumstances.

So at one point, during the Not-Fall when the Dragon Grimm shows up, Juniper grows to three times their canon size and drop kicks it. As for Jaune's Semblance.

Well.

See, Jaune and Alyx arrive something like a few weeks to a month before the semester.

And after a week, it starts to sink in for Jaune what's at stake.

Beacon falling. Vale having a Grimm infestation. Mistral's forces depleted. Atlas....

And it all starts here.

In the Vault.

Amber's pod beeps, again and again, and Jaune struggles to reconcile what lurks beyond the door in his mind, and what he knows in the here and now.

Beep. Beep. Beep.

It all started when this woman died. This woman bearing a power she never asked for, that made her the target of a psychopath like Cinder, who coveted power like it was owed to her.

And what happens when she dies? Cinder gets this power and uses it to make the world worse, because power is all she cares about and nothing and no one else. Vale falls. Pyrrha becomes a target, when all she wanted was to help people. The vault in Mistral. Atlas falling.

Jaune slams the door shut, breathing heavily.

And Qrow approaches silently, offers his flask, a stray drop hits a wire-

Beep. Beep. Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

"I hate my fucking Semblance. OZ! GET OUT HERE!"

And Jaune is panicking, because no, not now, they need more time, they aren't ready, he isn't ready, there's so much he needs to do, so many people he wants to help, so much he wants to change, and he wants to save this woman too, because fuck Cinder Fall killing more people while he watches, he can't watch another Maiden die-

And there is light.

Beep. Beep.Beep.

Qrow, Ozpin, Alyx, and Glynda arrive, and see Jaune stabilizing Amber.

"Qrow, please go to rehab."

I agree, Qrow please go to rehab. And therapy. My god just get this man some healthy coping mechanisms

Something that’s not talked about enough is how much Amber’s death (and Pyrrha’s involvement in it) would have fucking traumatized Jaune

So thank you for taking advantage of that. Because I love this scenario

He just wants to help. He just wants everyone to be happy and healthy and safe, that’s all he’s ever wanted

The mental image of Juniper riding around in Jaune’s hood is freaking adorable though, and I love it so much. She also rides on his shoulder and purrs loudly, because I found out that rabbits purr
