My new build a bear, Peony!
Hiya, pals! It’s time for another installment of Mickey Mondays, where we grab a Mickey and Friends plush and watch some Mickey and Friends Disney animation! I still want to spend another couple of weeks or so at the House of Mouse, so let’s grab our ears and settle in for some fun!
The Animation: “Donald’s Lamp Trade” is a peak House of Mouse episode for anyone who loves Donald Duck and Jafar in particular, with Jafar hypnotizing Donald to find “the lamp” in exchange for getting back at Mickey for calling Donald a ham. With Donald appearing in one of the two shorts, on top of being the main character in the wraparound, we’ve got a nice spotlight on our favorite (well mine anyway) duck! Jafar interacting with everyone in general makes for some of my favorite moments on the entire show.
“Survival of the Woodchucks” is a fun short with Donald helping Huey, Dewey, and Louie earn some Junior Woodchuck merit badges, and with its great animation depicting Donald’s relentless struggle to see this whole thing go well, my only complaint is that it could be a little longer!
Goofy searching for a sandwich culprit (who is right beside him the entire time) at the club is another entertaining highlight for the episode, with Goofy getting another chance to shine in one of his best modern shorts. “Goofy’s Radio” is a pretty simple setup with Goofy retreating to the wilderness to relax and enjoy his radio, and we get a memorable Bill Farmer voice performance along with some outstanding sight gags and sequences featuring Louie the Mountain Lion.
“Donald’s Lamp Trade” ends with the realization that Jafar is actually desiring of the kitschy lamp in Mickey’s dressing room. Mickey gladly gives it to Jafar, who cackles with absolute glee and disappears. But not before returning to turn Donald into an actual ham after Goofy makes a comment that Mickey helped Jafar and not Donald. It’s a fun, chaotic ending that shows you why this show is still a favorite for so many!
And what about that Ratigan cameo?! Easily a top 3 Disney villain for me!
“Donald’s Lamp Trade” is free to watch on YouTube! Go check it out if you haven’t!
The Plush: While not particularly related to this episode of House of Mouse, this Rare Disney Parks Riviera Resort Mickey Mouse Painter Plush 12” really caught my eye! I can see why he’s rare. I love his whole painter outfit and the Disney Riveria Resort logo on the right foot. The paint brushes and splotches of paint are a cute touch, too!
And that’s going to do it for this week’s Mickey Monday adventure! I’ll see ya real soon (next Monday) with another Mickey and Friends plush and another Mickey and Friends animation!
