Life has mini versions of himself he asks for advice or uses in the choruses of his songs or just hangs out with, but barely anyone can see them in the story, so he’s left looking like a crazy man talking to himself (which could perfectly happen, tbh, he’s drunk all the time)
Forsyth Turn is not a hero. Lordling of Turn Hall and Lysse Chipping, yes. Spymaster for the king, certainly. But hero? That’s his older brother’s job, and Kintyre Turn is nothing if not legendary. However, when a raid on the kingdom’s worst criminal results in the rescue of a bafflingly blunt woman, oddly named and even more oddly mannered, Forsyth finds his quaint, sedentary life is turned on its head. Dragged reluctantly into a quest he never expected, and fighting villains that even his brother has never managed to best, Forsyth is forced to confront his own self-shame and the demons that come with always being second-best. And, more than that, when he finally realizes where Lucy came from and why she’s here, he’ll be forced to question not only his place in the world, but the very meaning of his own existence. Sigh.... Gigantic’s servers are being shut down in a few days, so here’s some characters that never got made. It’s for sure a melancholy feeling but at least the art can live on and inspire others!
This is Javash! This hero was near and dear to my heart, I came up with the idea of an artist monk that could control sand with a unique sand staff. Lore-wise Javash grew tired of life in the monastery, he felt like if his sect was supposed to do good work they should be out in the world helping people. So he set off on his own to create art and fight injustice!
He was inspired by Hindu/Buddhist monks, sand paintings/mandalas, and Kung Fu. I also like his fun “Capcom” proportions, especially on his hands and feet. He’s also ethnically Indian, middle eastern etc. which there aren’t that many in games. The skin concept at the bottom was intended for a holiday release we were going to do an in-universe festival of lights.
Original character - Aspen (he/him) Chief of the Birds and Forest Ranger 🌿✨
More info under the cut!
Aspen’s life did not play out as he expected when he was young. He didn’t want to become Chief of the birds and, even less, rule without his family there to support him. The incident that killed both his parents and his older brother changed his life forever.
He went from being a very cheerful and outgoing kid to a reserved and serious young adult, committed to his job as Ranger protecting the city. He’s a very caring and sweet person behind his serious facade, a side of himself that he’s not afraid to show to those he loves.
He’s brave and sincere and often people rely on him for advice and support. He can easily admit when he’s scared and won’t hesitate on crying in front of others. His sweet and genuine demeanor is a result of the influence his brother Neem always had on him.
He misses him deeply and still has nightmares with him. Even after all the years since his death, Aspen still tries to live up to his memory.
Elowen was a great help in learning how to live with the grief, always sweet and understanding, his life improved greatly since then. His kids, K and P also helped him see the beauty of life again. His will to live despite everything is something to be admired.
He often wonders if he has become what his younger self dreamed to be. He’s full of insecurities and doubts himself, but even if he doesn’t believe it, he became someone his younger self would rely on. Someone his brother would be proud of.
________________________________
For a bit of context:
- Aspen’s parents and older brother died in the same incident when they went to investigate what was spoiling the crops and killing the vegetation in the borders of their realm.
That left him in charge of the Bird communities at the age of 25 (he just came of age under the bird law, but was only a teenager in elf years). The birds, specially the council of elders (seven crows that must approve every decision taken), never accepted an elf as their chief and relegated him to his job as Ranger, barely letting him take any meaningful decision, even if Aspen could claim his right to it -
These are the main characters of my story! Orris, the elven princess, her unusual companion Canna (fish) and their guide Fibian (frog). More info under the cut! 🌿✨
💛 Orris: Hotheaded, determined and very stubborn. She loves food and wine and will do anything to avoid a bath. Her main goal is fixing her staff and proving herself worthy by saving the world (she/her)
❤️ Canna: Naive, sweet and always willing to help others. Their only family are the two fish siblings for whom they’re searching for a new pond, but none seem to be worthy of their approval. They’re loving and lovable (they/them)
💚 Fibian: A laidback gardener who helps his father with their potion shop for travelers. He loves nature and knows the forest like the back of his hand; he owns a magical fanny pack where he can fit anything. He really thinks he’s taller than Orris only because his eyes are higher and he has to look down at her (he/him)
- Summary of the story -
When the Elven Princess, Orris, discovers that the ancient staff her family has been guarding for centuries is the only way to stop the End of Times, she decides to take action into her own hands. After the refusal of her parents to do something, pleading that the staff is broken, she takes it and runs into the forest. There she meets Canna, a young fish who just gained sentience and is looking for a new pond for their siblings, as theirs got destroyed in the fight between The Princess and the palace guards on her way out.
These unlikely friends swear to help each other in the face of danger and embark on the dangerous task to fix the staff and heal the world form the disease that’s slowly consuming it.
Their first stop is a cottage in the depths of the forest where it is said that a wise frog who knows the secrets of the world lives. Mr. Kallydrias, a retired historian from the capital who now owns a potion selling shop with his son, is an old friend of the royal family and the most knowledgeable man on history and ancient artifacts.
His advice for The Princess sets her on a new adventure searching for some “Sunlight Fountains” that spread across the continent, their only chance to fix the staff. Fibian, the young son of the historian, eagerly offers himself as a guide to help them cross the vast forest and reach the nearest fountain, located in the city of the birds.
