ammonite was actually genuinely a bad movie LOL. there is not one scene or moment that made up for sitting through 2 hours of dry ass cliched narrative. honestly a disservice to kate and saoirse. the chemistry just wasn’t there, they were given nothing to work with with these one dimensional ass characters and a lackluster script. saw some people saying that at least the sex scenes were worth it but they were so blue is the warmest color unnecessarily voyeuristic that they actually detracted from the overall quality of the film. again we have an attempt at lesbian romance in cinema that is exactly the kind we didn’t want and didn’t ask for. these directors make it clear every time that they think if they throw together two award winning A list actresses and have them make out and act out gratuitous graphic sex in their films then surely that formula will grab them a few oscars, but then each one of these that comes out is more uninspired and tedious than the last. probably the one part of this film that should cause actual offense is the total disservice to the historical legacy of mary anning. if THAT was the final product of francis lee’s vision when he decided to write a screenplay using a historical woman of science, add a non-historical lesbian romance to it, and try to turn that into a compelling/noteworthy piece of cinema........he shouldn’t have even tried.
