what would you reccomend as a service pokemon for someone who is visually impaired/blind?

There are many great options!

Intelligent and sweet-natured canine Pokémon like Dachsbun and Herdier are very popular for a reason. They tend to make great guide Pokémon, and can fetch and find objects very reliably. They are also famously good at problem-solving even outside the scope of the set of assistive skills they get originally trained on, which can be very important for people that like to travel, work in unique fields, or live in busy urban environments.

There are also abundant options for more specialized assistance. For example, Ambipom are quite popular here in Sinnoh for folks who have reduced vision and also struggle with some fine motor skill tasks. I have also heard of people with chronic ocular migraines who enlist service Pokémon with pain management capabilities, such as access to moves like Acupressure or Heal Pulse.

this is a wonderful question and I'm delighted to answer! I have a few ideas that could help with autism (and many parts or of the spectrum)

Sylveon, #700

Sylveon are empathetic and patient Pokemon, who are known to help ground trainers in stressful situations. This could definitely help with autistic trainers prone to meltdowns and panic attacks.

Absol, #359

Absols can help predict meltdowns, or disasters, and help their trainer avoid the said disastrous situation. Absols are known to relate with autistic trainers aswell.

Ditto, #132

Dittos can help with pretty much anything a trainer would need help with. They each have strengths and weaknesses, and the right one could understand it's trainer to learn their expressions or emotions or needs. Again, really anything!

Chansey, #113

Chansey is an amazing service Pokemon due to their patient and caring personality, they're willing to help their trainer navigate their life no matter how much it means.

Flareon, #136

Flareon would be an excellent choice for people that need assistance with grounding! Maybe Flareon could also just serve as a comfort due to it's warm body temperatures. It would also be a nice Pokemon to have in colder areas!

Hello, everyone!

Oh my, it has been a very long time since I've sat and typed out a tumblr post. I've been very active on tiktok as my primary online creative pursuit; suffice to say very shortly I'll be needing to redirect this energy back towards my roots here. I've genuinely missed it, and all you other Pokémon fans, dearly.

Let's catch up! In the past couple years since I last posted original content here, I've:

finished my MSc in Biology, focusing on wildlife conservation

worked professionally in science communication, teaching both onstage and in classrooms

expanded my understanding of social media and online connection immensely

This all means that I have a renewed sense of capability and excitement to continue with this blog that I started in my very first year of undergrad :)

Please let me know- what types/themes of content would you like to see? What are your favorite Pokémon? Are there aspects of the scientific process (specific to biology and wildlife) that you'd like to learn more about?

It may seem like a silly question, but what happens if you touch a Rotom with your hands? How does it feel? I have this same question with Phantump's ghost-like body. Btw, your blog is amazing, keep it up! 🩷

No, this is a great question!

I'll start by saying that the two Pokémon feel very different. The plasma of a Rotom's body is much warmer and more electrically conducive, owed largely to the higher density of electrons. It is presumably possible to poke all the way through a Rotom, but their cores are so dense that it would be almost impossible to not slip off to the side. Touching an offshoot of the plasma can cause some tingliness up your arm, and folks who are sensitive to ozone may notice a slight smell and even a resulting headache. Sustained close contact with an untrained Rotom can potentially lead to burns- but Rotom devices such as smartphones and PokéDexes are very efficient with heat management and are quite safe for frequent use or wear.

The plasma of a Phantump is much cooler to the touch (essentially the difference between the heat of a standard light bulb and the cool glow of the plasma in a fluorescent bulb). They are technically not wet, but most Ghost-Type trainers report that they almost feel clammy, due to the colder temperature and somewhat viscous nature of their bodies.
