In the shelter of my Polycrub the containers of Tulipa 'Rasta Parrot' (parrot tulip) are providing an explosion of colour and interest. Parrot tulips were first described in the early 17th century and have laciniate petals with narrow, irregular segments and resemble feathers.

Here come our sugar snap peas and I’m so excited. I have to keep a careful eye on them though, as they’re definitely a family favourite when it comes to garden snacks. So sweet and crunchy, they sometimes don’t even make it out of the Polycrub … I’m not complaining though. 😅🌱

A tender perennial, Canna 'Cleopatra' (Indian shot) produces clumps of green foliage with bronze stripes. The flowers are rather less sophisticated being red, yellow or a mixture of both. A fun plant for a container.

In the shelter of a Polycrub the flowers of Nerine bowdenii 'Alba' (Bowden lily, Guernsey lily) look pristine and glowing. As a summer-dormant perennial the foliage appears after the blooms in autumn once the temperature drops.

This Passiflora caerulea 'Constance Eliott' (white passion flower) was planted in the autumn as a small plant purchased from a supermarket. It has grown and flowered throughout the summer and is happy in the ornamental Polycrub known as ‘Blether’ (to have a chat). This climber thrives in moist, well-drained soil enriched with plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost. Outside the plant will need a sunny, sheltered spot protected from cold winds.

The slender herbaceous climber Tropaeolum speciosum (flame nasturtium, flame creeper, flame Indian cress, Scottish flame flower) is flowering in the Polycrub. The long-spurred, bright scarlet flowers are supported on very fine stems climbing through × Fatshedera lizei 'Annemieke' (tree ivy). The roots and long fleshy rhizomes of this Tropaeolum species need a humus rich lime-free soil, in cool shade.

In the shelter of a Polycrub a Lunaria annua var. albiflora 'Alba Variegata' (varigated white honesty) is flowering. This biennial has heart-shaped leaves with an irregular, white border and white flowers followed by flat, circular seedpods. These plants will self-seed and brighten a shaded areas.
