Charlie in a Happier Moment

We found Charlie, the Sumatran Orangutan (Pongo abelii) in the local zoo, looking happier this time. He even got down from his hammock to come closer to us.
We had to contend with reflection when photographing him through the glass screen. So we would usually refrain from pointing the camera at an oblique angle to the screen.

Shutter speed I had got for this one was 1/320 second, good enough for hand-holding the 400mm mirror lens. Contrast and saturation were tweaked in post. I was quite happy with the details from a 2013 four thirds sensor at ISO2500.

Sumatran Orangutan (Pongo abelii， 苏门答腊猩猩）。 One of the most exciting moments of our Sumatra expedition is seeing these wild hominids, our closest relatives in nature, in their natural habitats. I feel honored and extremely lucky to encounter them; meanwhile, I feel sad on the other hand for their current situation, i.e., they are critically endangered and losing their habitat to humans... (SE Aech, lowland rainforest, 400m)
