Black Tumblr has never liked Miley, we have never been here for her brand of white feminism, she doesn't stand for black women and uses us as props and shock value. No, this isn't a going from a feminist icon to a racist. To us Miley will always be a appropriating racist and white feminists will always uphold her as a feminist icon while shaming Nicki, Beyonce and other black feminists.
Fair enough. I suppose this is a matter of perspective. I have never seen any posts criticizing Miley before, so it comes across as shallow and reactionary hatred when suddenly she can only be viewed as this terrible person. If you’ve had problems with her for a while, then I can respect that. I can also respect the view point that considers the flaws she displayed the other night alongside her virtues. However, it seems insincere when one day you are heralding her as the figure of progressivism and the next you are denouncing her as hateful and awful. And, just so it’s clear, I stand with Nicki on this issue. The way Miley handled things was so beyond wrong. I just wish people wouldn’t turn their opinion on a dime just because tumblr says you must.
