BL shows have been following the limited format almost as a rule for quite a while now, but every once in a blue moon creatives will dish out sequels, either as spin-offs, complementary parts or in some instances new seasons. More recently we saw an influx of JBLs that scored sophomore runs, and Thailand is not all that averse in tapping into tried and tested IPs either. Here is a small list of shows that could (and some should) see more episodes for the count:
School Trip: Joined a Group I'm not Close To
The JBL juggernaut still hot from the presses seems like a solid candidate for another season. Its superb performance in its home country and in international markets took channel ABC by surprise. While they scramble to provide content for fans, such as magazines, visual books, and home media, plans for the future may be drawn up as I write this.
Prospect: Of all the shows on this list, this one has the best chance. It became so popular that the publisher of the novel ordered a manga version and reprints of books one and two. The second novel follows Watarai and Hioki as they navigate dating life and while there isn't much drama or conflict, the live-action adaptation could explore new grounds, such as the potential side couple that fans (and actor Kairi Shimizu) keep asking for.
Love Begins in the World of If
Both Daigo and Daisuke have expressed interest in returning to the now franchise. Not only that, but the author of the original novel has returned to this universe with new side stories that explore events taking place after book one which the live-action is based on.
Prospect: Had the latest wave of JBL sequels received a better reception, a new season would be a sure thing. As it stands, a lot hinges on MBS's willingness to give them a new lease. Keep in mind that Robin Furuya and Makoto Hasegawa have been asking for a new season of their own BL series on the same network for two years now…
Love Is A Poison
Left in a cliffhanger that would lead into the events taking place in the second book with Haruto’s father taking the role of main villain, this zany legal-romance is unfortunately tied to a channel that simply could not care less for it.
Prospect: Pains me to say, but slim to none. Even with pennies for a budget and a good audience reception despite disastrous launch Doku Koi was never a priority for TBS. It’s the one JBL of 2024 without home media release to this day.
If It’s With You
The solar slice of life featuring Ryuga Wataru and Takato Okura got it's leads clamoring for more since launch, EP Tatsuya Iwakura is also vocal about wanting to do more. At the time of it’s release Narakoi was still being published, now with new volumes they could come back and adapt the remaining books which focus on Amane and Ryuji’s dating era.
Prospect: Low, but no out of the realm of possibility. Narakoi has a strong local fanbase and so do the actors, with the manga now complete the only piece missing is a green light from producers.
I Became the Main Role of a BL Drama
The adorkable meta-comedy burned a lot of the goodwill of it’s audience with an underwhelming season two, sure now it sits atop of the pack from the sequels of 2025 since most of them were terrible, but that’s not to say they are completely out of the game, but there is a twist here…
Prospects: There is hope but not for what you might think. During season two, the show’s team kept teasing and asking fans about the managers, and two things happened after their sophomore season wrapped: the managers got their own manga and Ogoe Yuki and Shun Watanabe appeared in multiple rankings of Most-Wanted spin-off CPs (Japan has very specific ranks…) — The socials for the show were dormant until not long ago, but came back this month to promote Alan's new show...
I Hear the Sunspot
The fall from grace seen with this show should be a study case. From critical darling to all-around mess, Hidamari managed to betray the source material and it’s audience with such gusto that it was truly impressive. Initially taunted as multi-part project, the tepid reception to the back half of the series thrawned any future plans.
Prospect: Despite a few lingering souls clinging to the carcass of a once great show, this one is not going to craw it’s way from the grave. It would also need more than a miracle to get one of it’s main actors to return considering he didn’t want to be there to being with…
Ossan’s Love
Returns truly felt like the most special send-off to the blueprint of modern JBLs, and while I’m not all that thrilled with the idea of them coming back there is some external factors that might indicate a return to the franchise. Leading man Tanaka Kei saw himself in a web of scandals and Ossan’s could work as ticket to get into the good graces of general audiences.
Prospect: Really depends on how desperate Tanaka is to get this going, also Ossan’s always seems like is done for and somehow returns without much notice. Nothing is impossible for this franchise.
Semantic Error
The K-BL of all K-BLs is always blipping on the radar when talking about new seasons. This one is a special case because it was meant to have another one indeed but leading man Seoham had to enlist in the military and all plans went belly up.
Prospect: the moment Seoham left the military he re-joined with the team behind the show and his partner Jaechan in a discreet gathering, sparkling rumors anew, but production house Watcha is currently facing internal issues with many suitors eyeing it’s catalogue. Things are on hold here.
Love For Love’s Sake
If I had made this list last year, this show would have never appeared in it. However, Taevin confirmed that season two was in pre-production, but things fell through around August of last year. Many blamed Cha Joowan for the failed launch, as Joowan has signed with a bigger agency and unfortunately all signs point to them not allowing him to join the show due pure homophobia.
One thing to note: after season one, the novel got a sequel in the format of a small companion book that chronicles Myungha and Chaewon as a couple and planning their wedding in Taiwan.
Prospect: There is a pulse, but very faint. Production team Studio CoffeeBreak is currently working on Never Forget Your Enemy, a joint production with WeTV based in Thailand — both actors still talk proudly of the show and were featured at W Korea's 2026 watchlist speaking of it.
Love Tractor
At one point this seemed like a sure thing but three years later it does not seem like we will return to the beautiful countryside of South Korea. While the show did wrapped quite neatly, a lot was left out from the book in season one, and fans keep asking for them to return.
Prospect: a summer dream. That said, leads Kim Kwan Soo and Yoon Do Jin remain super close and are well-liked by local and international audiences, unfortunately after all this time it would be quite costly to get everyone back together, Kwan Soo himself has stepped back from acting citing lack of good opportunities. It does feel like the window for another go on this tractor went by without anyone to ride it.
We Best Love
Another case in which things were supposed to happen but did not. The Taiwanese dual-piece was meant to be a trilogy with the third and final season encompassing the wedding and married life of the main couple. A total-trainwreck of a marketing blitz pulled the breaks on any plans for more though.
Prospect: A remake seems more likely. Despite everything that transpired after the show was done, leading man Sam Li and director Ray Jiang look back fondly at it, but none seems inclined to return.
The Only One
Probably the most traumatic event of 2024 was the post-show catastrophe regarding this taiwanese marvel: Director Liu Kuang Hui truly believed that he could get season two running, even managing to start conversations with GOL/Portico Media in order to make it happen and at one point it seemed like it would, but everything fell apart when the team holding the rights to the IP blindsided everyone with a financial scam.
Prospect: It would take a necromancer to get this one going, and it would in fact return like a zombie, a mockery of the original form. The team behind (or someone claiming to be them) started a crowd-funding campaign that implied that if the show returned it would need to recast the main actors. Nothing came out of it, and since nobody was answering eyes turned to Liu Kuang and blamed him for the fiasco.
Kiseki – Dear to Me
Speaking of disastrous post-show, Kiseki left a mark in BL-history as the worst case of crazy fan behavior seen in Taiwan, with Louis Chang vowing to never return to the genre (no one can really blame him thou). However, while the Ai Di we came to know might never return that does not mean other characters can’t appear again.
Prospect: A new casting announcement picked everyone’s interest, with signs pointing to a potential Kiseki spin-off as the biggest candidate. Taro Lin and Kai Hsu are still attached to the hip, and one phone call away from returning to their characters — curiously they have yet to make the traditional CP cameo Taiwan so often does.
First Note of Love
Tragic how little fanfare one of the best BL shows from Taiwan in 2024 caused, this gagaoolala original was actually planned to be the first of four shows, not directly related but within it’s own universe. There were also plans for a spin off featuring the side couple Reese and Orca, but things ended up going in a different direction.
Prospect: Very unlikely in any case. The spin off ended up being converted into a webtoon and while Tim Liu did sign a project deal with Star Hunter nothing came out of it, at least yet. The Thai company has been very silent, more likely scrambling to get anything of the ground now that it lost Mos and Banksy (who were also in First Note of Love).
Anti Reset/Eternal Butler
The V-BL universe has graced us with two human/android romances that had no right to be as good as they were. Joe Tsai knows that people loved these two shows, with Eternal Butler being the most popular series from it’s branch of V-BL shows. With more droids roaming around (and one of them spotting a very familiar face) the possibilities are there.
Prospects: If it happened, I wouldn’t be surprised.
The Boy Next World
Despite a rocky tenure on air with people holding on to this mess, Boy Next World did make some noise which could prompt more from it considering that it did leave in a cliffhanger. However, MeMind moves really slow, so much so that the scenario now is completely different.
Prospect: Maybe in a clever cameo from the characters in a different Mame show, other than that… Boss is busy elsewhere, Noeul does not look inclined to return now and side couple Forth and Donut left the company due neglect. If there is any hope is that the new Japanese remake will tie any loose ends seen in the Thai version.
I Feel You Linger in the Air
The MVP of 2023 had everything going for it, accolades and audience numbers to die for. More than a special episode, they got a movie that could’ve worked as a bridge to season two, but since then things cooled off and cast and crew went separate and distant ways.
Prospect: Never say never, but it would take a herculean effort to get this running again. Nonkul was also hesitant about returning to the genre after bad experiences with the fandom, so it seems very unlikely.
Pit Babe
This feels like a treat more than anything. Change has been dropping subtle hints that could unleash a new season of the once flagship series, but a terrible reception from the fandom and a catastrophic marketing blitz that saw Pavel and the crew at odds with the direction the show took point to the ultimate sectioning of the franchise, but money talks and Pit Babe makes them bank.
Prospect: Recent events might have been the final nail in the coffin of the faux-abo drama, but much like the plot in season two of Pit Babe, Change could resurrect this IP without any reason other than money, they profit with inflated international tours and it's an effective way to promote the 349279 actors in the network's roster.
Mandate
This one moves differently from the rest; it does not follow the traditional BL rules and as such things could take an unexpected turn at any moment now. The season finale left many doors open, Monomax only has to say yes to more.
Prospect: Mandate was being shopped for international release at the tail end of 2025 — that’s how it ended up at gagaoolala in some markets — it’s also held in great regard by critics and in terms of numbers it’s one of the most engaged Monomax shows of last year. If the stars align, we could see them returning for more this year.
For the beginning of 2026, I was thinking about hosting a free art raffle !
Before organizing anything though, I'd like to see whether that's something you'd like to participate in, so:
rob and rom have appeared at a football match. twitter is flipping their lids about it and i'm screenshotting it like "hehehehe they're going to love this on tumblr"
