power is halfway out the apartment window when choso finds her. not like she’s leaving, not really. she’s just leaning out so far her stomach is pressed to the windowsill, legs kicking lazily behind her while she squints down at the street below like she’s planning something deeply suspicious.

the apartment itself is quiet, sunlight spills through the window and stretches across the floorboards, catching in the messy edges of the living room where power has clearly been lounging for hours.

choso had only stepped out of the kitchen for a moment, and somehow she had already migrated toward the window like a cat spotting movement outside.

“power.”

his voice is calm, patient. choso doesn’t raise it, doesn’t rush forward, even though she’s hanging halfway into open air like gravity might decide to collect her at any moment.

she doesn’t even look back.

“there is a pigeon down there,” she says, pointing with absolute authority. “a very fat one. the fattest i have ever seen. i am considering claiming it.”

choso pauses in the doorway of the living room. he watches the way her finger sticks straight out the window, the seriousness in her tone almost makes it sound like an important discovery.

“…claiming it?”

“yes.”

her legs kick again. her heel lightly bumps the side of the wall as she continues staring outside with lazer sharp focus.

“as my subordinate.”

there’s a moment of silence before choso slowly walks over, careful like he’s approaching a stray animal that might bolt or do something unpredictable. he already knows if he startles her, she’ll either jump or climb farther out just to prove she can.

power notices him getting closer and immediately points down again.

“look at it. look. it is clearly a leader among pigeons. see how large it is?”

choso leans down slightly and peers out the window. he looks exactly where she’s pointing, following the line of her finger with concentration.

there is, in fact, a pigeon.

it is not particularly large.

it is standing on a discarded french fry.

“…i see,” choso says.

power whips around, eyes bright with justification. her whole expression lights up like someone just confirmed the greatest theory ever spoken aloud.

“you do! i knew it! you have good judgment!”

she scrambles fully back into the apartment and plants her hands on her hips. the sudden movement makes her hair bounce wildly as she turns toward the room like she’s already won something.

“i will capture it.”

choso blinks once.

“no.”

“why not.”

“because you will fall out the window.”

“i would not.”

she crosses her arms like a deeply offended queen. the confidence in her face is absolute, like gravity is something that only happens to other people.

“i possess excellent balance.”

right then she steps backward, immediately trips on the edge of the rug, and windmills her arms. her entire body jerks in that panicked way.

choso catches her before she hits the floor. his hands close around her shoulders easily, steady and quick, stopping the fall before it really begins.

power freezes in his grip.

they stare at each other.

“…that was a tactical move” she says finally.

choso gently sets her back on her feet.

“of course.”

she nods, satisfied he understands her brilliance. she straightens up immediately after, brushing nonexistent dust from her clothes like nothing embarrassing just happened.

from the couch, meowy lifts its head and gives a single unimpressed “mrrp.”

power immediately points at the cat.

“do not listen to that creature. it is jealous of my athletic ability.”

choso quietly moves the rug flatter with his foot so she won’t trip again. the motion is small and automatic, like something he does without thinking (such a big brother).

power notices and squints at him.

“…why are you always doing that?”

“doing what.”

“the… fixing things thing.”

she gestures vaguely at the rug, the window, the kitchen, the entire world. her hand moves in a wide circle like she’s describing every tiny adjustment he’s made since he got there.

“like when you moved the chair yesterday because you said it was ‘in the walking path.’ i knew where the chair was.”

choso thinks for a moment. he doesn’t answer immediately, like he’s actually considering the question seriously instead of brushing it off.

“…i don’t want you getting hurt.”

power looks at him like he just said something strange. the expression on her face is confused first, then slightly suspicious, like she’s trying to figure out why someone would say that so casually.

“i would simply recover.”

“still.”

she studies his face for a long moment. power is not good with sincerity. it makes her itchy in a way she doesn’t understand.

so naturally she ruins it immediately.

“if anyone should worry about injuries, it should be you,” she says proudly. “i am extremely strong. far stronger than the average person. probably stronger than most animals.”

“i believe you.”

“good.”

she nods. the conversation, in her mind, has ended with her winning.

then she plops down on the couch, grabbing a handful of chips from the bag she left there earlier. the bag crinkles loudly in the quiet room as she digs into it with no restraint.

meowy hops into her lap like this was always the plan.

choso watches her for a moment. he doesn’t interrupt, just sits back slightly as he observes the scene unfold.

she eats like a raccoon, crumbs everywhere.

meowy tries to steal one.

“thief!” power yells, holding the bag away from the cat. “this is my food!”

meowy meows again.

power narrows her eyes. “…fine. you may have one.”

she places a chip delicately in front of the cat like she’s offering to royalty. the gesture is oddly careful compared to everything else she does.

choso quietly walks over and sits in the chair across from her. the chair creaks lightly under his weight as he settles back.

power notices immediately. “what?”

“nothing.”

“you are staring.”

“i’m not.”

she squints harder. her eyes narrow into suspicious little slits like she’s trying to catch him in something.

“…you are doing the older brother thing.”

choso pauses.

“what is the older brother thing.”

“the thing where you sit there like you are monitoring me.”

“i am not monitoring you.”

power shoves three chips in her mouth at once. the bag crinkles loudly again as crumbs scatter down onto her shirt and lap.

choso reaches for a napkin.

power points at him with greasy fingers.

“see! there it is again!”

“…what?”

“the cleaning.”

he hands her the napkin.

she stares at it like it personally offended her. “…i did not ask for this.”

“i know.”

she takes it anyway.

then she wipes her hands dramatically, like a queen accepting a servant’s offering.

“you are a good servant,” she announces.

choso nods, “thank you.”

power freezes, “…you were supposed to object.”

“why?”

she stares at him for several seconds. the silence stretches long enough for her irritation to grow.

“this is deeply unsatisfying.”

meowy crunches the chip loudly.

power sighs like she’s surrounded by idiots.

choso watches her for another moment. her hair is a mess, strands sticking out in different directions like she’s been wrestling with animals.

there’s chip crumbs in it.

she doesn’t notice.

she’s busy arguing with the cat now.

“…you already had one,” she says sternly.

meowy meows.

“do not try to manipulate me.”

another meow.

“…fine. one more.”

choso stands up and walks to the kitchen. he moves quietly through the doorway like he’s done this routine many times already.

power shouts after him. “where are you going?”

“getting something.”

“if it is more food, bring it here.”

a moment later he comes back with a small brush.

power immediately goes still. “what is that?”

“there are crumbs in your hair.”

“…that is none of your business.”

choso gently brushes them out anyway. his movements are slow and careful so he doesn’t pull her hair.

power sits there stiffly while he does it. “…i was saving those.”

“i see.”

a pause.

“…choso.”

“yes.”

“…if i fall out the window trying to capture the pigeon later, will you catch me again?”

“yes.”

she nods, satisfied. “good.”

then she grins, wide and toothy.

“because the pigeon will be mine.”

and i literally did not know what to write for this story, i just thought about pigeons and went with it😭

"What's wrong? Ya couldn't sleep? ", you turned your head to see Power, slowly walking towards you with Meowy in her arms.

She plops herself beside you as Meowy jumps from her arms to her favorite soft cushion.

"Yeah.. It's been a shitty day today".

Power made a hmm sound as she scrunched her face.

"That's all the more reason to sleep! If I feel shitty i just kill someone or eat and sleep! ", cackling, she wraps her arms around your waist, rocking you a bit. For a moment, no sound was heard, apart from the whirring of fan.

"...though...gonna...die.. "

"Wassdat??", Power perks her head up, "Speak up (y/n) "

"I thought you were gonna die, Power. I-if Denji wasn't there with you.. I-", your voice starting breaking and you averted your eyes to avoid letting her notice them tearing up.

Power flinched at your broken voice. She wished she knew how to make you feel better. But devils weren't known inherently to empathize with humans. Devils technically couldn't die either, but something in her miraculously told her you didn't want to hear it right now

"Geez, humans cry so easily.. " she joked but no response from you. Power awkwardly looked around the room before grumbling and pulled you towards her.

"Wha-?! " you froze as your face was placed on her chest.

"See?? Don't you hear it? I'm alive, dumb human"

Thump, thump

A really pretty sound

"Cry for me when I'm dead, which wouldn't happen, because I'm the strongest! So.. ", Power peered down at you.

"Don't make that ugly face again"

"Eww were you trying to sound cool Power?? That was gross ", you giggled as Power blushed.

"Ugh sh-shut up, now get away", you held onto her waist tighter as response.

"No.. I think I'll listen to your heartbeat a bit more. It's really calming", you looked up at her

"Please?"

Silently, Power leaned back into the couch to accommodate you more, making you pleasantly surprised.

"G'night.."

You smiled as you closed your eyes, your ears picking up the sound soon enough.

Thump, thump

Thump, thump

You could finally feel it lulling you to sleep, making you drowsy.

Her heartbeat might as well be your favorite sound after this.

Power prefers keeping her hair long, refusing to cut it, not even for a trim. But sometimes she’s too impatient with it and a little careless.

One time, you found gum in her hair. It was so old it had hardened and Aki needed to cut it out, but not without Power clocking him in the jaw first.

If she can't undo her ponytail on the first attempt, she’ll get angry and yank it out, then cry about how much it hurts.

So you’ve taken the liberty of helping her. Patiently, you pull her long, rose-tinted strands from the knotted, tan rubber band (Denji probably gave it to her at work, not realizing it would tangle her hair more) until it’s free. Grabbing the conditioner spray, you lightly spritz while brushing out the strands on the nape of her neck, holding her head gently. At first she kept squirming around, too impatient to sit quietly on the floor in front of you.

“Ugh! How much longer of this?”

“I just started, Power.”

“Hmmph, this is stupid,”

She scowls and crosses her arms tightly. You reach for the remote and switch the TV on. The VHS for Princess Mononoke was still inside and began playing midway through.

“Here, finish your movie while I finish brushing.”

Power lifts her shoulders to adjust and drops her hands down to her lap. Soon her mouth falls open in the shape of an ‘o’ while watching the screen.

“Those wolves are big,” she says aloud, mostly to herself.

You section out her hair, determined to comb out every part. A tiny flower petal, most likely from the blooming trees outside, catches your eye and you pluck it from her hair.

“Do you want two braids today or one?”

She doesn’t answer, still in a trance from the movie.

“Pow? How many?”

“I say two,” Denji chimes while walking from the bedroom to the kitchen.

“Two.” she agrees.

AKI's relationship with you is solemn. Stolen nights filled with throes of love that aren’t outwardly spoken. Aki never says he loves you, never will. If you were to ask why, he would blame it on the ‘love devil.’ ‘If he were to manifest it into this world —into his hands, it would take from him more than he could ever offer.’

In this case, let’s hope he’s still not in love with Makima. let’s hope he knows that the pattern of her doings have the scent of ill intent. So, he does everything to protect you. 

Takes ‘smoke breaks’ to talk to you on the phone.

Aki will never introduce you to Power and Denji, he would hate for your connotation of him to dim. Since they live with him, Aki has another apartment where he spends his time with you. 

Now, back to these ‘stolen nights.’ Where Aki slowly but surely unravels his thread of emotions around you, but sometimes— sometimes when nights get too dark —too suffocating, he gets tangled in a canvas of insecurity and fear. What if he loses Denji? What if he loses Power? What if he loses you? 

He never does convey his thoughts with words. But he does convey them with damp cheeks. Pale ones that shine as he places it into the crook of your neck while his salty tears cling to your skin. And his arms cling to your sides with intensity, not enough to hurt you, but enough to remind himself that you’re here, right now, with him.

And with the way he holds you, it’s almost as if he wants you and him both to melt, together. And if he could, he would. Because god knows, this life of his was too cruel. He’s fine with it, he thinks. But his chest aches whenever he thinks of this world being cruel to you. 

In some way, you’re his angel and he appreciates you with every undamaged fiber of his being.  And Aki swears up and down that the devil inside of him does too. 

POWER lies and says you’re just entertainment because that’s what humans are; weird but interesting things. But it’s all a facade, of course. 

Power is one hundred percent a tsundere. She takes you to her home she shares with Aki and Denji just to show you off. But when you try to give her so much as a kiss, she’s pushing you away with a hiss. 

Everyone knows that she actually loves you –it’s almost amusing to see her try to deny her feelings for such a ‘lowly human’– but there’s no denying that she’s head over heels for you. Aki and Denji see it in the way she actually puts effort into looking or smelling her best whenever she sees you. 

Power’s a little dense, so she doesn’t see anything wrong with introducing you to her line of work. She might even try to convince you to join, just to be ‘partners in crime.’ It takes Aki’s convincing to explain to her that it’s not.. necessarily safe. Which she’s confused about because ‘isn’t that what makes it fun?’ but she discards the thought once Aki tells her that he could lose you. 

Power hates the thought of that and also the thought of you being so fragile. 

Because... who else would she bite randomly at night? (sometimes in broad daylight) Who else would feed Meowy when she forgot to? (Which was all the time) Who else would remove her breast pads when she forgot to? (She hates the blush that graces her cheeks whenever your hand grazes past her chest) Who else would remind her to bathe? (She coaxes you to bathe with her, probably only really bathes when you’re there.)

DENJI's complicated…. to say the least. He is and will never be over Makima, so it seems. He always finds himself comparing her to you. In some way, you’re the only tie to humanity he has left. 

Don't be mistaken, he loves you but why does he feel such a tie with Makima? And why does it pull at his heartstrings and yours whenever she's mentioned?

If you're in a relationship with Denji, him being handsy is a guarantee.

Will brag about your...ehm– boobs to everyone he knows. You have to remind him sometimes to just tone it down just a bit. Especially if he's in front of others.

Kisses you at random. They'll be sloppy, beware. You have to guide him.. and guide him in everything else. Teach him how to cook, he won't be able to do it but the thought, is what's best 😁.

Apart from Makima, you might be wary of Power but once you observe longer you don't seem to find any problems. Though, Denji might encourage you to make friends with Power but that's all up to her.

when Pochtia aka his devil comes out full throttle and Denji's going berserk ;deep into an abyss of violence where he can and only wants to see blood, he reminds himself to think about you. Because it's you who he has to make sure to come back to.

Of course, he has to come back to you, it's always been you, right?
