Fluff | Chainsaw man AU | Established Relationship | Public Safety isn't exactly known for hiring normal people… and Aki wouldn't have you any other way.
* Warning: mention of blood.
The smell of blood quickly fills the small space inside the car.
Another job completed.
You had cracked your window open. Being able to feel the wind on your skin always helped to bring you back.
Your heart beating slower. Fresh air in your lungs.
Aki drove, like always. Hands steady on the wheel. Jaw set.
His mind is still preoccupied with the mission you had just complete. How violent you had been. How fearless and confident you had become in your abilities.
How much blood.
Your opponent never stood a chance with the two of you together.
While your husband replayed the mission in his head, you found yourself mesmerized by his features instead.
"You missed a spot," you say sweetly, leaning over the center console with a cloth.
Aki keeps his eyes on the road, a real professional, like always.
"...where?" He asks, looking at his reflection in the rearview mirror without much success.
With the cloth wrapped around your finger, you tap softly on the spot right under his jaw. Slowly. Deliberately.
"Oh, right there."
You feel him tense under your touch. No matter how many years you spent by each others sides. He braces himself for more of your touch while you crave his every silent reaction.
His grip tightening on the wheel. Knuckles turning white.
"Sit back." he almost order.
But, as usual, you don't necessarily obey his command.
Instead— instead, you lean closer, pressing a kiss where blood had been moments ago, on your precious husband's skin.
"There," you say pulling back into your seat. "All clean." Your sweet and innocent face not nearly matching your blood soaked uniform.
Where Aki only had a few splatters, you were almost drenched.
The man exhale through his nose, slightly shaking his head. "You're insane, love."
You smile up at him like he handed you a love letter. "Thanks, babe."
The car slowly comes to a stop, waiting at a red light.
Aki finally turns to look at you, his usual stern expression softens when they land on you. Fond like every time his tired blue eyes settle on you, he remembers all the years that you spent together that led the two of you to this moment.
And why he'd do it all again in a heartbeat.
Your hair is a mess, too stubborn to stay how you tied them in the first place. Your uniform not only stained but torn at different places. Red liquid marking your face like war paint.
All the while you look at him like when you hand him his coffee in the morning. Soft, honest and unfiltered.
"You hurt?" he asks quietly.
You tilt your head. "Are you worried Mr. Hayakawa?"
Your husband sighs at your usual teasing. "Answer the question Ms. Hayakawa."
"No," you answer truthfully. "It's not mine."
His hand moves like a reflex. Brushing your cheek with his thumb.
Dragging gently through the dried blood staining your skin.
Checking. Assessing. Taking care. Even if he won't admit it.
"...good." He mutters.
Without even thinking, you find yourself leaning into his touch. As much as you're teasing him. You're as hopeless as he is.
"You know," you say softly, breaking the soft silence in the car. "most husbands would panic."
"Well, first, we are not most people," he starts, a small smile tugging at the side of his mouth. "—and second, that's why you married me."
The light turns green. But Aki doesn't move right away. Like time and space entirely stopped around you.
"...you always flirt with me after every mission," he says, his dark eyes fixed on yours.
"Only when we survive."
"I wouldn't let the opposite happen."
You wink at him. "Exactly."
Aki shakes his head, the car starts moving again. "...crazy."
You lean your body over the console again, your head resting on his shoulder while he safely drives through the streets.
"But I'm your crazy," you mutter, breathing in his scent instead of the smell of blood on your clothes.
Aki doesn't answer. He doesn't need to. After thousands of mornings and evenings shared together. You know what the other means without even using words.
Your hand softly resting on his thigh as he presses on the gas pedal. But his hand finds yours soon after, holding it in his own.
Firm, grounding, his thumb slowly tracing across your knuckles.
After a moment, your eyes close. No matter how the missions go, or how many devils cross your path, unravelling another chaos.
You'll always have your husband enabling your crazy... and cherishing every part of you.
