I bought myself a pretty beaded rope necklace, and I need to show it off for at least partially fandom reasons. Because I was largely unaware of beaded rope jewellery until reading pprfath's (@wordsformurder) excellent Naughty Hookers series (Teen Wolf fandom, in which Stiles is the owner of a craft store and Peter Hale is the guardian for his young niblings, including newly crochet-obsessed kid Derek).
Anyway, there's a timestamp fic of Laura trying out different crafts over time, and eventually seeing and trying beaded rope work, and that turning out to be her crafting thing. Beautiful little story. So of course I then had to go look up what beaded rope jewellery (also known as bead crochet) looks like and... nice. Some of it is garish and some of it is gorgeous and of course also everything in between. It's also vaguely familiar, in that way that means that I had probably seen it before; I suspect there may have been a brief fad for it in the late 60s or early 70s when I was a kid. Maybe. So on and off for the last few years I've been looking at examples of it online and thinking of maybe buying myself a bracelet or necklace, if I ever spotted a piece I liked enough.
Recently this necklace turned up in an Etsy search, by an artist in the Ukraine, and I LOVED the colours and felt sure they'd go well with my peacock scarf from last year (which as the picture shows they clearly do). Of course I can never look at it without thinking of that particular story (and series), either.
