My new practice head arrived today but he’s in such good condition i almost dont even want to paint on him. I'v never seen such a virgin bjd head like this. XD

About “practice heads”

Since I just saw someone who fell for the heads on ebay and maybe as a general note: the so called “practice heads” on ebay are usually recasts. They are marked as “practice head” to fool people into buying them who are afraid of messing up their first doll, heard how practice heads are a thing and so on. Please do NOT buy these heads. What people actually mean when they say “buy a practice head” is that you should find a cheap, legit head you can practice on while leaving your other dolls alone. A head you can freely paint on while your own doll can keep a nice default/custom face-up, or a doll you can mod without having to alter one of your dolls. There is no such thing as “a” practice head, like a head especially made for this, it’s just a term used by us to describe what we mean. A practice head can be a damaged second-hand one, a head from a cheaper company, a sleeping head you got with your doll you don’t want to use, some event head you got or one of the heads that are sold for cheap by companies. You can for example buy a Ban/Lan head from Akagi for 25$.

Feel free to link more companies that sell heads for cheap so people can use them as practice heads. EDIT 2: Removed the MoC links since they changed their business model. Additional options are still below: Doll Family-A offers on Alice’s Collection cheap heads. Sometimes they offer 20$ practice heads too! Additionally, Miro and Resinsoul offer affordable heads, and unlike many of the other options you can get darker skintones there too (sometimes you need to ask for it, as it’s not an option in the store). Mystic Kids and some other companies are affordable too. In some cases it’s only the small heads, but you can learn on a 1/4 head without issue.
