Australia...
Just something really quick today. Wanted to illustrate what I was feeling inside as I was reading an article about the bushfires. It breaks my heart hearing and seeing the news almost every single day about Australia's devastating bushfire and the impact it has on the wildlife population, specially the Koalas. Quoted by Terri Irwin, "it could be necessary to enlist Koalas as endangered species after this devastating event"😔 and another by a fireman, “Kangaroos can hop away, but koalas can’t escape.” my heart just broke at that line. If anyone feels the same way, don't be afraid to look up on how one can help aid Australia during this time of crisis. #drawing #art #illustration #prayforaustralia #koala https://www.instagram.com/p/B7JYIE6JQFw/?igshid=i70pkmaiycms
my country is burning
ok, this is a serious issue right now in australia!
More than 150 fires continue to burn across New South Wales, Authorities has issued emergency alerts for only 10 of those fires. The towns that are most concerned fires burning on the NSW South Coast including Nowra and Eden, Also concerns in the Snowy Mountains and The Southern Highlands.
In Victoria, about 50 fires continue to burn, mostly in the states North-East and Alpine area. Emergency warnings were active for 12 of those fires at 11pm, the only good news is that authorities revised the number of missing persons from 28 to six, both of the fires in NSW & VIC have destroyed more than 1,500 homes and claimed 23 lives so far. Significant Power Outages were experienced across the two states as well. Now on to South Australia
In South Australia, there were two confirmed fatalities, on Kangaroo Island. A Father and Son. With the blaze also wiping out much of the national park about 170,000 hectares, or a third of the island has burned so far.
In Western Australia, the town of Norseman at the junction of the Coolgardie - Esperance and Eyre Highways is today facing 5th straight day of full road closure to Coolgardie, Kalgoorlie, Norseman, Esperance and to the South Australian Border, About 175 emergency services personally are battling the blazes and more than 320,000 acres have so far been destroyed. Parts of the town resembled “tent city” because of the stuck truck drivers and tourists, the department of fire and emergency services deputy commissioner said two trucks had left Esperance yesterday to supply food and water to Norseman and Roadhouses.
The 2019-20 Australian bushfires season has burned an estimated 12,350,000 acres of land have burned across Australia.
Millions of animals are dead and hundreds of thousands more will perish over coming days as a result of killer bushfires, In University of Sydney ecologists, earlier this week that bushfires are likely to have killed 500 millions animals since September. Native wildlife and agricultural livestock are among the fatalities, with already endangered species at greater risks of extinction, the extent of the carnage may never be known.
A state of disaster has been declared for six local government areas and three alpine resorts in Victoria, and a state of emergency has been declared in NSW.

The Port Macquarie Koala Hospital have raised more than $2 million for the wildlife affected in that area, with the initial aim of using the money to distribute automatic drinking stations in the burnt areas to help in koala and wildlife survival.
The organisation are now sharing the funds with other wildlife organisations in the fire affected regions across NSW. You can donate

For anyone not yet aware, Australia is fucking burning...
More than the Notre Dame, more than the fucking Amazon. MILLIONS of hectares of land, livestock, wildlife (yes, the Koalas!!) farmland, towns, homes are fucking gone.
Families have lost every single possession they had, they’ve lost loved ones and so many are just trying to cling to whatever hope they can find.
Firefighters, so many of who are volunteers, are trying to find ways to protect their friends and family, all while trying to maintain an actual income at the same time. Volunteers have only one uniform and are spending over twelve hours doing everything they can, only to go home, and not even have time to wash their clothing before going back out again the next day. Their resources are limited, some masks are faulty and some helmets don’t even fit. But they’re out here, trying to save the country from hundreds of fires burning across several states.
Towns are in complete darkness from the smoke, and glow of the fires themselves, too many people have been told that it’s simply too late to leave. That fires have become so uncontrollable in some areas that they simply didn’t have time, the people, or the resources to save homes. People are being told to leave what they have behind because there isn’t enough manpower to save entire towns. In some cases, as little as two firefighters have been allocated a 20km area (12 miles) to protect on their own, because so many went over to help with the worst of the fires in NSW. We are only one month into Summer, and I don’t need to tell you how hot it’s been here. The world knows how dangerous temperatures have become in Australia, but there’s still two months left of unbearable, unnatural and unpredictable weather waiting for us with the possibility of not seeing enough rain to ease the plight of those trying to fight the blazes until February. Cities are surrounded, towns have been left no choice but to take refuge by lakes and oceans just so they might have some hope of surviving if and when the fire’s close in. Even places that aren’t even burning are suffering through the smoke-filled air while it blankets nearby towns and cities (you couldn’t see the Sydney Harbour Bridge) as a painful fucking reminder of what's going on right now. Nobody is given a moment to not think about it. We can’t stop thinking about it.
So while you’re somewhere else in the world, or maybe even right here, fighting, evacuating or watching in horror as our country turns so quickly from beautiful to burnt, spare Australia and the people that call this place home a thought. Think, Pray, Hope for the people suffering through the unthinkable and spread the word.
I know the images below are awful, confronting and downright heartwrenching, but knowing what’s happening, and seeing it, are two different things.
God’s never been very good with “right” and “wrong.”
