I wish there was more media set in prehistoric times.
The bulk of such things seems to be stuff from around the 60s, and usually features a lot of ... no.
Rather than early people interacting with dinosaurs, I wanna see more megafauna (though a few dinosaurs isn’t going to be held against it). I want group hunting with atatls. I want people fishing. I want people gathering a communal stockpile of food.
I want to see character designs, where the people’s clothes actually function like clothes, and they’re wearing necklaces and bracelets - because people have been accessorizing for milenia! Heck, let’s have a few tattoos in there too! And everyone has hair that’s long and either UP or BACK because loose, long hair is a pain in the ass. Give me characters wearing furs and skins that have been cut and stitched into actual clothing. Let them dye some items red or green or blue or yellow! People love colour!
I want plotlines that are fun even while being serious and dramatic. Maybe the overall storyline can be about two clans fighting each other, that’s fine. But give me a plotline where the villain claims to be a demigod, but really they’re just good at talking and have discovered a psychoactive herb. Something different.
The rest of the time should just be cute or funny moments of daily life - of people trying to survive and live with their families. Of romance. Of life. Of love. Of people trying new things - like, hey, how can we eat this plant I found? Or, how can we make this thing easier? Show me the early inventions of people as they try to improve their lives.
I just want something about people in prehistoric times, that paints them as people, and gives me warm and fuzzies one minute, and on the edge of my seat rooting for the protagonists the next.
Also, I want a side character who’s the village crackpot for like half of it, because he’s convinced that “the children’s toy the wheel” will be useful. No one believes him until he makes an axle. ‘Cause a wheel is useless without an axle and no one seems to realize this.
Say hi to Argus, my little raptor boy. He likes meat, belly scritches and treats. And him “reeeeee-ing” cause I’m a serious artist. (I know the anatomy is crap but I’ll get better at it as I continue drawing him.)
