If not souls, can you tell me something I didn't know about hearts? (I know very little)
I would LOVE to tell you something you didn't know about hearts! (I love talking about hearts, thus the PFP XD)
I'm guessing you knew hearts have four chambers, but they also have four valves!
These valves closing are where the heartbeat sound comes from!
A person's heart is about the size of their fist. For someone with small hands, it might be closer to both hands clasped together!
It takes about 25 years to reach a billion heartbeats!
It takes about the same amount of power to drive a truck to the moon and back as for the heart to continually beat for a person's whole life!
So long as it is continually provided with energy (oxygen & glucose), the heart will beat by itself!
This is because it has its own pacing system, independent from the overall nervous system!
When in proximity to one another, hearts will beat in sync! (In fact, it seems they prefer to do so, and will match any rhythm presented with, to the best of their abilities!)
The heart is connected to the brain via the vagus nerve! This is why you feel things in your chest/around your heart when you have emotions! It's just your brain keeping your heart 'in the loop' more or less!
We learned more about heart disease risk factors in a single study (the Framingham Heart Study) than any other research on it combined!
