cw // discussion of lewis-m*x crashes in imola and silverstone — sorry but. seeing the way people treat the imola and silverstone crashes makes me want to be physically sick. m*x’s car ended up on lewis’ HEAD. i know in the initial footage it doesn’t look as serious, but if you slow it down, it’s impossible not to see. if it wasn’t for the halo… i don’t even want to think about it. and m*x’s response ‘that’s what happens when you don’t leave a space’? gtfo of here. how dare you. (1/2)
anon from the other day here! i’m sending part two again, ty again for your time 💛: ..meanwhile the silverstone crash is treated so seriously. and my issue isn’t that the silverstone crash was treated seriously (it was a big crash, ik), but the monza crash was dismissed so easily? because the ss crash ‘looked’ worse? because only one driver was injured? or because rbr twisted the narrative after the fact? who knows! 🙄 sorry to bring old drama up, i just watched those clips and got emotional 😭
hi anon!!
yeah i've seen footage of the crashes quite a few times, imola is sickening. seriously i cannot be grateful enough for the invention of the halo, because that was horrifying. and maks's response to it was so fucking infuriating as well like... well you can't always expect people not to call your bluff and give you space!! he'd been giving you space the entire season, shut the fuck up! yes racing incidents happen and it's an inherently dangerous sport etc. etc. but for fuck's sake, you don't need to make it worse by driving like you don't care what happens to everyone else as long as you make it to the finish line first.
silverstone is treated more seriously i guess because of a few things. one, rbr definitely controlled the narrative and made it out to be much worse than it was. secondly, it happened the same week as the euro cup finals. there was already a rising tide of racist rhetoric and abuse within sports fans due to england losing in the penalties of the finals. then lewis won at his home circuit, and what should've been a victory for english sports fans got worse. rbr definitely capitalized on it. i don't know if it was their explicit intention to take advantage of the racial abuse going on at the time, but it definitely worked in their favor. they sure as shit didn't discourage their fans beyond a basic-ass "lol racism bad don't do that" which is. SO unhelpful lmao it's such a basic statement that it's easy as fuck to ignore. i don't think i need to remind anyone of all the shit rbr said (literal murder accusations, the fuck), and the way maks behaved, even after lewis called him to make sure he's ok and clarify that he hadn't known maks was being checked up in the hospital when he'd celebrated his podium. (also reminder lol maks had no trouble celebrating his podium in the same race romain grosjean crashed and was literally on fire, but nooo it's hypocritical for lewis to celebrate when maks was in the hospital... for a ROUTINE CHECK UP. make it make sense.)
i'm not saying all rbr fans are racist. but there's definitely this willingness in them to overlook the way rbr treats lewis, and the racial component to it. it's not because lewis and maks had a rivalry or because lewis was dominating at the time. look how rbr fans were doing their whole "ReSpEcTFuL RiVaLrY" thing with ferrari fans this year. the problem was never lewis or mercedes or merc fans. the problem was always rbr and their fans.
