For @genderthings Pride Bingo event prompt “eyeliner” | rating: G | wc: 695 | POV: Nancy Wheeler Summary: Nancy asks Eddie for help doing her eyeliner. AO3
Nancy stared at the uneven lines with a grimace. There was no way around it. She needed help.
But who should she call? Steve and Jonathan were out; even if they knew how to achieve what she wanted. she wasn't asking her exes for makeup advice.
Chrissy was a no go, her normal look was much too soft for what Nancy wanted; and Robin… well Robin was the girl she wanted to impress in the first place.
Then the answer hit her: Eddie. His stage makeup was close to what Nancy was going for.
“Mom can I borrow the car?” She asked Karen in the kitchen.
“Sure sweetie, as long as you drop Mike off at the Byers’.” She said much to Nancy's annoyance.
“Mike!” She shouted. Her brother bounded down the stairs with a bag packed for a sleep over. Without a word to him, she thanked her mom and the two Wheeler teens made their way out of the house.
Mike barely waved goodbye to Ted, but Nancy made sure to give him a hug.
“Suck up.” Mike mumbled. Nancy scowled and rolled her eyes before she climbed into the driver’s seat and took off toward the Byers'.
They didn't speak much, at one point the two were close but as they got older, they grew apart and have yet to reconnect, even with the Upside Down.
“Have fun with Will.” Nancy said with a small smile as they pulled up.
“Thanks for the ride.” Mike replied as he hopped out and disappeared into the house.
Nancy quickly drove to Forest Hills and to Eddie's trailer. She knocked softly, smiling when Wayne opened the door. There was a time when the old man was shocked to see her but since Spring Break, she and Eddie hung out quite a bit.
“Hey, Wayne. Is Eddie home?” She asked. Wayne grunted in affirmation and waved her in.
“Go on back.” He waved to Eddie's room. She knocked swiftly and opened the door once Eddie called her in. He sat at his desk painting Mini-figures.
“What can I do for ya big wheel?” He asked with a little bow.
“I want you to teach me to do my eyeliner like yours.” Nancy said with zero hesitation. Eddie put his brush down and turned to appraise to the girl.
“Trying to impress someone?” He asked knowingly. Nancy told him about her crush a few weeks ago and he's been relentless since.
“Can you help me or not?” Nancy huffed.
“Of course.” Eddie said as he got out his own eyeliner and a small mirror with a stand.
For the next half hour, Eddie walked Nancy through doing the thick black lines of kohl with wings going up to the end of her eyebrows.
On Eddie it looked amazing but on Nancy…it looked like a costume. With purses lips, Nancy tilted her head to and fro. A snap of his fingers and Eddie produced a dark red lip stain for Nancy to apply. That did help the overall vibe, and when she imagined the look with darker clothes, Nancy could admit she'd look hot.
But, not like herself.
“This is stupid, isn't it.” Nancy mumbled.
“A little.” Eddie admitted. “If you want Robin to like you, you should be yourself.” He advised.
“When did you get so wise?” She muttered.
“Since Steve showed up at my concert dressed like a metal-head and looked so different I didn't recognize him.” Eddie shrugged.
“He did?” She laughed.
“Yeah, I thought he didn't show up, started flirting with a guy in a sweater vest, totally my type. Steve tried to get my attention but I thought he was just another alternative guy and brushed him off. He sulked in his car for like an hr before he came back inside and told me he was him.” Eddie chuckled as he remembered.
“Huh, I guess you're right.” Nancy said and began wiping off the makeup. She redid it exactly like she normally did and smiled at her reflection.
“Think she'll like me just as I am?” Nancy asked, a bit of insecurity in her voice.
“Definitely.” Eddie promised with a smile.
