Steve smiled as Eddie’s trailer came into view; she stood outside on the porch, bouncing on the balls of her feet, yet the woman still startled when Steve pulled in.
She looked good, in a low cut long sleeve shirt, topped with her leather jacket and vest combo, mini skirt, and black combat boots. The bisexual flag was pinned to her chest and painted on her eyelids, white liner framing the chocolate orbs and her lips were blood red.
“Hey! Thanks for picking me up Stevie!” Eddie said as she slid into the back seat.
“No problem. I figured since the gay bar is more for you and Rob I might as well DD right?” Steve replied as he pulled out of the trailer park.
“My first gay mixer!” Robin squealed. Steve knew Robin wanted to go queer events but was too scared to go alone; even if he always offered to go with her. Then Steve’s car broke down and ended up at Munson’s automotives; where, Eddie fixed Steve’s cracked axle before finding herself folded into their lives, becoming their third musketeer.
“I'm so glad I could pop this cherry for you!” Eddie said with a laugh that turned to a cackle when Robin winced at the wording. Steve glanced over and appraised Robin’s outfit. Dark jeans, a baggy crop top, her red converse with the boobies drawn on them; Robin was ready to meet the love of her life.
“So, we’re meeting your partner tonight right?” Steve asked Eddie.
“Yeah, they’re going to be there.” Eddie sighed happily. “He’s planning on coming back with us if that’s okay?”
“Of course! There’s plenty of room.” Robin said. “Did you bring the stuff?”
“Here!” Eddie shoved something into the front seat. From what Steve could see it was a little pin of the lesbian flag that Robin affixed to her shirt with a smile of thanks. Another button, three times bigger than the first, was thrust into Robin’s hands and she spent the next few minutes dangerously attaching it to Steve’s vest.
“Hey, what the fuck!” He yelled when she finally let go. It had black and white stripes with a rainbow A overtop. “What is that?” Steve asked.
“Ally flag my man. So everyone knows you’re a safe person and you know you’re in a gay bar but that you aren't queer.” Eddie explained.
“Oh sweet thanks!” Steve said. He expressed to Eddie last week that he didn’t know how to explain he's straight without kind of sounding like an asshole. The silent approach would be much better in his opinion.
An hour or so later, they pulled up outside of the bar. Steve let Robin and Eddie go in ahead of him, holding the door like the gentleman he was.
The three were barely inside the door when Eddie disappeared into the crowd with a “be right back!” Thrown over her shoulder.
“Where’s she going?” Steve asked.
“She must have spotted a friend.” Robin shrugged. “She comes to this bar all the time.”
Steve nodded in understanding, he’d forgotten that detail.
By the time Robin and Steve grabbed drinks and snagged a table, Robin's awe had faded into a light wonder. Steve on the other hand was shocked to see so many people. There were men in dresses, women in suits, and…people of indeterminate gender all around.
“Hey, cutie.” A woman said to Robin. “Wanna dance?” Robin glanced at Steve who gave her a thumbs up.
“Yes!” She screeched as she jumped to her feet, clearing her throat in embarrassment. “I mean, yeah sure.” She shrugged. Luckily the woman giggled at her and offered a hand. The two disappeared onto the dance floor and Steve smiled, happy to see his best friend getting out of her shell.
Steve was on his third soda by the time Robin and Eddie wondered back. Robin was alone, but Eddie had a pretty blonde’s hand in hers.
“Guys this is Chris, my partner.” She said.
Chris waved shyly before tucking their hands into their pockets. Steve admired his outfit: an over-sized dark grey shirt tucked into light gray wash skinny jeans with light blue hightops that matched their belt. A beaded necklace with “he/they” on it rested against their collar bone.
“Cute belt.” Steve commented. Chris blushed and in a much higher voice than Steve originally expected thanked him.
Chris and Eddie slid into the booth with Eddie wrapping her arms around her partner’s shoulders.
“Sorry to be gone so long, Steve. I found Chris and then I got distracted.” Eddie apologized as she smirked; her lipstick was smeared a bit so Steve knew exactly the kind of ‘distraction’ she meant.
“It's cool. I'm glad you're having a good time.” He snorted.
The four of them talked a bit more until Eddie insisted Robin go mingle. Hesitantly, she left the booth and entered the fray.
“She'll be safe right?” Steve asked anxiously; he knew Eddie wouldn't put their friend in danger but Steve couldn't help being a bit overprotective.
“Oh yeah. Eddie and I know pretty much everyone here.” Chris reassured. His eyes widened when they saw who Robin was dancing with. “And she should not be dancing with her!”
Quick as anything, Chris flew out of the booth and pulled Robin away into the arms of a different woman.
“What's wrong with her?” Steve asked.
“Her and her boyfriend are unicorn hunters.” Eddie explained. Steve purses his lips in confusion before deciding he’d ask about that later and leaned back, letting the music wash over him.
“We'll find her a good one, don't worry.” Eddie promised.
That's a wrap on pride bingo!
