I liked to look for rainbows
whenever there was rain
And let my guilt be washed away
With earth made clean again
I need my life to be as clean
as earth right after rain.
I have to do the best I can
to live with God again.
I knew when I was baptized
my wrongs were washed away,
And I knew I was forgiven,
Unless I start to stray
It’s very hard to be as clean
as earth right after rain.
I have to be the best I can
To live with God again.
I struggled every Sunday
To feel the Spirit there
But I never felt quite worthy
To have his comfort dear
I just can’t seem to be as clean
As earth right after rain
Is this just the best I am?
I’m not quite worth heaven.
I like to jump in puddles
Whenever there is rain
And revel in the beauty
That nothing stays the same
I’ve left behind my perfect goals
And created my own plan
I will do the best I can
And love for who I am
Okay so I was thinking about it and honestly how fucking creepy is
“I belong to the church of jesus christ of latter day saints I know who I am I know gods plan I’ll follow him in faith. I believe in the savior jesus christ, I’ll honor his name, I’ll honor do what is right, I’ll follow his light, his truth I will proclaim”
Like wtf?????? This is something we all sang as children to the point where most of us probably still have it memorized. Like you know what I do fucking know who I am and it sure as hell aren’t apart of “his” truth.
You know conference is going to be good when they bring in “He Sent His Son.”
"fathers are so special, with a special kind of love" i bite my tongue and continue drawing in the church program they handed to me. my father sat a few feet away, smiling as the primary kids sang. does he know how much he terrifies me? how scared i am of him? how often his yelled words reverberate in my head? how if he knew who, no, what, i was he would hurt me? even after all these years, i cannot divorce the church from my father, the pain of that relationship from the idea of fatherhood.

from the Mormon children’s songbook
As I have loved you, Love one another. This new commandment, Love one another. By this shall men know, Ye are my disciples. If you have loved, One to another.
