Been a while, but here’s some final additions to my little Descendants redesign series. This is how I interpreted Prince Ben! 👑 I wanted him to come off friendly and approachable in his features, so more rounded shapes instead of a really chiseled guy. I just thought of him more as a laid back prince in his aesthetic, so he doesn’t even wear his royal coats. I was also mainly inspired by Raoul’s look in the Phantom of the Opera movie haha 🌹

I love the significance of Ben being the Beast’s son out of any other fairytale character because for the longest time the Beast was seen as and treated like a villain. It wasn’t until Belle gave him a chance, saw who he truly was that she realised that he was a good person. He just needed someone to believe that he could be anything but a monster.

Ben would’ve grown up hearing that story and so it makes so much sense as to why he’d be such a believer in second chances. That just because the world thinks the worst of a person that they may not truly be a bad person.

People believe that Ben is one of the most kindest and just people around but if the Isle of the Lost was created by someone who still considered the Beast a villian, Ben would have been cast out to the Isle with his father. And seen as nothing but rotten to his core.

And yeah I doubt that his mum being Belle would change that. I feel like either she’s sent with them for being an accomplice/sympathising with a monster. Or she remains in Auradon torn away from her true love and son (I can’t imagine Ben having a different mother because the Beast seems the type to mourn Belle forever, but that could also happen.)

I think Ben recognises that and thinks well if I’m not to be punished for my fathered crimes then why should anyone else be? I’m living proof that people can change and grow so I’m going to use that to save others.
