The definition of reading to most, is a task which is needed to understand words and ideas of another person.
Reading to [Name] is a way to escape from all the troubles of life. One of those troubles, as we know, is her mother. What ever made her mother like this?
She sighs, pushing her glasses up to her head. She rubs her eyes before rubbing her face. In another world, her father would have pushed her into higher education. But sadly, not this one.
She places her glasses back on the dip in her nose, picking her book back up from the grass. Her family owns acres and acres of land. That is how they are able to stay so high on the social tier of New Ninjago City. Farmers rent it, people wish to use it for parties. At certain times, the land is used for building other buildings.
[Name] only enjoys it because the forest is what she owns. It was in her father’s will. Of course, she does own some other aspects of his property. But she mostly cares about her forest. It is her safe haven.
She is not bothered here. Her mother does not dare stepping outside. And her sister, Diana, does not approach [Name] when she is outside. It is [Name]’s time.
The woman hears a snap of a branch, not taking any notice of it. Branches snap all the time in the forest. It has never bothered her before.
She flicks through the next page of her book, hearing another branch. That is…that is quite strange. Yes, the branches breaking is a regular occurrence but that does not mean that is needed regularly. The creatures of the forest know better than to step on them. Her eyebrows furrow, [Name] putting her book down. Then the reasoning is that it is not a creature from the forest. And it is another human being.
She stands up, adjusting her glasses as she looks around. The sun glares down, not unbearable but it is there. The birds are not moving above so whoever is there is not disturbing the nature.
Does she call out for someone? But what if she is hallucinating? And there is not a single person there? She will be deemed as a woman who is one with the wind.
"Is there another here?" [Name] starts, putting her hands behind her back. If there is someone, her fiddling with her fingers will make her seem weak. Though she is weak. [Name] unfortunately does not have much muscle. She cannot carry a doe. She has tried it before, she ended up falling and the mother came to assist her.
[Name] does not hear anything but the wind whistle past her and birds chirping from above.
"Have I…Am I losing the grasp of my senses?"
"Well, I hope not," [Name] lets out a scream, turning around as she sees the prince standing behind her. He smiles at her, his pupils dilating as he drops his boots next to the tree. "I am quite certain your senses would not ever betray you,"
She is right. Why on earth would she ever doubt herself? There is another person here…Wait a moment. That other person is the prince!
"Your majesty!" She gasps, reading to bow but Lloyd stops her with haste as he takes her hand. She looks down at her hand before looking up at him. She makes a face which is definitely displaying her confusion.
"Please do not bow," He whispers, pulling her up. "I did not mean to startle you. I just wished…to see you,"
Wished to see her? The future of the Kingdom of Ninjago…wished to see her?! She looks at him, her eyes raking him up and down before scanning the area. Is this some sort of amusing prank? Did her mother put him up to this? Diana, perhaps? Diana is not cruel. But she does not defend [Name] either.
"You have seen me, Your Highness," [Name] taking her hand back and placing it stiffly at her side. "Have I offended you?" A question only an imbecile will ask. Yes, she is more than aware of where she offended him. She was under the assumption that he was a servant. She called him a servant! Who on this forsaken earth does that? "I understand that question I have just asked you was completely unnecessary. I understand if you wish to behead-"
"My lady," Lloyd states softly, stepping closer. He takes a leaf from [Name]’s head, which must have fallen upon when she was reading. The woman does not flinch, allowing him to move her curls slightly before taking a step back. Lloyd is aware that it is possible that h "I do wish to do any of the sort. I did not wish to cause any disruption. Though I am aware that I am the reason for all of the disruption today,"
He is apologising…and whatever for?
"I simply just wished to sit with you,"
[Name] opens her mouth before closing it. Why?!
"My sister," She starts as she knows that her mother will come marching into her safe haven at any moment. "Is quite excellent at…sitting?" Why on earth-She must go and sit somewhere so that it is possible for her to reflect on her choices of wording.
The Prince looks at her, puzzled. Before letting out a laugh. And not the type of laugh that her mother gives her. A soft laugh. A kind one.
"I am certain she has perfected it," Lloyd smiles. "But I still wish to sit with you if that does not trouble you,"
[Name] looks away, making a face of concern. You do not deny royalty. And yet…she does not particularly wish to make him leave.
"I…I would not mind," She tells him, the prince still holding a sweet smile on his face. [Name] nods, sitting back down near the tree. She settles at the route, Lloyd swiftly setting down next to her. He leans back against a branch, closing his eyes. It is quite nice here. No responsibilities.
[Name] picks up her book, adjusting her glasses as her eyes flicker one to the blond. Effortlessly charming. As her sister is. A handsome couple, they would make. She sighs through her nose, turning to the next page. As much as [Name] enjoys fairytales as it helps her escape from this life she seems to be living, the woman is interested in agriculture. Engineering. Science as a whole. And the piece of literature she is on different types of soil.
"Could you possibly read to me?" Lloyd asks softly, opening his eyes as he turns his head over towards [Name]. His heartbeat speeds up as he looks at her. She is breath taking.
"I…This is not…" How does she say this without drawing offence to him? "What I am reading is not for the faint of heart, Your Majesty,"
Lloyd narrows his eyes at her, letting a smirk slip on his face as he folds his arms over his chest. [Name] feels her face grow warmer. Surely, it is a crime to be this beautiful?
"And what are you reveling in?" He is interested? Truly? In her efforts? In her interest? The prince?!
"I…" [Name] closes her outs, holding the cover of the book tighter. "Agricultre, Your Majesty. If you wish, I may start reading,"
"Please. Your voice is quite soothing," The same voice her mother calls irritable and grating?
"If you are certain," She whispers, looking down at the book. A good place to read aloud from…a good place to read aloud from…oh! There does not seem bad. Her eyes flicker to him once more before she begins to read off the page.
A doe wanders over, [Name] knowing exactly who that doe is. She has wrapped a soft ribbon on its ankle due to its struggle with walking. The ribbon seemed to help as a focus, allowing the young creature to step as it wished.
Lloyd blinks at it, its eyes blinking back at him before settling into his lap. [Name] laughs, still reading off the page as Lloyd pets the animal softly. He has never been this close to the deer family before. Mostly as he is a dragon and animals are scared of it. But…they do not seem to be as scared because [Name] is close.
[Name] did not expect the prince to be so soft. And Lloyd completely expected [Name] to be just as enchanting as she is.
