Rumor has it that the Purple Eye Gem still remains at the Ruins of Vivtear. A small gem the size of a robin’s egg that empowers the beholder to see great distances. Damek and Zander, like many before them, came to the ruins in search of the precious gem. Historical scrolls claim the gem glows on a new moon at the darkest of night. Perhaps this will help them locate it among the rubble.
They arrive at dusk and setup camp among the ruins. Zander spars with a fractured column while Damek peacefully watches while contemplating how the gem has avoided discovery for decades. Maybe it isn’t here and this is a waste of time. Weary after the hike, Damek sits down with his back against a pillar and continues to watch Zander. His eyelids become heavy and he drifts off to sleep.
Damek abruptly awakens, gasping. He looks around for Zander. Unable to see him, he mumbles “Zander?” It is pitch dark and only coals remain of the campfire. Damek stands and gingerly begins to move around the ruins. He passes on using a torch for fear the light would hide the gem’s glow. “Zander?” he calls again more clearly. Damek continues searching through the silence.
Miraculously, Damek sees a faint purple glow emanating from a crack in a column. He stumbles forward with excitement. “Zander! I’ve found it. Come quick!” he shouts. Damek tilts his head and peers into the crack. The crack is just large enough for him to slide his fingers in and touch the stone. His middle finger makes the first contact.
Damek’s mind bends and his eyes snap fully open. His spine arches back and his head flings backward. His mouth opens to scream but his body becomes paralyzed while his finger remains touching the gem. His eyes don’t see the stars above. His vision is replaced with a spiraling, purple cloud. He loses his grip on reality and his mind descends into the unknown, taking his body along with him.
