“...You don’t have to get that mad, do you...” I thought that my work would have been piled up a couple of stories high since I was coming back to the office after a long while after returning from a dispatch mission. Moreover, since the place I was sent to had been my hometown, Lucion, I was also reported to about everyone’s situation back there. However, in reality, it was just all a really long sermon and now I’m back here with a demonically high stack of reports which piled up over time during my absence.  “Even though it’s much manageable now ever since the Buffelt riots, if only it could become something more possible to achieve...” Compared to when the wall was destroyed and the fence broken, it’s just a small but minor damage now.

“That’s also thanks to the speech that the princess gave though.” ――She’s just a little more clumsier than the average person. My shoulders slumped just thinking about that point. Inheriting water magic passed through generations after generations, I was born into a family that continued to protect this tradition and wielded enough power to surpass the successive owners’ of this power. While I’m proud of this power of mine, I can’t say that I’m un-afraid of it. “A strong power which can kill people, huh.” I remembered being really shocked when a man had preached to me about my power like that for the first time in my life, ever, back when I was younger. After that incident, I wasn’t able to control my power that well since I was born with it and didn’t exactly know how to restrain it, much.

“I don’t want to place the blame on that person but...”

The Rochefort family had stayed on in Lucion  inheriting magic of the water attributes for generations. There’s always someone from the family standing beside the head of the   Rochefort family. I was of no exception since I was confirmed to be the next head and always had a man following after me ever since childhood. My anger only grew at the fact that all he had been doing was preach at me, back and forth, all the time. (It makes it even more annoying considering how he’s older than me...) Control over my powers was difficult as I lost mt hold over my emotions and thus, water was magically created. "Oh no!” Forget about saying anything, the floor had already been filled with water. (I do want to avoid being preached at by him too.) I immediately tried to manipulate the water so as to make it that no traces were left behind but since I wasn’t able to control it well, the floor had dented in. "...Now I’ve done it.” I looked around, alarmed, thinking that this incident would somehow be done and covered up with if I could make it seem like I’d accidentally dropped the vase and quietly started wiping it up with a rag. However, the damage only seemed to spread the more and more I tried to clean it up. “...It might actually be better to just wait for him without saying anything.“ If there was any downside to it, I’d say it was him straightening his jaw when he caught sight of me as he dished dinner out at the entrance of the living room. (Ahh...here comes the preaching again huh...) Having given up, he obediently took the stuff to the kitchen and began to help out with the cleaning. He simply stared, unexpectedly. And when I asked of him to help out, he simply turned his line of sight away, saying that it wouldn’t solve itself if nothing’s done. And such, went the preaching of “Don’t just stay there, do something about it”. (It’s actually a master-servant relationship but...) It wasn’t something I could say out loud no matter how my mouth twitched in annoyance to do so considering the present circumstances. (...While I was still developing my water magic back then, he was always there with his ice magic on hand whenever anything went wrong. I’m thankful for that.) But there weren’t any excuses now since I wasn’t a child anymore. Although it’s something unintended, it’s the seeds I’ve sown on my own. While resigning myself to listening to my long-time friend’s preaching, I silently thanked him for being my older friend, suburb at nagging.

"Haa...to think that the captain knew her from that long ago...I’m envious...but, even though the captain told me that she was a lovely person even back when she was little, I can’t really imagine that it like that...” E.G.I.S’s captain, Cosi ・A・Crowhardt ―― I, who knew that he had once been childhood friends with the third princess of this empire had asked of him to let me see an image of when the princess was still a child. He agreed to it but only with the condition that I assist him as a captain for an entire week. However, I assumed that it was as simple as it sounded and didn’t bother asking what was it that I had to do. It was supposed to be the first day of optimistic helping out but... I had unconsciously managed to finish up my duties and went to the benches in the courtyard, away from prying eyes so that no one could see the photo I finally got into my possession.  “I’m able to see the princess like this because of my hard work so overworking myself assisting the captain’s overtime isn’t all that bad.” The princess’ young but elegant figure was displayed on the full screen, smiling naturally without any restrain. However, a message came through the terminal through the bliss I was experiencing. “For crying out loudー, even though I was looking at the princess’ cute picture...eh? no way, I was seen!?”

The ones who sent the message were members of E.G.I.S, Yin and Soma. “That off-guard expression of yours……is a little creepy, you know?” “Even if you’re on a break, that pathetic expression of yours is really something unforgivable.” Harsh words like these were written. Looking around from my position, I was unable to find the two of them anywhere. I had unexpectedly found Yin looking down at me from the window of the meeting room. Soma could be seen further back behind him. "...I’ll prank you.” I used my finger to direct the wind, sending a guest toward’s Yin’s direction. While watching his retreating form with a smile, I heard a voice I didn’t want the hear now calling me from afar. “Oh, to think that I’m found out only now...it’s not bad or anything but the story only gets longer from here on out so spare me!” Hurriedly, before I can be seen. I walked into the crowd from the courtyard, blending in with them and losing myself in it to shake off my tail. (I’m glad that I’ve familiarized myself with this place. I thought that this place was a maze back when I first came into E.G.I.S but right now, that’s just right to lose him.) Since it’s a place I’m familiar with, I headed towards the shortest route to the general’s office. (If only I can manage to escape to the princess’ office!) I finally arrived at my destination while trying my best to act as normal as I could so that I wouldn’t be noticed. It’s probably stakeout. I left my positions from the shadows and entered. as quickly as I could. "I’m sorry! Princess!!” If I had to plainly roll the situation out, I was greeted by the princess who had on a surprised expression with Jin by her side with an expression full of anger. On the other side of the desk, the captain gave a sigh with his hand on his cheek, as if he had totally given up. (The probability of me being preached on is a full 120% but...) I’ll somewhat get through it if it was only just the captain but, when Jin’s around, it isn’t funny anymore. The princess who had been standing by the bookshelf picked up something from the area near my feet. When I looked at her hand, my terminal was within her grasp. The image I was looking at was displayed across the screen once she picked it up. And the captain simply face-palmed to this in reply. “Um, princess, that’s...a picture I got from the captain― ...” He gave me a stare as if saying “Don’t get me involved in this mess if you’re just going to get yelled at anyway.” As I had expected, the princess began to relent her anger on me and the captain almost at once but since Jin got in-between us mid-way, I guess we were saved. Although it was kind of a shameful thing that we were both made to sit on the floor of the office in the end.

“I’m supposed to escort the princess and give her a lecture in the afternoon huh......” Looking at my schedule through operating the terminal on my wrist, I saw that I was supposed to teach her lessons about escorting the marshal, the security methods and about the relations within the organisation. It’s been a while since I last did this. “Hmm...considering how it’s been a while, I’d like to bring along a snack or something after all. I mean, the princess’ working hard too...” Since I had the morning off, there was still plenty of time to spare. Lying and lazing around on the sofa, I started to look for popular sweets and foods that were the recent hot topics. It was then when a message popped up. “Oh, nice timing.”

The message’s sender was also a member of E.G.I.S, a friend of mine who shares great information about delicious food, Chris= Simon・Akland. He’s a really sociable person and is an expert regarding sweets favored by women. He also catches onto information really quickly in order to increase his own popularity. Adding on, he’s also so knowledgeable about the marshal princess that he’s bitterly laughed at by the seniors. In conclusion, the perfect person to ask regarding which recent sweet the princess has taken a liking to.

“Even so, it’s unusual for me and Chris= Simon to be sharing the same shift. It would be great if Jin doesn’t complain about it later though......” In general terms, although we do often associate ourselves together with the older teams, the 2 of us are in a team and we serve as escorts as well as lecturers. In order to remain neutral and act like my usual self in front of the princess, it seemed like they’ve taken some precautions to separate me from Jin, who always riles me up, so that we wouldn’t meet each other.  　 On the contrary, I guess it’s the first time in a long while that I’m being grouped together with Chris ever since the princess became the general. (Although Jin did strongly disagree with this combination since he thought that the princess’ studies would be unable to progress what with Chris=Simon being all so lax on the princess and me, someone certified under the title of lazy.) I can easily picture the captain shrugging his shoulders at this. While in thought, Chris had sent me multiple messages. “This is long...and so, what do I do?”“ 　After briefly replying to his message and skimming through the contents, I mumbled to myself as if there was no one around. Heading towards the location, I’d finally decided where to go for that little fix.

(Foreca’s seasonal Millefeuille huh.) It seems like there was an issue seeing how it was a limited item of a popular shop which of course, brought on a queue. The sides of my lips quirked upwards when Chris informed me that getting it as “Take-out” would make the process relatively faster. “Well, he does escort and give lectures to people regardless of their gender sometimes too” After returning a message of appreciation, I passed my arms through the sleeves of my uniform, left the terminal on the low-lying table, finished up some quick preparations and left the house. Foreca’s located close to my house and it’s also on the way to the Arc. As it is a popular store with it’s information listed in media and magazines, it’s no longer a surprise that there are several lines of people queuing up everyday. Pretty long lines do form during lunch-time when girls from the escort army and the defensive forces come by to buy desserts. From within those lines, I found a familiar back facing me. (Heh, so he comes to places like this to buy stuff too huh......oh wait, that’s not right. I wonder if the excuse of going to buy a cup of tea on the way to the temple’s going to come up now.) Just as Chris’ information stated, it was way faster taking take-out and I had managed to buy it without spending too long waiting. "Oh, right.” I took out my terminal, snapped a picture of the purchased cake and sent it to Chris. A reply filled to the brim with emoticons came immediately after. Likewise, I returned a reply filled only with emoticons as I headed towards the Ark, thinking about what tea would suit the cake that I had bought.

"Convert all these documents into data format, you say...”

I sighed as the documents pilled up. Although I did understand that it was a job that had to be done, the papers that were stacked right in front of my eyes were really something of a merciless level on it’s own. “I bet that person pushed these all onto me because she didn’t want to do it...” No matter if it was under the captain’s orders or not, I couldn’t deny the feeling of the pressure the chores brought about. Neither could I leave it aside and neglect it either, though. I lifted the stack of papers closer to my abdomen so that it would be easier to hold and went back to my desk. "...It’s surprisingly heavy.” My glasses had fallen off a little due to the momentum of my movements as I shifted the heavy weight on my arms.

“Ugh......right when both my hands are being occupied......damn it.” Glancing over at the clock, I realized that the scheduled meeting I had to attend was close at hand. Both of my hand’s didn’t have the time nor freedom to return my glasses back in place but thank god that the places I have to drop these are close. I started walking as if nothing was the issue at all. (At times like this. she’d surely laugh as she fixed it back up for me...) I straightened my back as I thought of that. (What kind of non-serious thoughts am I thinking while I’m still doing my duties! No,wait. She’d laugh as if in enjoyment as she picks up my falling glasses...) With my glasses literally falling off the bridge of my nose, I rushed towards my desk trying not to think of thoughts along that line. I went out into the hallway, raising my chin so as to ensure that the glasses wouldn't fall off. Squinting through my blurry vision which was barely visible, I saw my cousin, Yin, in my direct line of sight.

(Of all people, it had to be Yin huh.) Even though he’s my cousin and we were in the same team, I can’t say that we are on good terms with each other. Thus, he was actually one of the last members I wanted to see me like this. I could even see him making fun of me right now. (What bad timing this is considering how close I am from reaching my destination...)

Even more so because it was Yin. He headed towards me as if I was some kind of enemy, as if he was a dog aiming for a prey in the intelligence agency itself. (...I have a bad feeling about this...) Predicting what he was going to do as the walked towards me was a simple feat that anyone could do even if they weren’t a Lieutenant in E.G.I.S. I certainly wasn’t mistaken at all, seeing as how the corners of his lips raised ever so slightly as he gradually approached.

I mean, even I can’t really just go out and say that! If it was me, I wouldn’t be able to learn anything from it since it was something such a terrifying experience. I’d be annoyed at how I didn’t know anything about my role and how I was being targeted, and the like. I guess that mission had only succeeded because that’s just how you are. That’s why, don’t feel so down about it anymore. You’re already working hard enough. It’s just that you’ve been cooping yourself up in the office and studying way too often nowadays. You should open up a couple of slots in your schedule. That way you can attend a couple of events or things like that, no? Though you might be feeling down about how you’re still being targeted even though you've been studying so hard. And also that you might be scoped on sight if you just go carelessly walking anywhere and the like. Everyone didn’t tell you about it because that’s what they thought. I said it last time too but me and the other members are strong! So things like the Bufflet that happened back then almost never happens at all. Rest assured?

Well…...the thing about you being targeted though…...but many things have been cleared since the raid that happened previously. I suppose it’ll be alright for the time being? Yeah. We’ve securely caught the culprits and we’ve also gotten down to the bottom of the organisation they were from.

It was also a rather large organisation so we couldn’t really keep it under the mat but we’ve marked them and are keeping an eye on them so they shouldn’t be making any moves for a long time. It was written as such in the report too, wasn’t it? That’s why you can just remain as how you normally are. Alright?

It’s blended tea made from the herbs found in Riac. I heard about it from my grandmother, it’s a recipe passed down through generations, you know?

I was really surprised about it. It was rather impudent of me but I was happy. Hm? It’s impudent, isn’t it? Because even though this position means that you’ll be in a rather dangerous position since you’d be targeted and all…...I was happy that you were standing in such a position. But, along with my happiness, I wanted to make sure by all means that you wouldn’t be in danger at all times. However, that raid happened. So in the end, you’ll still be facing dangers...and I…...regretted it since I totally couldn’t protect you at all.
