So Charles and Erik seem to represent the two opposite drives for activism.
Charles is driven by hope. Charles is hopeful of a better day where intersectionality no longer bounds society and mutants and humans can live in harmony. Although we might not all admit it Charles upbringing probably had a lot to do with his ability to sustain hope. Although his family may not have been accepting he had the privilege of being able to hide his mutation, and the privilege of knowing he wasn’t alone (Raven).
Erik is driven by anger. Erik has had all hope taken from him and therefore see’s no possible positive outcome of the human-mutant alliance. Erik was forced to deal with great pain as a young child and obviously this made him angry.
Both men fight for the same ultimate goal (harmony for mutants). They just have different ways of doing so although both are valid. Both examples of hope and despair is exaggerated in this instance. And in their alliance they have achieved more than on their own. Activism isn't driven by one thing, it takes a mixture of hope for a better future and anger over the past that was given in order to drive change.
So whether, you’re a Charles, or an Erik. Find your balance. Calm your mind. and keep pushing for change.
