y’all need to learn the difference between problematic and flawed
Harry Potter
Problematic: Snape (chose to be a death eater for years and only quit when Lily died)
Flawed: Sirius Black (mean to Kreacher, makes impulse decisions that result in high risk to himself or those near him)
Hunger Games
Problematic: President Coin (wants to do another Games with the Capitol kids? Wtf?)
Flawed: Katniss (puts her emotional needs above Peeta’s and deceives/uses him during and after the games)
ACOTAR
Problematic: Tamlin (locks Feyre in the house, ignores her mental wellbeing, hurts her and blames her for it)
Flawed: Rhysand (reacts to things in anger, deceptive, makes moral trades for the greater good)
Star Wars
Problematic: Kylo Ren (disclaimer, I love him anyway, but he kills a bunch of people, doesn’t care that the fleet is being destroyed, has beautiful hair - okay wait that’s not a flaw but you get it, also might change in TRoS if we get that bendemption!!)
Flawed: Han Solo (selfish as hell, apparently abandons his kid to be raised by Luke/see above)
Every real person has flaws, and good characters should have flaws! It’s making mistakes and not learning from them where it gets problematic. Abuse is problematic. Bad behavior and no desire to change it or apologize or make amends is problematic. Choosing to do the wrong thing with no remorse, accepted consequences, or redemption is problematic.
