what are some tips you have for an incoming college freshman based off of ur experience so far?
Things may get really tough, but don’t give up.
It’s okay not to have a set group of friends. + Nobody will judge you if you ever eat or sit alone.
Learn to let people go. Sometimes we have different priorities. If something is holding you back, move on.
Don’t rush into relationships. Never let anyone pressure you into anything.
Some people can tear you to pieces. Some can make you bloom in ways never imagined. Surround yourself with those who make you do better.
Attend lectures. Not only are they money you gave away, but opportunities to actually grasp the material and interact with the content.
Don’t expect to have everything given to you. You do well by having initiative. Look for yourself.
Move on your own. Don’t depend on other people. Also, do what you know helps you learn better.
Keep a planner, use sticky notes, apps, etc. Actually use them.
Develop and shape your organization system. Only you know what works for you and why.
Class/assignments groups ≠ friend groups. Know how you’ll do better. Don’t feel bad for trying to stay alive and sane.
Help people and don’t expect anything back. It will come as a blessing when you least expect it.
If the professor assigns a lot of seemingly meaningless homework, do it all. But don’t stress for it. Just show them that you care about their subject. This may help you if you are struggling or even failing.
The last one was the ‘non-personal’ way. If you are up to socializing, be friendly with the professors. Make friends, do your thing.
Be nice to those serving you. Never look down on the cleaning staff or the people in cafeterias, etc. A ‘good morning’ or a small smile is better than ignoring actual people with actual feelings, even if it’s their job.
Save money; every penny counts (+ don’t only eat fast food).
Don’t forget about the things you love. Not everything is about studying and not sleeping (try to have a healthy sleep schedule, btw). Keep watching your shows or practicing your sports, playing music, drawing, writing, etc. Just don’t let it get in your way.
Try not to cram everything at the last minute. Study properly since day one to keep things kinda calm.
Try to keep your room, laundry, desk, bed, stationery, everything clean and nice.
Only skip classes when absolutely necessary or unavoidable. Especially if you never get around to catching up with the topics. (But taking care of your mental health is necessary, ok?)
Don’t skip classes just to be with friends. It’s absolutely heartbreaking to recognize a exam question as a topic seen that time you were messing around and you have no idea how to answer.
This is a hard one for me, actually: I enjoy so much being with my friends that I decide to stay with them just a little longer. But I have to remind myself that they have free time in that moment so I’m probably the only one skipping. Only I get affected by it.
I wanted to reply with like five things, but I have a lot of lessons from my freshman year at college. However, I did not want to make this a long post. Feel free to ask me anything, though!
