Prompt #173: "Help" by icemoonbankai

Rainbow Dash was scared as she trotted through the heavy rain.

"Stupid Pinkie, why'd ya have to do this to me! I better hurry before something really bad happens." she whimpered to herself.

A guttural noise sounded from behind. She flipped her drenched mane behind her ears and quickened her pace. Seeing the cottage, she burst into a full gallop, checking over her shoulder every once in a while.

"Shy, you have to help me! I'm so scared!" she cried as she burst through the door.

A yellow blur leapt past her head and shot to the ceiling.

"W-what is it? A dragon? Discord? Your shadow?" Fluttershy looked around nervously.

"Worse! Pinkie made me foalsit Pound Cake!" tears were in the blue pony's eyes.

"That's it?" Fluttershy stifled a giggle as she removed herself from the chandelier. She trotted over to the wet bundle and placed him in front of the fireplace to dry him off.

"Rainbow! You just let him get soaked?" Fluttershy scolded as she unwrapped the colt.

"What else was I supposed to do? I-I'm scared."

"The most awesome pony around, my best friend, and the bravest mare I know is scared of a foal?" she smiled and gave her friend a small hug, before returning to tend to Pound.

"Well n-no, it's just that..." the faster pegasus looked at the ground sheepishly.

"Just what?" the butter-pelted mare paused in changing the small colt.

"H-he's so small. What if I break him, or something?"

"You're not going to break him! He may be a foal, but he's not made out of glass! If Pinkie didn't hurt him, you won't either!" a small reassuring smile graced her lips.

"I think we both know that I may be graceful with my wings, but I suck at being tender with my hooves." Dash said apologetically.

"And I think we both know that's not true." Shy replied, making Dash blush.

"That's different!", she blubbered.

"No it's not. Now come here and let me show you how to take care of a pegasus foal."

BSB Comments:

Dash's one weakness: foals. This was fun, and I liked that Rainbow Dash immediately went to Fluttershy's for help when she was saddled with Pound Cake. Also, the role reversal of Fluttershy being the consoling one and Rainbow Dash being afraid was lovely. Well done!

Prompt #173: “Last Resort” by Tlantzn

"Are you really, really quite sure of this?"

Rarity stood underneath a hovering Rainbow Dash, her head cricked upward to peer at her, neck moving rhythmically to follow the Pegasus's rapid bobbing motion.  

It was not quite comfortable at all!  She stopped and shook her head rapidly as if confused, trying to clear an unsettling dizzy feeling.  

Rainbow Dash twirled over her in a lazy crosseyed summersault to land behind the white pony.  To her eyes, Rarity was not looking her absolute best.  Quite to the contrary, she seemed nervous and almost haggard - her mane was ruffled and was that really some sort of object stuck in it and she seemed so nervous she was too absolutely besides herself to even notice.  

"C'MON.  It'll be absolutely finee.  Why'd you come're anyway, if you have all these.. reservations, hmmmmm?"

With that, Rainbow Dash snapped out a forelimb to gently poke the rear of the pony in front of her as a sort of punctuation.  Rarity snorted, jumping forward, her eyes blinking shut and open, barely recovering before toppling.  The pegasus watched, bemused, while Rarity slowly recovered her composure - and voice, and managed to locate her conversational partner.    

She sounded rather disgruntled.  

"REALLY!"  

But with such a bright, eager smile of anticipation on Rainbow Dash's face, it was quite impossible to resent her in the slightest.  Rarity pawed the ground herself.  

"I wouldn't ask this of you, but Apple Bloom and Scootaloo are soooo nasty and ewwww looking with that awful pox and everypony else is busy and I really must have this dress done for Fancy Pants and she's My Responsibility so I can't just turn her out because she does need someone watching over her and-"

Her train of thought was rudely interrupted by a hoof planted in her mouth.  

Ponies that move so fast you can't see them coming should have better manners.

"Pshaw.  It'll be fine.  Just an hour or two, and you'll have her right back.  It'll be fun!"

Rarity's look in response conveyed more than some small measure of doubt, but circumstances were circumstances, and with a loud and clear instruction to on no circumstances whatsoever let the filly touch any candy, she trotted off to think of lace and satin and finishing touches and other things that dressmaking ponies were of a mind to consider.  

Nearby, a smaller pony was staring downcast at the ground.  "But I'm boreeeed and when are my friends going to get betterrrrr so we can PLAY again and I'm HUNGRY!"  

Even Rainbow Dash was taken aback by the torrent of words.  But then she stopped as if something had just clicked in her mind and angled in to get a closer look.  

"Sweetie, you got somethin' else on your mind.  Something wrong?"

"Well, teacher said I haven't been behaving too well.."

Rainbow Dash seemed almost taken aback and retorted loudly and sharply.

"She can just say that?!  Hah.  No she can't.  No pony under my care is ever gonna take that from anypony.  I bet you're behavin' jus' fine."  She bopped noses hard with the smaller pony, then wrapped a wing around her.

Sweetie Belle looked up.  "But looks disappointed and then.. then she gets so stern and this stare -"

Rainbow Dash let go of the smaller pony and gave her a knowing look.  "Listen, I'ma tell you what to do.  Ya can't let anypony boss ya around.  She gets loud an' stern?  Ya get louder and sterner.  S'just like singin', but different!  Here, I'll show ya." 

Sweetie Belle's eyes brimmed.  "You.. you will?" 

"Yep!  An' you were hungry?  I've got just the pail'o this sweet, sweet fizzy stuff Pinkie made.. ya drink it when ya wanna race but it makes yer heart beat like badadadadadadadada and it's AWESOME." 

The little white pony's answering squeal was so loud it carried all across Ponyville to Rarity, just in time for that older pony to realize she had made a Big Mistake.  

And thus did Sweetie Belle have the time of her life, and thus Rainbow Dash was never allowed to sit any foal ever again.

Heh. Rainbow Dash shouldn't be let around impressionable young fillies. It makes me wonder just what Sweetie Belle was up to that made Cheerilee give her a stern stare, but I'm sure that the next day in class was an utter disaster. At least Rarity learned her lesson, as well as the rest of Ponyville it seems. Good job today!
