New classes in a new place you were unfamiliar with wasn’t really your thing, but your parents bugged you to get out and study abroad. Maybe they just didn’t want you around for another 4 years. You couldn’t complain, having a nice little beach side, shack house for the next few years might be the thing you need. But just you and your Pokémon hanging out together for the entirety of being in Alola? You could use some human friends as well. You guess it won’t be too hard making friends here. Everyone seems really nice and welcoming. Especially the Pokémon; after getting off the plane you were welcomed by a stranger’s Rockruff. Quite the cheery little guys he was.
You were out walking around after your classes, warm sun beaming on your face. The clear blue sky was enough to cool you down until gentle sigh of the wind caressed you. It almost made you drowsy how perfect the weather was. You could just sleep on the grass for 1,000 years with how the weather was treating you. Then the sandwich in your hand felt a lot lighter. You realized it was a Litten who stole it!
“Kitty! That wasn’t very nice!” Litten jolted off into the bushes. Without a second thought you bolted into the foliage after Litten, and your sandwich. Your eyes made sure to lock onto them as they ran. You kept up a good pace until Litten took a sharp right turn.
Before you could even process the turn, your head crashed into... a tree? A tree that yelped like a little Rockruff, “Hey! Watch it girlie!” Feeling your bruise before focusing on what you just ran into. Some guy with messy white hair, black under cut, and looks about the same age as you.
“Sorry... I didn’t mean to.” You responded softly. “I was just chasing after that –” speak of the devil; rustling came from the direction Litten ran off into. First ears, then a cute fuzzy face emerged. “Litten.” Intended to not scare it off again (despite you fucking police chasing lil bro into the forest), you sat cross legged to make yourself seem small. “Come one little guy – Give me my sandwich...”
While you were trying to befriend Litten, the dude scoffed; his attention grabbed by a little Wimpod who tugged at his sock. “Hey little guy.” He picked up the little guy and patted him. Ignoring him, you made sure to not make any sudden movements and... Crap! Litten turned around and whipped their tail at you before they disappeared into the bushes.
“Shit.” You turn to the dude to see how he’s getting along with his Pokémon. “What are you doing out here?”
“Just out here with my Pokémon. Why does it matter to you?” He lifted the Wimpod away from you.
“Hey man, I’m not trying to start any trouble.”
He gave you an up and down. “Right... And you’re just here stupidly chasing after a Litten...”
“What else could cause me to bump into you like that?”
“Your stupidity.”
You shot him a bothered glare.
He shot one back.
The sassy man apocalypse has arrived – and you’re so here for it.
You flashed him a smile. “I’m Y/N. I like psychic type Pokémon.” Maybe he’ll warm up to that. After all you’re not trying to make enemies your first week in Alola.
“I’m Guzma. Everyone calls me Big Boss Man Guzma.”
“I’m assuming you like bug types?”
“I love them! They’re the best. They’re just so cool and –”
Blah blah blah, proper name, place name, backstory stuff... It’s so cute seeing people talk about their favorite Pokémon and stuff. The sparkle in their eyes is always a delight.
“I have a bug type Pokémon, you wanna see?”
“I mean I guess.”
You let out your Fomantis. She comes out doing her little dance.
Recoiling his head back in cringe. “Fomantis isn’t a bug type dumb ass. Just a pure grass type. It’s just a plant pretending to look like a bug to protect itself.”
A burning feeling rose up into your cheeks as he just schooled you about bug types. Fomantis is just frolicking about. “Aw man, I didn’t know that...”
“Clearly.” He scoffed, looking away. Fomantis caught his attention with her silly dance. He crouched and slightly stretched out his hand to give her a little pat. “Though not a bug type, its pretty cool.”
The temperature in you cheeks slightly lower seeing him alter his attention to Fomantis rather than you’re embarrassing mistake.
“Wanna see a real bug type?” A smirk tugging at his lips reaching for the poke ball in his jacket.
“Is Wimpod not one?”
“Yeah but like it’s evolution.”
“Yeah sure.”
Dramatically pulling out the poke ball from his jacket and releasing his Golisopod. Golisopod automatically taking a fighting stance, showing off it’s armored body and sharp claws.
“Yo sick!” exclaiming as you look at him while extending your arm to touch its armor. “May I?”
He cocks his head in surprise. Most people would be shitting their pants right now... Especially since I am The Guzma. Is this chick high? “I mean if you want. He might bite.”
You furrowed your brows at his attempt at scaring you, but you continued anyways. Making sure to make yourself known by the Pokémon before making any contact. Litten jumped out of your arms before you inspection. Its armor was as hard as a diamond, yet not as rough as you expected. “This guy is frickn sick!” Your eyes practically glow from how cool it is seeing a beast like Golisopod up close.
“Are you 10? Just say ‘this guy's is so fucking cool.'” mocking your voice in the process.
“10 times 2. Just starting collage around here.”
“Ah not from here?”
“I'm from the Honenn region. Came here to study abroad. Mostly because my parents wanted me too.”
“Ha! My parents wanted me out too.”
“Are you studying abroad too?”
“Me? Study?” piercing laugh rumbled from his chest; causing Litten to bolt away. “Nah none of that. Been here since day one. I just...” his gaze and demeanor lowered. He contemplated sharing more, but to a stranger? Bruh what the hell boy. “I’m just out here being me. If you have a problem, I’ll crush your skull.”
“Hey whoa, chill.” you hands rose in surrender. “Not trying to start anything. I swear.”
Attempting to threaten you with his glare and Golisopod was squashed as his stomach growled like a Pyroar. Sounds like he hadn't eaten all day. He felt the empty ache in his stomach and clutched it. “Gahh...”
You cocked your head, “Need something to eat? I can get you some-” You were cut off by his piercing retort.
“I don’t need shit from you!”
“Sorry dude I didn’t mean to offend you, just trying to offer to get you something.”
Clearing his throat he lowered his voice a bit, “Whatever.” He crossed his arms pouting the other way.
Trying your best to send over a genuine smile. Maybe then he’ll think twice about beating you up. “Well – it was nice meeting you, Guzma. See ya around?” Bro who the fuck says that to a rando who just lashed out at you?! Like your mother said, ‘You have interesting taste in men.’
“Tch, whatever. Golisopod, let’s go.” When he turned his back to you, you spotted some white symbol be crossed out with a thick red X. It looked pretty sick.
“Enjoy the rest of your day – and nice jacket!” You got left on heard.
Feeling uncomfortable with the roller-coaster of emotions, you shoved your hands into your familiar pockets as you departed. First sassy, chillish guy – then crazy weirdo.
You’re not ready to let one really, really... really weird encounter ruin your time in Alola. So you went to try some local cuisine. Maybe Gardevoir, Smeargle, and Lurantis would benefit from trying some new foods as well.
[End of chapter]
Hearts, comments, and reblogs are appreciated🥹
I JUST REALIZED WHY GUZMA HAS A GOLISOPOD. Like the outside of a Golisopod is said to be as hard as diamond and it's insides are squishy and vulnerable. AND SO IS GUZMA. Whoaa crazy. Sorry I've just gotten back into watching the Sun & Moon anime since like I first watched it forever ago. Anyways, I’m lowk writing this story out my ass so let me know if you have any ideas! Next chapter coming out soon!!!
hey, remember when I thought literally no one was talking about umemiya's backstory's backstory?? yeah, well this guy @loganelfreeces just opened my eyes with the most insane analysis I've ever seen, bc these characters appear in less than two chapters and I'm not really the kind to overanalyze stuff but this made me think more than Im used to and I'm grateful for it.
seriously, if you havent read their post please go, its amazing!! what I'm about to say its practically just a response to what they were saying so I recommend reading it either wya
first off i want to start saying that i cant shake the feeling that umemiya and shitara share the same personality in the sense that they act all friendly and goofy to protect others from unnecessary trouble, like if we're talking about how umemiya acts i can tell he somehow copied or adapted himself to shitara's sense of responsability when it comes to emotional support
then there's that conversation shitara has with the other caretaker about the old furin, and i did get the feeling that shitara was talking about himself in some way, tho i wasnt sure if he had been a furin student, but just some acquaintance to the people there. him being a former student makes sense given that he knows a lot about furin insights and takes responsability on what they do around town
i can see shitara playing a major role in the future, but since the last time qe saw him was when umemiya was 14 years old, i hardly think we will see him again, OR as you pointed out, when umemiya graduates.
if im not wrong, it has been aprox five months (?) sicne sakura entered furin, so i think we're close to that
the one person i really dont think will appear again is umemiya's savior. why? because he couldn't see his face, it wasnt shown, we didnt got a name, not even a nickname, and as you were saying, he's an adult probably out of town that will never appear again
it will be one hell of a twist if the savior happens to be related to someone else, like being suo's martial artist brother or sakura's acquaintance, but i hardly believe he will appear again. yes he was influential in the story, and yes he shared with us some very important information about the old furin, but that was his role at the moment, and the story was going on about umemiya and shitara.
so, yes, shitara will probably appear again in some important scene, and no, the savior will probably not appear ever again
and IF we're talking about a third party, the other guy shitara and the savior mentioned, I hardly believe they will give us more insight on this. there's still a high chance this will get more focus in the series as the events starts to unfold in something more large. i think, if anything, nirei can crack the code of this mysterious saviors and the old furin secrets, I believe in my notebook guy!! (tho I really like how you connected the "serious/calm and goofy/loud" duo, it makes total sense)
OTHER THING THAT I REALIZED I THOUGHT YOUVE POINTED OUT BUT TURNS OUT I JUST IMAGIEND was that shitara and the other girl mention that because of all the gangs messing up the town the police had turned a blind eye to all these and left the town without doing their proper job, so that lefts us with no reliable adults available to put a stop to those crimes. there's no teachers in furin even tho its a school. the townsfolk rely on the furin boys. there's hardly any picture of parents anywhere, not even in conversations. shitara is the first adult to be relied on by someone in the entire series, and i think that alone says a lot about the guy and the future of the series in general.
I BELEIVE IN NII-SENSEI TO GIVE US AN ASNWER TO ALL THESE, THEY'RE AMAZING ON WHAT THEIR DOING AND I CANT WAIT HOW ALL THESE TURNS OUT!!
"Blah blah blah proper name, police name, backstory stuff~" (From The Lego Movie lol)
SDV Tumblr made me fall head over heels for this man, like, no joke. Elliott artists draw him so beautifully and the headcanons about him are so <333 ough... I grew to love him so much, he is so babygirl.
When I first started playing, I wasn't really interested in him that much bc I don't see him as often and his heart events never really lured me in. I mainly got into him because of the Elliott lovers, and now I'm an Elliott lover as well lol.
Elliott my beloved... <3
IT'S WIZARD TIME MOTHER████ERS!!! No time to explain! I cast kooky crazy wizard dog!
Okay maybe there's some time to explain. Everyone, say hello to Doggone. My idea for Fool's Fate's chapter 5 boss and my submission into @grimmdeltarune's Chaos Clash Tourney! Remember when I said I was gonna go with a busted police radio? Bam! I lied! Crazy wizard dog be upon ye!
Okay but what's their origins? I need to explain where I got the name dog gone it! (Hehe, get it? That's where their name's from.) As for item, Doggone is a newspaper clipping about Dess's disappearance that's in an evidence folder at the Police Station. It's staff is even a branch with Dess's fur found on it that was also in the evidence locker.
"Lorrie, how did you get crazy wizard from that? " I hear some of you reasonably ask. All in due time, my little pupils, for now we must get onto text quirks! For Doggone's text, a lot of it their text gets blacked out and censored. Not all of it, mostly proper nouns like names or places, but also just random nouns that seem randomly censored. The exception being anything or anyone mentioned in the news paper clipping Doggone is in the Light World. I can show some examples under the cut with their backstory and dialogue. The only times Doggone can ONLY use words specifically from that clipping are when it's trying to talk about stuff the man doesn't want revealed.
For Doggone's soul mode, it uses the purple soul mode, like Bitsy. Just Doggone's purple soul mode attacks are lines of text rather than spider webs. Also unrelated to the soul mode but another fun fact about them before I get into backstory and stuff. Doggone is flat like paper. Literal Flat Stanley/Paper Mario physics. They seem like they might have mass, but when viewed completely from the side, they're just a line.
Backstory and Dialogue under the cut (Fair warning, it got really, REALLY long...)
Dogson D. Gonit. Investigative Journalist and reporter for the news station in the Police Station Dark World. Never an actual detective or private investigator, those sorta roles were filled by Captain Chariot and the guard, but Dogson always did his best to sniff out the best story. A true sleuthing pup, Dogson's keen nose and sense for a good scoop was something which found him a lot of success in his career, especially when it came to reporting on potential new cases for Chariot's guard.
That was until one day a particular Lightner went missing in the Light World.
Missing person's cases were some what rare in the Station Dark World, and Hometown in general. Most the time it was just some kid who pretended to run away or got a little lost playing in the woods and many of them were solved before a reporter like Dogson got to report on it at all. More often then not, the missing cases Dogson reported on where lost pets or items. But the case of Dess Holiday was a special one. It was something the entire station seemed to be talking about, and one that went unsolved long enough that Dogson got to report on it, and not just in the missing section of the paper.
"LOCAL GIRL GOES MISSING IN WOODS. On September 15th, 212X, local girl December "Dess" Holiday was reported missing. She was last seen playing in the woods with her younger sister and two neighboring kids. After loosing track of her, Asriel Dreemurr, one of Dess's neighbors contacted local police, reporting to Chief Asgore and Deputy Undyne that Dess and Kris, Asriel's younger sibling, had gone into the bunker in the forest and wouldn't respond when Asriel and Noelle Holiday, Dess's younger sister, called for them, after which Asriel went for help. After managing to rescue Kris from the bunker, the police weren't able to locate Dess Holiday and even though questioned about what happened, Kris was reportedly too shaken to answer. Mayor Carol Holiday, Hometown mayor and Dess's mother, has ordered a town wide search and advised citizens to stay away from the bunker. Are the towering trees surrounding our sweet little town really as safe as we thought? More on pg 12."
The case of the missing Holiday was a big one in the Station Dark World, with a lot of pressure on both Lightners and Darkners to perform and find her. This was something Dogson was well aware of, and he had every intention to report on every new bit of information that came the station's way. Yet it seemed by the time Dogson was ready to print his next update on the case, the buzz around it had already died down. Captain Chariot refusing to let Dogson release the story because of "bad PR", instead focusing on a story from one of Dogson's colleagues about the new police chief in the Light World. According to the Captain, anything new about this case had to go under the radar and eventually it seemed like the case was dropped all together, the trail going icy cold.
Dogson wasn't so content to just drop a scoop as big as this though, and so after putting on his jacket and hat and kissing his wife goodbye, the journalist set out into the depths of the Paper Trail Forest to find the Evidence Locker in hopes to find something to get Captain Chariot to reopen the case.
Ms. Gonit: And I'm afraid that's the last anyone's heard of him.
I've tried to convince some of the guard to go looking for him myself, but it seems none of them want to risk it...
Lightners, you seem strong, aren't you?
If you decide to venture towards the Paper Trail Forest, would you be willing to look for my dear Dogson for me?
These past few years have been tough, and even if the worst I fear has come true...
Some closure at least would be nice.
Accept ❤ Decline
Accept ❤
Oh? You will look?
Oh, thank you so much, Lightners. You can't imagine how much this means to me.
Here, ever since that KNIGHT came around, I never know what Captain Chariot has decided to lock down.
If you ever find any trouble making your way into the forest, take this.
*You got the PIN KEY.
It may not work on every lock, but I hope it can at least aid you somewhat.
No one really knows what happened to Dogson D. Gonit out in those woods. The only thing his wife and family knew was that he never came back. In all honestly, Ms. Gonit expected her dear husband to be gone forever. In a way... he was.
Dogson got lost looking through the Paper Trail Forest and couldn't find his way back. He wandered and wandered for what felt like days looking for the Evidence Locker, or at the least the exit, yet it seemed like he was just chasing his own tail. Just going in endless circles and circles, every corner he turned looked like the last, the pages and pages of leaves all blending together as one. It was maddening.
It wasn't until all hope seemed lost when Dogson found somebody. Or rather, was found BY somebody. A strange someone, a man who offered a helping hand. A man who led Dogson to the Truth. Not the truth about the case of the missing Holiday as the straggled reporter might have hoped when he agreed to follow the man out of desperation, but a greater Truth. A Truth which showed him just how trapped he was... A Truth... which broke Dogson freed Doggone from the burdens of it's mind.
Dogson was gone. A life forgotten along with the name. Now there was only Doggone. A crazy old Darkner believing themself to be a powerful wizard, living out in the woods and on an eternal quest to find the Evidence Locker the Chamber of Truth. Doggone may not know why it wants to get into the Chamber of Truth, they just knows they have to find it. Inside such an illusive and mysterious trove of treasure and truth there must be something truly great and powerful, after all. Some kind of artifact befitting a great and powerful wizard like Doggone.
And Doggone seemed to find the perfect opportunity to get to the Chamber of Truth when it saw three young Lightner heroes enter it's domain...
*Doggone jumps down from the trees and in front of the party*

CK: WELP. GUESS WE'LL HAVE TO TRY AND FIND OUR OWN WAY...

I had a lot of fun coming up with Doggone, especially since I was on call with friends and we kept referencing wizard memes. Originally, I just had the idea of a journalist who got lost investigating the story of a missing girl (cough cough, Dess, cough cough), but I worried that would step on Detective Noir's territory too much. I think with the wizard aspect, I no longer have to worry about that.
Doggone and Noir are still rivals though. Even if Doggone has completely lost its marbles and will try to interview people by asking them to step into its office, that is really just a mossy clearing with a stump in the woods or a bus stop.
Hey everyone and welcome to the fourth and final week of Mini Mahou March! You can find the main post for the event here X.
The Prompt for the week of March 22nd-28th is...
Pirate themed Phantom Thief/Kaitou!
The sub-genre of magical girls that needs more love, the phantom thief has a long history of non-magical girl entries such as Lupin and Magic Kaitou. MGs include Shadow Lady, Saint Tail, Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne, and the recent Phantomirage.
Magical girl kaitou often steal with good purpose- returning stolen goods like Saint Tail, or exorcising demons like Jeanne. With a much smaller pool of inspiration to draw from, there is very little consistency in designs for these characters, although they always have a way to make a quick escape. They often leave behind a calling card, sometimes as a form of cheeky flirting with their officer rival.
Pirates are sea-faring thieves with just a good aesthetic. You know. Captain Hook. The Jolly Roger. Patchy from Spongebob.
I’m only looking for a visual character design, something as simple as a single fullish-body picture, but you are more than welcome to go as wild as you want with trinkets, backstory, information, alt outfits, all that good stuff. Also I say girl but girl boy nb other as long as it’s a magical humanoid gender be damned, thumbs up. (Also nothing 18+ please. Your characters can be, just not your art for this)
Make your post and tag me before end of day March 28th (11.59EST) and I will be re-blogging participants here next Sunday/early Monday, with everything tagged Mini Mahou March.
Saint Tail uses stage magic to distract while stealing stolen goods and returning them to their proper owner while leaving calling cards for her crush who is the detective trying to catch her.
Shadow Lady uses a magic eye shadow pallet to transform into different forms depending on the color, and steals, well, for fun until the plot happens, while the local cop is in love with her thief form.
Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne transforms with assistance from her mascot to remove demons from pieces of art which makes the art disappears, and her rival is transformed boy who wants to stop her (and her best friend is the obligatory cop)
D.N.Angel is the long accept magical boy, and he transforms into his older alter ego to steal magical artifacts made by the ancestor of the obligatory cop who has his own magical alter ego and there’s a love square
Phantomirage has girls transform to steal evil jewels from the hearts of people transformed by (extra)evil magic cops, and the head of the magic cops eventually becomes a magical cop
Tuxedo Mask just steals jewels because he’s looking for the physicals manifestation of his gf’s soul to get his memories back, and Phantom Ace was an idol who also stole people’s energy because he was a villain but look I gotta post what we have and it’s not a lot okay?
So uh. Complicated romances & police enemies with possible overlap in those categories, transformations range from ‘new dress’ to ‘new body’, stealing is good sometimes. It’s not my fault there aren’t more Kaitou MGs we deserve this sub-genre c’mon Toei. Pierrot? Anyway there’s always non magical girl kaitou like Skye from Harvest Moon or whatever is happening in Persona 5. Masks are generally not a magical girl thing beyond proto-senshi and a couple of weirder male-target series, but it is a thief thing so your call.
Is Captain Grace from Magical Girl Raising Project really the only magical girl pirate? We have Multiple cowboy/wild west gunslinger magical girls and somehow just Grace? Symphogear girls have some pirate outfit variants, and the Madoka gang had pirate alts in one of their mobile games back when, and for a series with Sailor in the name, you’d think there be more than one furoku of the senshi as ‘pirates’
Why yes I did just combine two topics magical girls are lacking and say go at it but jokes on ya’ll this was the first prompt I came up with. Both groups steal and look good doing it what more do you want a word list?
Yeah okay. Pirate Words:
ship
peg leg
bandana
hook hand
parrot
buccaneer
mermaid
sails
ropes
eyepatch
tricorne
skull & crossbones
saber
canon
pistol
gold & doubloons
treasure & chests
gems
flag
ocean
anchor
I have no prompts in me tonight. But I believe in you. (magical girl who scatters fake gold as a distraction while she robs rich people who underpay their workers and robin hoods the goods to said employees)
You are obligated to play fast and loose with the concept, and I know you'll be creative, so I hope you have a fun time!
Our Life: Cast my home aside, lead me into the skies....
(A/N: Still working on if I’m going to have Eve have a custom backstory different from the background given in game, buuut, this can be a AU thing if I go with base game MC for Eve’s background! Our Life and all characters besides Eve belong to @gb-patch !)
(P.S. Since I am able to insert myself so much into the MC of OL, for this Eve has... Part of my own background, not fully cause I’ve not done what she did here, but still. Be warned Eve’s not coming from a nice household prior to being adopted by Pamela and Noelani. Also, this is sort of my take on the first scene in OL with Eve having a custom background, also to help me figure out how to write Eve with that context.)
-----------------------------------------
Aching, the little eight year old felt every limb and bone of hers aching as she trekked further into the town she found.
Her backpack was lighter than when she started her journey, snacks, drink and food she packed having been long since eaten or drank by her, that didn’t mean she didn’t get more as she....
Ran, she supposed.
Much to her growing guilt she had taken water bottles and any food she could find from any table or picnic blanket she came across, either packing it away in her backpack or outright eating or drinking it due to how hungry she was.
She was certain she was dirty as heck(even if she washed herself in ponds or the rain as best she could) and she could feel her ribs at this point if she pushed her fingers against her skin enough, hair much longer than she liked, but she still refused to turn back.
She still remembered that night that made her pack her backpack and run. Shouting, screaming, a BAM, another hole in the walls, nothing she did could ever-
And no one cared she was all alone-
She sniffled, forcing the thought out of her mind. She honestly didn’t know where she was at this point, she just picked a direction and ran that way.
All she really knew was it had been winter when she set out, or near it, then it became spring and now was summer, the heat in the air told her that much.
Anything else other than that she didn’t know.
Huffing a puff of air, she pulled her brush out of her pocket and brushed her hair, a habit she still had and when she looked in the reflection of a puddle, she was a bit proud she looked really decent despite not having had a proper home for what was likely months.
Sure she was a touch messy, but no one would take a look at her and immediately think she had run away from her old home.
She continued walking, looking for an alcove or awning or something to rest under for the night, only to pause as she saw a person sitting on the curb in front of a house. He was sitting with his head in his hands, his whole body slumped over.
She tilted her head, confused a bit as why was an adult was sitting on the curb, did someone kick him out of his house?
She noted a… Tattoo, she thinks that was the term, on the arm that was facing her, pitch black against his tan skin, it looked like a sea creature, but she didn’t know what it was. His pale blond hair was pulled into a ponytail it seemed, like she tended to have her hair now that it grew out so much.
Though he wasn’t really in her way, she could walk around him if needed, she felt…. Nervous. Yeah, that was the term she was pretty sure, so she wanted to sneak around him unseen, but how….
She felt her gut lurch when he suddenly shifted and there was a brief moment where their eyes met before she quickly averted her gaze to look at a bird that was hovering nearby.
“Hey!” Drat, he noticed her and there was no mistaking her startled jump showed she heard him.
The bird landed on a nearby gatepost, its black feathers ruffling gently in the breeze. She couldn’t keep her gaze on it when the man got up and began making his way to her, making her eye him warily.
She had run from more than a few police people who tried to approach her, fearing they were going to make her go back and was more than ready to run if needed, he didn’t look like a policeman though.
Since he didn't seem to be like any of those sternfaced police people, she offered a polite smile and he grinned back at her.
“Do you live around here?” He asked once he was in front of her, kneeling to be on even eyelevel with her. “What’s your name?”
She felt a spike of panic shoot through her system at his questions. The first one was easy to answer, as from what she could tell unless she turned around she’d meet the ocean like she did earlier(and found a fair amount of shells and sea stuff she couldn’t help but put in one of her backpacks pockets), and frankly she was done walking so much, so, she could stay here.
As for her name…. That damned name….. She had heard more than once that with a name as unique as her birth name, it would never be hard finding her, same went for her last name.
She didn’t WANT to be found though. She didn’t want to go back.
She looked the mystery man up and down as she tried to think of an answer to give him, taking in his tanned skin and relaxed appearance. Well, only partially relaxed. At least his clothes were relaxed; the way he was acting certainly wasn’t.
He had sharks on his shorts and that sea creature tattoo, and she wondered if he was obsessed with the ocean or something.
While she made her assessment, he looked at her expectantly, waiting for an answer to his questions.
“...Yeah, I live around here.” She answered after a moment, trying to think of any name to give him other than her birthname, running through the very few stories she heard growing up.
Hermione? No, she didn’t know how to spell that. Alice? No…. Belle? Not that one either.
“And my name is, Eve.” She decided to go with the name she remembered from that book her birth parents got from the religion they were a part of. It was three letters, and simple enough she knew how to spell it and there was no difficulty like with her birthname in how it was said or spelled.
“Great! Nice to meet you, Eve.” He gave her a broad smile, relief settling on his features. He then reached into a pocket and pulled out a twenty dollar bill, it crinkled in his hand as he held it up to her.
She furrowed her brow at him in confusion, looking between him and the money with the pure confusion only a child could have.
“Well… Could you do me a favor?” He asked, but then realized he should probably explain better than that and rushed to add. “Nothing bad! Sorry, I should have…. Let me start over.”
He cleared his throat, straightening his back a bit before explaining. “I have a son-his name is Cove-who’s just about your age.”
She tilted her head, Cove…. That was not a name she heard before, it sounded… Nice. She never met anyone with that name.
“We moved in across the street. See?” He pointed across the street to the house opposite the one they were standing in front of.
She nodded, looking back to him with confusion as he continued.
“I don’t know where your parents are, I don’t think I’ve met them, but you look around his age, so…” He shook the twenty dollar bill to bring it back to her attention, a hopeful smile tilting his lips at the corners. “Can you try to be friends with the boy? Just give it a chance and you can keep this! He’s a good kid. You’ll like him.”
He… Was wanting to pay her to be friends with his son?
“But you’ve gotta keep it a secret, too, okay?” He winced. “It wouldn’t be friendly to say his dad sent you.”
She blinked, feeling a bit sorry for the boy she hadn’t even met yet. This was not the normal way kids made friends, her limited exposure to anyone outside of the Hall didn’t stop her from knowing that.
“What’d’ya say? Want to make a deal?” He asked, watching her as she thought about it.
She was conflicted, sure she could likely use that money to get better clothes, food even than what she was now used to dealing with, but……
….She wanted to meet this Cove without the lure of money, and she knew she’d get looks if she wandered into a store with a twenty dollar bill without any parent with her.
So, she shook her head no. “No, I don’t want to be paid for that.” She then raised her hands in a placating way as she saw him deflate a bit. “But…. I do want to meet Cove, he sounds nice.”
He nodded, seeing his initial strategy wasn’t going to fly and tucked the bill back in his pocket as he stood up. “Would you be more comfortable with he and I coming by for a normal visit? No money involved.”
She nodded, then paused and added. “And I can come over as well.”
She didn’t want to mention that she currently did not have a home, or parents, no, that’d… no. Just no. No risking them sending her back, no.
His smile got bigger again. His eyes crinkled at the sides. “I’ll bring him by tomorrow or you can come over. I wanted him to meet and greet with the neighbors today, but…” He hesitated before admitting. “Well, I don’t know where he’s gotten off to!”
Well, that’s… Concerning. Cove’s dad had laughed when he said that, but with the way his face looked Eve thought he actually wanted to cry instead.
“I’ll help find him.” She said without hesitation, puffing up a bit with a grin.
He seemed a bit relieved at her words. “If-If you see him, can you tell him to come on home? He’s got a pink cast and glasses, you can’t miss it.”
She nodded, this definitely was not the normal way kids made friends, but she was still going to help.
He smiled and reached over to pat her on the head, paused before doing so, then pulled his hand away instead.
“I’ve already got the neighbors in the house besides us checking around, such a thoughtful group, they are.” He gestured to the house they were in front of before smiling. “Now I better go look, too! Can’t put everyone else to work while I keep sitting here. I thought he might come back, and…” he shook his head. “That’s not what’s important. I have to go.” he gave her another grin. “Thanks again, Eve! So much.”
He jogged off down the street without another word, leaving Eve to think to herself on where Cove could have gone.
If he was anything like her, he likely would have gone somewhere adults wouldn’t think to look first, and while she doubted he ran away like she did, that same logic she used could help her find him.
She decided to go behind the house she was in front of, finding a series of hills with flowers stretching out before her as the sun fully descended into the horizon.
She couldn’t recognize the type of flower, especially now at this time without the sun to provide the majority of the light, though she thought they looked nice from what the moon could illuminate.
The chirping of crickets in the tall grass greeted her, a familiar sound from her traveling that eased her nerves a touch as she wandered to the top of a hill.
From the top of the hill she could see the ocean. As she walked, she listened to the crash of the waves on the shore, and the seagulls squawking as they settled down for the night as she peered around.
Idly, she remembered loving hearing stories about the merfolk and sea serpents and anything else she could imagine living far beneath the waves. Maybe now that she was near the ocean she’d get lucky enough to see one at some point.
She sighed as she came to a stop. She wasn't sure what, but something told her that she wasn't alone, so she glanced around warily, only to nearly jump when she turned to her right.
There was a boy sitting at the top of the hill she was standing on, almost completely hidden within the long grass and white flowers surrounding him.
He didn’t seem to notice her, probably just that he wasn't paying attention, his head was buried in his knees, staring ahead by himself.
She watched him for a few moments, feeling as if she found a deer in the wild, although….
‘Deer don’t have sad frowns, or green hair...’ She thought to herself, expression furrowing at the thought, She wondered what upset him to cause him to look like that….
After a few more seconds, she took a step forward, then another. And then he glanced her way, making her freeze.
His aquamarine eyes reflected the light of the moon. Eve stopped, raising a hand to acknowledge him and show him that she wasn’t scary.
Even if she likely didn’t look like a normal kid with her backpack on and likely mussed up hair.
“Heyo.” She greeted him.
With a start, he jumped to his feet, his hands balling into fists at his sides. He didn't say anything, just stared at her in a strange way.
He'd been crying. There were traces of tears on his cheeks and his knees, soaking the hem of his shorts, and his eyes were still shining with a few more.
She restrained wincing, or hugging him on reflex to sooth him. She had obviously caught him off guard.
His pink cast seemed to glow in the twilight, though when he caught her staring at it, he hid his arm behind his back.
Hmm. could this be….
“Cove?” She said his name cautiously, watching his reaction to see if she was correct.
“Ah-” She was, as his eyes widened and he studied her. “How'd you know that?”
Well, no use hiding it. She shrugged. “I met your dad.”
“Oh.” He frowned. ”So... is this your hill?” He gestured with his uninjured arm to the patch of grass surrounding them both, his face falling at the prospect. “I can leave if it is.”
She shook her head, she didn’t own it, especially since she just arrived in town today.
“Oh.” He sat back down with a thump, resting his chin on his knees again.
Curious about the strange boy with the odd dad, and not having anything else to do or wanting to leave him, she sat down on the patch of grass next to him.
The pure white flowers that covered this hill rocked back and forth gently as the stars twinkled above. The way they dotted the sky made them seem like the flowers around them too.
The silence didn’t last long, as she then asked softly. “Why are you hiding here?”
A quiet hiccup escaped Cove as soon as she asked the question. Almost like they'd never stopped, his tears started up again with a vengeance.
She almost immediately retracted her question, but Cove spoke up before she could. ”My parents… They don't want to live together with me anymore.” The tears kept coming as he continued. “My mom made my dad leave and he took me with him and now we have a house here and I want to go home!”
The outburst took her off-guard. By the time he was done, Cove's chest was heaving with exhaustion.
He sniffled and removed his glasses, wiping at his eyes with the back of his hand before he put them back on again. “...I hate this place. I want my real life back. I want my mom.”
Eve frowned, unsure how to calm him down and chewed on her cheek in thought. To an extent, she did understand where he was coming from, but….
She also wouldn’t go back if she could help it, she didn’t want to go back to that…. Hell.
“I’m sorry….” Was all she could say, and hoped it helped somewhat. He slipped his hands underneath his glasses and pressed his fingers against his eyelids. Cove wound himself up again for another long crying fit.
She felt bad for him, being forced to come here with no choice at all. She could and had lived without both of her parents for months now, but to have no choice but to be with one or the other…
The mere idea made her crumple internally and she immediately decided she hated that very thought.
She jolted when, from way off in the distance, came the shouts of several adults.
”Cove!” That was Cove’s dad, she recognized the voice.
“Kid, where did you go?” That was a woman’s voice, Eve didn’t recognize it.
Cove looked at her, tears still clinging to his cheeks. ”Don't tell them we're here!”
He sniffled. “I don't want to go back to that house. I wanna go home.”
"....It will be okay!" She found herself saying, struck by a sudden need to reassure Cove. Her expression twisted as she continued. “It... It's not gonna all be fun. But, he- isn't he your family too?”
“Yeah... I guess.” Cove nodded and she felt emboldened to continue.
“Then you can count on him when you really, really need him!” She shot him a grin, and pushed herself to her feet.
...Even if Eve could never count on her own family anymore, it didn’t mean he couldn’t count on his dad.
Slowly, Cove stood up with her, still looking a little reluctant. His dad's voice rang out again.
“Cove! Can you hear me?”
He looked toward the sound of his dad's voice, silent, then turned away while rubbing his not bandaged arm. “...Sorry. I still don't want to go.”
She frowned before whispering to him quietly so the adults didn’t hear her. “It’s alright, I get that.”
He turned back to her, regarding her with a shocked expression. ”You do?”
Before she could explain, she heard Cove's dad, even closer than before. “There you are, bud!”
The trio of adults appeared over the curve of the hill. Instantly all their eyes landed on the two of them and they rushed over.
She noted Cove’s dad immediately scooped him up in a hug, and gave a sympathetic smile as Cove immediately began to squirm and wiggle in his hold.
“Thank god Cove’s alright…” one of the two women sighed, her skin was a dark color but her gold eyes were warm as she looked at Eve. “Are you the little girl Cliff asked to help find Cove, Eve, was it?”
Eve nodded, adjusting her backpack straps and ignoring how it bit into her collar, the pad it had in it was worn down and no longer prevented it from biting into her skin.
“Your parents must be so worried with you out this late.” The other woman said, skin pale but she had brown eyes and hair like….
Eve put the image of her own mother out of her mind as she shook her head. “No, they aren’t.”
They wouldn’t be, they more often than not were more concerned with yelling at each other.
That earned her a concerned glance between the two women as the brown eyed one then asked. “Did you take a tumble down one of these hills? You’re dirty.”
Again, Eve shook her head, frowning as she muttered to herself. “I scrubbed off in a river yesterday though….”
Another concerned look was shared between the two women, then the one with gold eyes knelt down and gently asked. “Where are your parents? What street do they live on?”
Eve frowned and shook her head, speaking bluntly as only a child could. “Not here, elsewhere.” She crossed her arms in an attempt to look…. Well, like she wasn’t a runaway very far from where she started. And she was at least smart enough to not say where she came from, can’t send her back if they don’t know where to send her.
That made the women frown, another shared glance that Eve thought must be them telepathically communicating, before the other woman knelt down as well.
“Sweetie, your parents must be worried sick,” She began, brown eyes looking over Eve worriedly. “You should probably go home-”
“No!” Eve’s sudden outburst had her clamping her hands over her own mouth, eyes wide in fear as she realized how loud she was, trembling faintly and tears springing to her eyes as she took in the shocked expressions on the two women.
Shaking her head, she stepped back, only lowering her tiny hands from her mouth to say much quieter. “I’m not going back, loud, loud, yelling, holes in the, the walls, screaming-” She shut her eyes and pressed her hands against the sides of her head as she tried to force the memories out of her mind.
She flinched when one of the women placed a gentle hand on her shoulder, making her open her eyes and shake a little, only for the gold eyed woman to give her a gentle smile.
“Okay, how about you come with me, my name is Noelani, and Pamela for the time being?” She offered gently. “You can take a proper bath, we have food and a bed you can use.”
Eve blinked, rubbing the tears that accumulated in her eyes before nodding, then pausing and adding. “C...Can I see Cove if I do?”
The women blinked before giggling, Pamela nodding. “Of course you can.” She then winked. “We also have a daughter you might get along with.”
Eve nodded, then looked back over to Cove, who was still wiggling against his dad's tight hug and pushing at his arms.
She noticed Cove was looking in her direction despite the hold his father had on him and gave him a reassuring smile.
That seemed to appease Cove, though it wasn’t until his father finally let go of his squirming, scowling son and turned to the three that she was able to give Cove a thumbs up.
“Thanks very much for finding him. I really don't know this neighborhood.” He said to both Eve and the two women, looking between the women and child.
“Good thing we know this whole area so well.” Noelani nodded.
“Absolutely. We should be getting home now. It's been a long day for us all.” Cove’s dad said, resting a hand on Cove’s shoulder. “You two are gonna get her home to her parents?”
“Well….” Pamela frowned, looking to the side. “How about we explain once we put the kids to bed? I’m sure Eve and Cove are exhausted, I’ll call.”
“Huh?” Cove’s dad tilted his head before realization dawned on him. “Oh. Right then, say goodbye, Cove!”
“Bye.” Cove said, looking more towards Eve than the two women beside her, and Eve smiled, waving bye.
The two of them walked off into the darkness, heading toward the neighborhood. She watched Cove’s back until he disappeared.
“Hm, tell you what - we'll have a proper playdate tomorrow, okay?” Pamela suggested, and Eve grinned, nodding.
“Your new friend's dad wanted to bring him by to see Lizzie, but if you’re with us he can see you too.” Pamela added, watching how Eve nodded before yawning into a hand. “C’mon buckaroo, let's get you washed and then into bed.”
Eve nodded, letting the two women lead her to their house, the next events were a blur, mainly due to how tired Eve was, but she was washed(hair included and that was not as hard as she thought it would be considering she kept her hair tidy for the most part) and then put to bed in a cozy and soft bed with soft sheets.
A far cry from the ground she had been sleeping on for months prior even if it was a bit big for her, so she quickly fell asleep when she got comfortable.
…….
“Pam, I think she’s a runaway.”
“I think so too, though, it seems she’s not from here, and you saw how thin she was….”
“We should get her into a doctor, check and see if she’s had any blood work done and hopefully find her parents…..”
“But, what she said about her family…. It doesn’t sound like she ran away for no reason….”
“....If nothing comes up, if she’s somehow avoided any documentation in any system, we can….Adopt her.”
“Yeah, she seems like a sweet girl, Lizzie may like her.”
“And Cove, it seems like they got along well. And we probably couldn’t send her back without either of them arguing against it.”
“Hehe…. …..Do you think ‘Eve’ is her actual name, though, ‘Lani?”
I promised to tell my new Todoroki Enji backstory yesterday to some people so um hello
CW for abuse and alcoholism. Nothing inteense - it’s a recap
His grandparents were supporters of Destro and Meta Liberation army. Though they might have went a little bit too much into extremes, believing in inherent privilege of those who is strong aka has a strong quirk. They were very centered on that but also wanted their family to be prestigious. They believed that some familiies are better than the others. They also dreamed of having a proper heir who will continue to represent their strong family
Enji’s father was not on good terms with his parents. He was convinced that their parenting style and ideas only damaged him (obviously, they did; I am convinced those people saw nothing wrong with quirk training from young years and physical punishment). When he was younger he ran away, tried to live on his own, even got married but eventually he failed to survive in the world on his own and returned to his parents’ house
They desired to have a proper heir to the throne. So fisrt thing first they either arranged marriage for him or let him find a woman who had a fire quirk as the rest of his family (yeah they all kind of had quirk marriages but weren’t really open about it). Then they had a kid
Enji’s mother wasn’t from very prestiogious family so his grandparents kind of disrespected her but overall she believed she is in the very best place in her life. She lived a rich comfortable life and all because she had a child - it seemed like a dream and so she didn’t question anything her parents-in-law were doing... Endeavor’s father was the only one to dislike the state of affairs in this family
But his opinion didn’t really mattered - he had already failed in life and knew he could do shit without his parents’ money and influence. Nevertheless, he really tried to somehow keep Enji away from his parents’ ideas... His methods didn’t work - all he could was say “Don’t listen to them”, scream or even hit him but none of that made Enji care less about his grandparents - despite being strict, they loved him and convinced him he got to be ambitious and work hard to be the greatest
What didn’t make his father more credible was that he wasn’t really succeful himself and so everyone looked down on him (which made Enji look down on him too). He felt like a failure in his own house so he tried to spent as little time there as he could, probably even cheating on his wife
In short, Enji’s grandparents were corrupted with absolutely disgusting ideas, his father was a loser cheating on his wife and having no say in his house and his mother was going along with everything, wanting her son to be great and somehow fulfill herself through that. I would say Endeavor’s grandfather was kind of a role model for him - strong, confident and a strict head of the family - everything his father could never be. His grandfather promised him a perfect life as an heir to their prestigious household, saying that eventually they will arrange a marriage for him too and so as long as he trains hard evverything would be made for him
but
BUT
They also kind of planned to overthrow the government or something like that with the rest of Destro’s crew... Enji’s parents never knew about that, only grandparents... But their plans were revealed and they were executed on a spot or were killed while resisting their arrest. No one told Enji what exactly happened
His parents were spared and allowed to live as normal family as long as they never follow their footsteps. But that’s were difference between his Mom and Dad became obvious - she hoped that Enji will be succesful regardless of everything that happened when his father wished for... he didn’t know I guess. He had no plan for life and when his parentts died it was clear he had no idea what to do with his own child. All he knew was that his grandparents, whom Enji loved dearly, were awful people
Nor Enji, nor his mother had trust or confidence in his father and so, the man really let his self-esteem issues get into his head. He was unable to be “proper head of the family” and so he ended up lashing out on his wife and son to make them listen to him. It seemed like he hated both of them and sincerely regretted being married. Over time he spent less and less time home and when he was home he would only yell and beat them. Enji’s mother beared with all of that because she sincerely believed her role of a woman is to keep this family together. His father wasn’t that much on “keeping family together” part. Before Enji turned 10, they divorced and Enji too ack his mother’s name - Todoroki
Enji’s mother had no college degree and because of [insert reasons here] couldn’t go back to her parents. So she found a job as a waitress and rented a very small appartment in very poor neighbourhood. It was tough for her to suddenly lose everything. Enji, who previously was a “good kid”, began to act up, skipped school and was pretty shitty in general. That only added to her struggles, she picked up drinking and *drum rolls* lashed out on Enji too, though more often she would just physically punish him or verbally berate him, blaming him for her problems, saying he is “no good” and will grow up to be like his failure of a father
Most of the time she was either at work, drunk or with some man, so Enji tried to avoid being home as much as possible. He didn’t really fit in with the rest of the kid, he felt very awkward outside of “prestigious families” group, not knowing how to behave around more simple-minded people. He also might have despised them or himself. Overall, he lived the same fate any kid from that neighborhoud was living - eventually, many of them became villains, addicts or workers of low-prestige jobs. Such perspectives made Enji only more depressed
Being very prideful and very on his limit, one day he couldn’t stand his mother belitteling him and so he ran away... Actually I like making him bordeline suicidal at this point. Since his Mom was drunk all the time and used to him not being home, she took her time before starting to worry about his disappearance. When she did began to worry she didn’t knew what to do and so, she probably just was full on binge drinking
Meanwhile Enji wondered around cities, probably going to his father’s house and starring blankly into the door. Then he got wasted and was found by some dude whose job is searching for lost kids. He refused to say his name or anything about himself and since his Mom did not file a report no one knew he was missing. Maybe his school was worried though?...
All that stuff happened in April, by the way, the same month the UA Sport Festival was held. And the man who found him took him there (he had two spare tickets from his work or something). I think Enji thought about being a hero before because he was taught to admire strength but seeing them out there in living flesh really inspired him. I also think it would be hilarious if he met young All Might there
The man tried to convince Enji that he can do great stuff and running away from home is no good. He also tried to find out i he was abused at home but Enji was quiet as a fish - admitting to being hurt weak was worse than death to him
So ummm
Enji’s father came to pick him up. It turns out he saw him near the house so he got all worked up and contected da police
While they were driving to his mother’s place, Enji told his Dad about wanting to become a hero and study in UA. As true garbage parent, the latter laughed...
He also told about that idea to his mother and she was furious. Enji went away saying he will take a walk so they can have no worries. When he was back in the evening his parents were mmmhmmm [”oops, sweetheart, you usually go back from your “walks” in the morning, son”] so he decided to return in the morning lol
His Mom went to work, so he roasted his Dad... Figuratively. He reminded how he cheated with their maid and was awful in general. Hid Dad tried to have a talk with him, complimenting how mature he was for his age (never a good thing). Enji said “Well, someone has to be a head of this family” while looking down at him
His Dad also asked him why he want to be a hero
“Well... I have always admired strong people and wanted to be strong myself... And heroes, they are strong, right? They are strong and they save other people. That is noble. Wasn’t that what grandpa meant saying how we should freely use our quirks to do more good in this world?”
“Yeah, that exactly what he meant. You should... Defnitely use your quirk to do good”
Enji - shocked that his father is being supportive; Enji’s father - relieved that his son didn’t understand his grandfather’s ideas
And like that Enji began his road to being a Number One Hero of Japan... That was bumpy. He moved away from his mother, working as much as he could
His father die in some suicide car accident and so Enji inherited his house... His mother either refused to live with him there or had died already
Anyway, it was pretty lonely in such a huge house... He would wonder around aimlessly on his days off... which usually were the days he couldn’t work because he was recovering from injuries.
On one of such days he went to his granfather’s cabinet... Looking through the books, he found the one called “The genetis of quirks”. It seemed interesting
There were a lot of case studies for some reason. One described how individuals might inherit both their parents’ quirk if they had the “opposite” ones
Most intriguing
Looking around the cabinet more, he also found some weird photoalbum with lots of different people Enji had never met. One of photos was signed “Himura - family of ice quirks”
“Well, that must be fate”

I know that was a lot but believe me it could have been longer. I have maladaptive daydreaming problems
