so every protester is a looter and rioter but every white person isn't a racist?
yEAH. All of this is such bs. I’m so frustrated with the double fucking standard and I’m not a person of color by any definition. I’m actively aware of the bullshit atmosphere of privilege that I grew up in and benefited from and all the racist bullshit I’ve had to unlearn as I’ve grown up because I learned how fucking wrong it was. There is so much built on the foundation of casual racism and so many people refuse to acknowledge how they’ve benefited from it, even if they don’t know it. American culture is not far enough removed from the era of slavery and the systemic discrimination that followed that (and still continues) to claim that America is not a ‘racist culture.’ There is SO much work to be done still. And it is just so indicative that the system insists ‘not all cops are bad’ and ‘not all white people are racist’ and yet claims at the same time that all protesters are ‘violent thugs.’ White folks can be racist without knowing it and it’s our responsibility to unlearn those shitty behaviors even if we consider ourselves to be ‘anti racist’ and use our privilege to stand up and help dismantle the system that allows so many people to suffer unjustly.
