Your eyes take in everything you see, upside down!

As an image passes through the middle of the Retina (the inner eclipse with the veins), it is flipped upside down, where your Fovea (cone on right side, and point of central focus) "sees" the image upside down!

During this long, but fairly quick journey, it is flipped right side up again on the image's path through the Optic Nerve to your Visual Cortex! The cortex then sorts the information your eyes are sending and identifies it based off of memories or past experiences.

In this case, what your Visual Cortex would be identifying, is a candle!
