this is an apporopriate halloween vibe i suppose - romantic prongsfoot ficlet - firefighter james & psycho sirius :)
james sighed, pulling up his pants and snapping the suspenders over his shoulders. he reached into his locker for his jacket, slinging it over his forearm before grabbing his phone to switch off for work.
“evening, sarg.” marlene saluted him as she walked past, james shook his head with a smile, scolding her for cutting the sleeves off her shirt yet again.
“mckinnon.”
“it’s a slow day… first to fifteen in basketball?”
“you’re on.” he grinned, “give me ten to clock in.”
“gotcha.” she winked and sauntered out of the locker rooms.
right as he switched his phone on silent, a picture of sirius and himself popped up on his phone screen, of them hugging and smiling, drunk off their arses with feather boas around their necks. james smiled to himself and quickly answered the phone.
“hey, pads.” he said, sticking his phone between his ear and shoulder so he could sort out the rest of his stuff as he talked, “what’s up?”
“you’re about to get to work, right?” his voice sounded a little hoarse, like he’d been crying.
james immediately felt concerned, freezing in place to listen. he’d drop everything for his best friend (and totally not the guy he was in love with) if he so much as just asked.
“… yeah, lucky you caught me. i was about to switch my phone off to clock in, actually.”
“okay, good…” sirius swallowed, “suit up and come to my house.”
“wh- sirius, i’m working… is this an emergency?”
“yes.” sirius said again, and james dropped everything and took the phone into his hands.
“what happened, are you okay?”
“i’m fine, james… i’m wonderful.” he sighed, and he sounded so. he also sounded high as fuck, “i need you to come to mine… and perhaps you should bring an ambulance.”
“sirius?” james practically screached, rushing through the building for his desk for the emergency line, “what’s going on? what happened? are you okay?”
“reggie and i…” sirius took a moment and inhaled, “we did something bad, james.”
“b-bad?” james swallowed, punching in sirius’ address and alerting the paramedics, “siri- pads, what’s going on?”
“it’s so beautiful.” sirius actually giggled, “so bright, and warm… we did it, james. we did it.”
james felt his stomach fall out from underneath him, his heart practically fluttering in his chest, “sirius you…”
“are you coming, jamie? i need you.”
james shook his head sent off a siren throughout the firehouse, punching in the address for the trucks, and set himself into action, “i’m coming, pads-“ he hauled himself into the front seat of a truck, marlene driving beside him, “i’m coming, okay? stay calm-“
“i’m calm, james.” sirius muttered, “i think this is the most calm i’ve ever been, except when i’m with you.”
james ignored the way that punched at his gut, directing marlene through the streets, “okay, you’re away from the fire? are you injured, pads…” he pulled the phone away from his ear to look at the black smog wafting though the sky a few streets down.
it was massive, the fire.
marlene sped up.
“sirius, i’m almost there- you’re outside?”
“i’m waiting for you, jamie.” he muttered, “on the foot path, by the little tree, just like always.”
“i’ll be there, stay safe, padfoot.”
he tried to calm his nerves, blocking out the sound of marlene radioing the station, asking for more backup. they pulled around and onto grimmwald place to see the black house up in an angry flicker of flames, dark smoke polluting the sky above… and sirius sitting there on the footpath, where he said he’d be.
he’s covered in soot and his hairs a little greasy and he’s got regulus sitting beside him, under his arm, his head on his big brothers shoulder. james hung up the phone and tossed it onto the dash before jumping out of the still moving vehicle.
he ran straight for sirius.
sirius stood, patting regulus on the shoulder as he did, and james full body slammed into him before checking his face over, “sirius… sirius look at me- are you okay? what happened? are you okay?”
“james…” sirius said, a saddened smile on his lips as james’ hands came up to cradle his thin cheeks. tears welled in his watercolour eyes, his bony hand reaching up to hold james’ wrist and keep it there, “jamie… they’re gone.”
james furrowed his brow, looking over to the burning house, his coworkers kicked into action and trying to put out the monstrous fire, and he looked back to sirius, then it clicked.
“you… you killed them, didn’t you?” he whispered, “your parents?”
sirius nodded his head, “they were going to hurt reggie, james… hurt him like they hurt me.” he shook his head, voice too calm for someone going though all this, “i couldn’t let them any longer, so we… we lit the lounge, and bedrooms with candles, and the flames caught on the hideous curtains and… well, they didn’t make it out, jamie.”
james looked him over, his best friend -the man he loves - he looked him over, and ran his thumb over sirius’ cheek to catch a tear, and he smiled.
“you finally did it, huh?”
sirius smiled and nodded, “are you proud of me, jamie?”
james nodded and shushed them, “yes- you can’t tell anyone-“
“we made it look like an accident, james. i remember what you told me.”
“good.” james sighed, “you’re insane, the both of you.”
“they’re gone, jamie.” sirius smiled, tipping his head to the side and gripping james’ wrist tighter, his thumb soothed over the goosebump skin and smeared black ash, “they can’t hurt me anymore.”
“no.” james shook his head, “i know.”
it felt so fucking good to know.
“i’m free.” sirius smiled, running his hands up james’ arms, “i’m so free.”
“yeah, pads… i know.”
sirius smiled and sighed and grabbed james on either side of his neck and pulled. he pulled until they were kissing, and james melted.
“i’ve wanted to do that for years.” sirius smiled, kissing james again, “thank you for waiting, jamie-“
“wait, you knew?” he stepped back, stunned, eyes as wide as his glasses.
sirius smiled, reaching out to wipe soot from james’ face, where his black dusted nose brushed james’ cheek, “of course, jamie, you’re my best friend.”
“oh.” james stared for a moment before breaking out into a grin, “well, not anymore i’m not.” and he kissed him again.
“it’s great you finally got your snog, sarge,” marlene called out from behind him, “but how about some help, yeah?”
“shit, right, fire.” james nodded, pulling away from sirius with one last little kiss, and giving regulus a quick embrace and a kiss to the top of his head, “stay right there, love! and let the paramedics look you over.”
sirius scrunched up his nose and shoed james off as he ran straight into the thick of it, right behind marlene.
yeah, everybody kinda knows that james is in love with a psycho, and it’s true, he certainly is.
but only a few know that sirius is in love with one too.
AN: The moment you’ve all be waiting for… Hopefully you like it! :D There’s a lack of Psycho!Creatures in this fandom, I’ve noticed. Let’s fix that, shall we ;D
"Aleks, baby, why are you running? Come out and play!" Aleks felt sick to his stomach. Why was James doing this? He could hear the grin in James’ voice. He didn’t say a word.
Aleks knew there was something up with James from the moment he stepped in the front door.
"James? I’m home!" Aleks said, looking for the older man. That was odd. The house was unusually quiet for a change. Normally he could hear James screaming at a game, or James would come to greet him with a kiss. He slipped his shoes off and walked into the kitchen, placing his car keys on the counter in front of him. As he did so, he noticed a piece of paper with James’ scrawl on it. A note. Aleks moved to switch the light above the counter on to get a better look at the note.
“Aleks- I’ve got something special planned for us tonight. Hope you like playing games.. ;) James” Aleks read to himself. Something didn’t seem right about that note. It seemed to have a sinister overtone. Aleks felt a pair of arms snake around his waist.
"Hey Baby." James said, nuzzling into the crook of Aleks’ neck. "Ready to play a game?"
Aleks turned to give his boyfriend a kiss. “Of course. What game are we gonna play?”
"Hide and Seek." James said. There was a strange sort of lilt to his voice. It wasn’t normal, at all. Aleks noticed that there was a darkness in James’ eyes that wasn’t there before.
"Are you okay? You don’t seem yourself." Aleks said, worried. James chuckled menacingly.
"Just peachy, my love." James said. He moved away from Aleks to stand by the knife block. He selected a particularly wicked looking one, then moved to stand in front of Aleks, effectively trapping him against the counter.
"James, what are you doing?" Aleks was scared, James wasn’t acting himself at all.
"Oh, nothing. Just setting the mood." James trailed the tip of the butcher’s knife he had selected up and down Aleks’ chest. Aleks’ breath hitched. He slipped past James and took off down the hall.
"Come back Aleks! I only want to play." James said darkly. Aleks turned the corner and yanked the closet door open, hiding inside. He pressed his back against the wall and tried to calm his breathing.
"What the hell, James. What is wrong with you?" Aleks whispered quietly to himself.
"Aleks, baby, why are you running? Come out and play!" Aleks felt sick to his stomach. Why was James doing this? He could hear the grin in James’ voice. He didn’t say a word.
"Oh, the silent treatment, is it? That’s okay, because I know you’re right here!" James shouted the last word as he yanked open the closet door. Aleks screamed and scrambled to his feet. He could see the manic gleam in James’ eyes, and it scared the living hell out of him. Aleks took off running down the hall, socks slipping on the hardwood floor. He knew the front door was just around the corner, if he could get there in time. He could get help. He skidded around the corner, and he saw his freedom right in front of him. He cheered in his head, fingers just barely touching the doorknob.
“I’m free!” Aleks thought, ”I’m gonna get the he-“ His thoughts were cut short as James’ fingers curled around the collar of his T-shirt. He yanked the much lighter Russian boy to him.
"Where do you think you’re going? Our game isn’t finished yet!" James said, a sickening grin plastered on his face. "I’m gonna let you go, I’ll turn around and count to 30 this time. Find a hiding place. If I find you, I win. If you manage to get away, well, you’re lucky."
Aleks swallowed hard. ”So it looks like my options are freedom or death.” He thought to himself.
"Okay." He said, voice husky.
"Great!" James said, disturbingly cheerful. "But I have to warn you," He got close to Aleks’ ear, his breath warm on the side of his face."I’m the best at hide and seek." The younger boy shuddered. James shoved Aleks forward a few steps. "You better hope I don’t find you." James turned around and began to count, loudly.
Aleks wracked his brain for a place to hide. He already hid in the hall closet, that was a no go. The closet under the stairs was too close, and there was no way in hell he was going to hide in a room. He needed a way out in case James found him. He couldn’t hide too close to the back door, that was too predictable. James was smarter than he looked. Then it hit him. He would hide in the kitchen, in the pantry. James wouldn’t find him there, he was sure of it. Aleks crept towards the kitchen and made his way silently to the pantry. He climbed in as quietly as he could, careful not to disturb the various boxes and bags of food inside. Once he was settled, he closed his eyes. It would be over soon.
It felt like an eternity before Aleks heard James shouting, “28, 29, 30! Come out come out wherever you are, Aleks!” He held his breath as he heard the older man walk past the small closet he was in. His footsteps thundered in his ears.
"Aaaallleeekkksss, where are youuuu?" James’ voice was eerily quiet as he walked through the kitchen. He heard him open the cabinet doors, and then slam them shut when Aleks wasn’t inside. The younger boy tried not to scream when he opened his eyes and saw the elder’s feet stop in front of the pantry door. He prayed to every religious deity there was that the feet would move on and let him escape.
It seemed like a million years had passed before James’ moved, continuing his search for Aleks. Aleks sat there for a few more moments, thinking about where he’d go, who he’d call, what he would say. What would he say? ‘Help me, my best friend suddenly turned into a raging psychopath who played a game of hide and seek to determine the longevity of my life?’ Aleks shook his head, clearing his thoughts. He’d cross that bridge when he got to it. Right now he needed to focus on getting out of there.
Aleks ever so slowly cracked the door, peeking out to look for James. He flinched when the hinges creaked. ’Oh god, please don’t let James hear that.’ He thought. He opened the door a little bit further and ever so slowly climbed out. He looked around, scanning for James. James was nowhere to be found. Aleks made a mad dash for the backdoor.
"I found you Aleks!" James bellowed from down the hallway. "Don’t you dare run from me!" Aleks finally reached the backdoor and yanked it open. He was getting the hell out of there, or he was going to die trying. Aleks heard James’ feet pounding on the hardwood floor, and he glanced back at the man who was now running full-tilt towards him with no intention of stopping. The younger man ran outside the door, into the backyard and the cool night air.
"SOMEBODY HELP ME. PLEASE, HELP!" Aleks screamed at the top of his lungs, hoping that somebody would hear him.
"Aleks! You get back here now!" James shouted from behind Aleks. "I’m not done with you yet!" Aleks turned around to see how close James was to him.
Big mistake.
Aleks felt the older man’s weight slam into him like a freight train, knocking him to the ground. All of the air left his lungs with a whoosh, and he wasn’t exactly sure which way was up or down. All Aleks knows is that he managed to shove James off of him, and he started to crawl away before feeling a hand clamp down on his ankle. He kicked weakly, still not fully recovered from the body slam he just received. He felt like he was going to pass out. James still managed to pull Aleks to him with ease.
He began to pull the Russian back to the house by his ankles, unapologetic in the way he did so. All Aleks could do was flail his legs and scream, but he wasn’t quite sure he would be able to much longer. He could feel his head bumping along the ground, hitting rocks and small potholes the entire way. Aleks could feel his heart drop when he realized that there were stairs that he had run down to try and escape James. There would be no way he could do anything to prevent from smacking his head on the corners of the stairs. Not that he wanted to stay conscious for what he was sure James was going to do to him when they got in the house anyways.
When they had reached the steps, James didn’t even bother to haul him to his feet. Aleks was half conscious by the time he reached the back door. He could have sworn he heard James whisper, “I told you that I was the best at Hide and Seek.” before the world spiraled into darkness.
Well, considering the feedback I got about the psycho!James fic, it looks like I should be finishing it up and posting it within the week, hopefully. Most likely Friday or Saturday, seeing as school starts tomorrow for me. Joy.
