Pumpkin Launch
I was at my parents’ house yesterday and came across this sign while going through some old school things of mine.
It was the sign I made for my high school pumpkin launch team. Around Halloween every year, Mr. S’s AP Physics classes got to form teams and build 12-15ft tall trebuchets capable of launching 8lb pumpkins across a parking lot (probably the only reason so many people took AP Physics at my high school).
Two rows of trebuchets would face off, trying to damage each other with pumpkin projectiles, making for a thrilling all-day spectator event for the whole town. It was even something most of us had grown up watching every year- high school students could bring lunch out to watch, and they would even cart middle school, elementary and kindergarten students over to the high school to watch the gourd-themed carnage over the course of the day.
Funnily enough, our team was only called “The Phoenix Foundation” because no one else could think of a good name and I suggested it/made the sign, but was apparently the only one who got the reference (this was several years before the reboot).
