After much procrastination I finally finished v2 of my Kermit replica! Made with F3 fleece from Weird Kid Store (Which they dyed for me). As with my V1 Kermit, I primarily used ECL's threads on the Replica Prop Forums as guidance for how to handle my build, though I did do a few things differently (Like adding a lining to the head of my Kermit, and using foam dowels to stuff his arms and legs).

I took my Kermit outside for some sunshine and ambiance... which I slightly regretted because I forgot mosquito's exist, and they were far more attracted to me than they were Kermit. But at least Kermit got to enjoy himself! (I would've taken more pics of Kermit by the water but I was terrified he was gonna flop in... I did not want to have to experience trying to get pond water out of foam and fleece).

This mini-me commission for a local drag king has finally been finished and his commissioner just came and picked him up!!! I'm so happy to finally have him finished so I can move on to taking forever on my own PERSONAL projects again LOL

His commissioner will be clothing him so for now he's just a naked lil monkey.

Here’s that big project I’ve been talking about, this is Thimble, my test fan-fraggle! A couple months ago I challenged myself to create the best puppet I could using mostly just the materials I could get from regular craftstores.

I’m now working on a replica of Boober fraggle with a much higher materials budget (yay for being able to hide seams!). I’m hoping to get him done before the end of the fraggle rock exhibit up in atlanta, as it would be cool to bring him up there for a direct comparison!

The Jelly Baby from Jelly Baby

in 2021, during covid times and university, I joined a team to do work on two puppets for a stop motion film.

Vladislav, the baby, was to be a massive undertaking to make something that fit Mikhail's brief. He was insistent from the beginning the puppet have long eyes which would pose a problem because most stop motion eye techniques where for balls and round looking.

Using my knowledge of medieval windows and archers, I made the eyeballs massive and the lids long.

The face plates where all held on with magnets and all hand sculpted to give a lovely effect. When we filmed, the eyes had an incredible range of motion which allowed the animator a clean range which was nice. That said one of the sockets and eyeballs had a micron of a millimetre difference which meant it span loosely. This led to me becoming an on-set eyeball wrangler.

The body of the puppet was a ball and socket armature provided by Malvern Armatures with padding using dish sponges and foam packaging. We had three puppets in the end. Two for regular animation and a third for 'stunts'. The stunt baby was permanently attached to a rigging point.

This helped with complex shots like above. Where they were held in the monster Dmitri's arms which were far too spindly to support the weight.
