The cannon round explodes against the cliffside, knocking Kenobi and his mount into the crater.

Cody supposes he should be watching to see if the traitor will survive the fall, but his eyes follow a different target on its path to the bottom. Kenobi's lightsaber, lost from his hand for the second time that day.

It seems like he's always watching that lightsaber fall. He wants to reach out and catch it, like he always has, like he did only moments before when the battle was winding down and Cody could pretend things were looking up as he handed the weapon back with a smile. He didn't know Kenobi was a traitor then. He didn't know his own general was planning on stabbing him in the back by betraying everything he's ever stood for.

He should have known better than to trust a Jedi.

The lightsaber is small, and he quickly loses sight of it amidst all the debris. It will be at the bottom, he knows, falling until it crashes on the rocks. Cody doesn't think it will break—it's always seemed too sturdy when he held it for that—but he can't stop himself from wishing it would. Maybe then he won't feel like he has to pick it back up and hand it to a dead man who took his trust and let it shatter on the ground.

thoughts on 501st!! specifically Rex!!

This is like opening up a can of worms when it comes to me HAKDHALDJSKD I have so many thoughts about them

They're obviously a very competent battalion and have some of the best strategists, professionals, and fighters out there but like. they're still a bunch of 20-somethings all together in one place. They definitely get up to a bunch of dumb shit. Sometimes you walk into the medbay and all the medics are just there seeing who can build the tallest tower out of tongue depressors. Someone found a high powered blower in the hanger once and everyone took turns sitting on a wheelie chair and spinning around with it. The common rooms always have some stupid game going on like that one where you try to guess who slapped the back of your head. You think Rex as the captain would be exempt from this kind of behavior but no, he's actually the one who stacked a bunch of the chairs in the mess hall cause he wanted to feel taller than Anakin for once. Literally everyone in the battalion is just like this
