Everybody stfu, I am Ending the ‘is Yoshikaru romantic/platonic/etc’ debates by introducing y’all to Quadrant Shipping.

The alien species of trolls in Homestuck have been socialized to experience 4 different types of for the most part nonmonogamous romance*, but only 1 is relevant to the Yoshikaru debate - Moirallegiance.

Moirallegiance - Also called the Diamond Quadrant, the Pale Quadrant and Redrom Conciliatory, it’s similar to the idea of human platonic and queerplatonic relationships. Moirallegiance is the closest thing to a soulmate - a complimentary pair built on mutual protectiveness, affection and respect, sharing opposing traits the other lacks within themselves. Where one partner falters or lacks, the other is there to pick up the slack. The word combines ‘allegiance’ and ‘moira’, meaning the Greek concept of a shared fate/destiny. Moirails are expected to learn and improve from each other’s strengths and weaknesses.

It is also the responsibility of each partner to “pacify a partner who is dangerous. It's not all about being platonic soul bros forever” and “pacify the other, to function as the better half” because if the other was “left to their own devices, they would present a serious threat to society, or even to themselves.”

In a healthy moirallegiance, “the two partners in a strong pale relationship will serve to balance and complement each other's emotional profiles, and thus allow their other relationships to be more successful.”

One popular misconception about Moirallegiance is that it is purely platonic simply because the two people in the relationship don’t have sex and because it’s the closest thing humans can understand it as, but this is not true, it is defined canonically as a romance - an intense one at that.

Other bonus information - the closest thing Quadrant Shipping has towards human romance is Matespritship. Also called the Heart Quadrant, the Flushed Quadrant and Redrom Concupiscent, this focuses on strongly positive emotions and sexual reproduction. The word combines ‘mate’ and the French word ‘espirt’ meaning ‘spirit/soul’.

While humans might feel emotions like adoration and idolization towards their romantic partner, matesprits feel a sense of pity towards theirs and want to be of help.

STILL haven’t met Magnus in my watch yet but on the TOPIC of watching I have been WATCHING his tag because he looks INTERESTING and I can’t just NOT latch onto the possibility of pitch-shipping. Is this how they actually act? I will not know for probably the next few weeks to months!
