YES god thank you divergent, the testing, etc wanted to be like hunger games so bad, but they weren’t making big enough social commentary. i’m for sure stealing this idea from another post but the way that katniss goes from blaming the upper class of district 12 and then to the other districts that she thinks are more fortunate than her and then eventually realizes that it’s power hungry government officials. it makes me lose my mind.

also the catching fire movie is just a masterpiece in general lol

Related to prev post, one of my favourite genres of fanwork is when the main villain is semi-reformed and just casually lives and hangs out with the protagonists with literally zero explanation. Not even set post-some grand redemption arc where they're a changed person full of remorse looking to make up for their past actions, they still casually and happily talk about being evil or wanting to commit crimes or kill people or take over the world, they're just not actively doing anything to directly harm the protagonists anymore so it's chill and they're part of the gang now. No-one questions or challenges their being there, or if one character does they're immediately shut down by everyone else, even if the former antagonist is actively talking about the thrill of murder right now.
