I don’t think I fully appreciated how monstrous my stamina was pre-Covid until now when I can’t even cleanly invert and my body takes over a day to recover from 2 hours of heavy training.

My favorite neck and upper back stretch 💪 (closing the gap suuucks tho 😅🥵). Happy Easter 🐣🎁🐰! #easter #sunday #neck #upperback #stretch #stretching #contortion #flexibility #mobility #training #quarantraining (at New York, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-5I71mAHHE/?igshid=qjy45kt9fgh1
31.03.20 - training my iguana deadlift on my bad side. I tried this on Sunday and barely got my feet off the ground. Yesterday it clicked and I had no trouble getting up. I think it was mostly a fear thing - this move is scary enough even on my good side, never mind when my hands are switched over and everything feels weird and wrong! Glad I persevered though.
When I was in the middle of the performance season a few weeks ago, I was going to my PT monthly with one extra emergency trip to get my knee fixed. My boss asked me how much longer I would be performing because she didn’t like me leaving a few hours early once a month in order to get out to my PT (who is based in MD, so I have to pick some weird times to avoid traffic).
I’m not performing now; I’m basically back in my training mode thanks to this pandemic. And if there was any doubt that my PT appointments are necessary, let’s put it this way: I do release and strengthening exercises everytime I train, but it’s still not enough. My shoulder is so tight because I haven’t been able to have someone dry needle it that I’m getting increasing tingling and numbness in my right hand. Even doing PT exercises and taking breaks, my training load accumulates over time and I need someone to manually release a few trigger points to get it back down to a manageable level.
“Maybe you should stop training so much if it’s hurting you”
Training keeps me from hurting even more. My hypermobility makes my hips and shoulders highly unstable and when I wasn’t training them, they had a high frequency of collapse/injury from doing basic tasks. Like walking. Or closing a car door. So I’d have 20x more problems if I weren’t training heavily.
So can everyone just fucking stay indoors so we can flatten this curve? I need my PT office to be safely open again so I can exist without nerve issues and referral pain
(I did a telehealth appointment with them last week, but the at home exercises aren’t as effective without physical treatment)
I had a really strong training session last night. On my friend’s advice, I borrowed a space heater from my office and used it to keep my basement workout space warm. It makes a big difference when your muscles don’t freeze up from 1 second of inactivity.
Anyways, I made some large strides on my presses and stalder negatives. I figured out how to tap into more of my active compression, which cleaned up the initiation of my press exponentially. And for some reason, my stalder negatives were on last night. I managed 4 successful ones, where usually that’s a skill that I only manage on days when I’m super warm and conditioned.
Training at home is very difficult for me, I can’t wait to be back in a proper training space. Any training is good training though 💪! Working hook foot hollow back is interesting because it feels like I’m going SO deep, than I see the video and I’m like “THAT’S IT?!” I have another 90° to work on?! 😅🤣. Also, enjoy me falling out of a neck stretch after 🥴. #oop #rainyday #quarantine #flow #quarantraining #feelingrigid #contortion #flexibility #handstand #elbowstand #chinstand #training #coronavirus (at New York, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-FiXIrAlij/?igshid=1t3pedz79kux7
