Jamie Dornan: Actor pays tribute to late dad as he receives honorary degree from Queen’s
The star of The Tourist has come back to Northern Ireland to be honoured as an honorary graduate at the university his late father attended.
Co Down actor Jamie Dornan has been awarded a Doctorate for distinction in the arts at Queen’s University, Belfast.
The Holywood man is the recipient of two Irish Film and Television Awards and has also been nominated for a BAFTA and a Golden Globe Award.
His father Professor Jim Dornan passed away aged 73 in 2021 after contracting Covid in Dubai, but Jamie could not see him because he was in Australia to film The Tourist.
The retired obstetrician and gynaecologist had considered a career in acting before turning to medicine, but he later had small parts in The Fall, in which Jamie played serial killer Paul Spector, and the third series of Marcella, starring Anna Friel.
Speaking at the Queen’s ceremony, Jamie said: “It’s a huge honour. My dad went to this university, there are pictures in my house of my dad wearing a similar robe. I’m very proud to be involved in this great university.”

12.02.20 • yesterday I finally found the perfect spot to study. Top floor of the library, where I can have a wonderful and dramatic view of the surroundings, the mountains covered with snow.
ten 4 ten 4 ten
ahhh I haven’t done one of these in ages thank you sm for tagging me @rinneyelaine !!
rules: answer 10 questions, write 10 of your own, then tag 10 people
answers under the cut bc I have a tendency to ramble
1. what is the strangest food/combination of foods that you love to eat?
this is kinda mainstream at this point but I will defend mcdonald’s french fries in a chocolate milkshake with my dying breath
2. what would your dream house look like and where would it be?
my realistic dream house would prolly actually be an apartment, with big windows that get good sunlight in the afternoon and a little balcony with lots of plants, and I haven’t decided what city yet but def a city and not far from a metro station. my unrealistic dream house would either be a bazillion dollar georgetown brownstone or one of those european castles you can get kinda cheap ish (for a castle) but completely renovated to modern living standards
3. if you could spend one day wherever you want, doing whatever you want with whoever you want (even famous people living or dead), where would your day look like?
this question is impossible because there’s too many people I’d want to do too many things with that couldn’t possibly fit in a single day, but the best and most logistically viable answer I can come up with is I’d simply want to relive the second day I was in Venice with my friends, from the moment I woke up to the moment I went to sleep, no changes, I’d want every detail exactly the same
4. what is one thing you loved as a child that shaped who you are now and why? could be movies, shows, books, games, etc.
*college essay voice* ever since I was little I’ve always had a passion for politics
but for real idk what shaped who I am, I feel like I’ve changed a lot since I was a kid, but I do know I’ve always liked dogs, we’ve always had a dog, and I always point out dogs when I walk down the street and I have a friend who won’t quit making fun of me for it
5. name 5 of your top favorite things, any category or no category (like musical artists, colors, plants, etc)
category: months
5. july
4. december
3. march
2. november
1. september
6. what is your LEAST favorite movie you’ve ever seen and why was it so terrible?
I feel like I should have a better answer than this, but my film class last sem watched the german version of funny games and I was Not A Fan of that movie
7. what is one (or more if you like the drama) unpopular or controversial opinion that you have?
I tend to avoid controversy, but my english friends and I have a thing about trains and I’m very far down that rabbit hole so trust me when I say I’m doing you a favor by not dragging you down here with me
8. what is one scent that you have a strong scent memory about? or just a very comforting scent that you love?
uhh the only distinct smell memory I can think of was Very Bad, but a comforting scent is Thanksgiving when my mom makes the turkey and every corner of the house smells home cooking
9. if you could live in one fictional universe (minus the danger you may encounter) what universe would you want to live in?
either the red white and royal blue universe or the west wing universe (both because they’d have the best possible presidents and politics would be good)
10. what is one song/movie/book/etc. (or one of each) that makes you feel peaceful and calm or that you turn to when you’re having a rough day? why?
I always end up coming back to into the spiderverse, detective pikachu, or to all the boys I’ve loved before when I’m struggling to get through the semester, depending on what genre I feel like. I also have a plethora of Songs For Moods but which ones will vary wildly on caused the Mood
Katherine took all the people I would normally tag so ig if you want to do it here’s some questions!! or if she tagged you already and you want to do it again ig the questions are different so feel free but no pressure
1. what is a hill that you would be willing to die on?
2. where is a place that you left a piece of your heart?
3. you can eat or drink anything you want right now, what would you have?
4. what do you most want to do when you get out of quarantine?
5. what is a quote that changed your life?
6. what is a pet peeve that drives you insane?
7. if you weren’t doing what you’re doing now (your current major at uni, your current job, etc.) what would you be doing instead?
8. why are you and your best friend(s) actually friends?
9. what is your favorite ice cream flavor?
10. what is the best gift you’ve ever received?

Im at a 3 day social sciences summer school at QUB, mostly exploring the different ways to visualise data and interpreting this quantitative data. We're working on creating posters based on a topic of our choosing and my group chose "Northern Ireland attitudes towards LGBT individuals"
Queen’s University Belfast Open Day!!!
On a trip to Northern Ireland in April we decided to go to the Queen’s open day. QUB had always been on my list as a top university and I had heard that it had a great reputation so I was excited to visit.
This event was a medicine only event so it was great to really see course in detail and have a dedicated day to explore what QUB could offer.
We had many talks from current doctors who also severed as members of staff for the university. This included a vascular surgeon, respiratory physician, psychiatrist and a obstetrician/gynaecologist.
One of the first talks was about the history of the uni and their facilities. QUB is in the top 1% in the world and 2nd in the country for its facilities. Also Belfast is one of the cheapest places to live in the UK.
