AU 1, different take on my LOTR crossover story: Elia being the most recent reincarnation of her distant ancestor Mara, Princess of Kemet and daughter of no one else than Khamul, the second most powerful Nazgul of Sauron, from when Khamul was still a mortal man. Turns out that Rhaegar's hare-brained ideas about "the dragon must have three heads" and running away with Lyanna Stark instead of deposing Aerys, therefore playing a major role in the civil war breaking out, and his rather pathetic excurse for his actions upon returning after nearly a year away in the Tower of Joy, will cost him not only his expected crown as the next Targaryen King, but his very life as well. With both Aerys and Rhaegar dead, Aegon is crowned as the oldest son of the crown prince and therefore next in line to the Iron Throne despite his tender age.
AU 2: Elia and Rhaella realizing that Rhaegar cares more for some half-vauge prophecy than the actual realm and people he is supposed to be the next ruler over, and uses his absense from King's Landing to dispose of Aerys (Lewyn giving Rhaella a poisonous needle hidden in a ring to stab him the next time he "visits" her) and crowns baby Aegon as the next King with his grandmother and mother as the main regents, all this happening before Rhaegar gets a chance to make a counter-coup and finds himself "dead from a bandit attack" on the way back from Dorne. Turns out that the Kingsguard members are not always able to defeat opponents who are more willing to use dirty tricks against someone in full armour.
