Staircases. I like staircases! I prefer them narrow though. The type that you can only go one person at a time and if someone comes your way you can barely pass. Anna was known as the dancing Queen & like all the Stuart Queen she was very hands-on when it came to staging #plays #masques #ballets & #Operas - visiting dignitaries were bemused & delighted by Anna & James playing the leading roles in Performances. Anna loved to dance & descriptions of her leaping & spinning across the stage, tossing her husband the king & princes in the air astonished visiting royals - it was a long way from the rigid formality & brutality of the court of Queen ElizabethI & her obsession with bear baiting as entertainment- for despite revisionist #historians Elizabeth had no taste for theatre or ballet & it wasn’t until 1603 that Sir Francis Bacon, Shakespeare & subversive women & #lgbtqsupport such as #MaryWroth Could finally publish their work. Unfortunately Anna never got to dance in the Queens house as funds ran low. The arrival of 15 year old heiress Queen Henry - wife of CharlesI & Daughter of French Queen Marie de Medici - Mother of the Baroque ⚜️ Queen Henry arrived with plenty of funds to complete the work and the rest are new #artists composers singers - #VanDyck #artemisiagentileschi etc - Like Anna, Queen Henry didn’t mind getting her hands dirty, painting backdrops & stagesets & sewing costumes.
