About a third of the way through the Loamhedge audiobook, there's a moment where it sounded (to me) like Mr. Jacques they/them-s Springald. Immediately on board. Yay! They/them Springald.
Also thinking about Springald's mentee/mentor relationship with Sarobando, who is definitely also queer. They relate as the two squirrels on this journey, and I think through queer aspects of their identity, and they're both women.
Love them both and always wish the best for Springald :)
Redwall is aromantic culture.
Not just because I say it is, but because none of the books are centered around romance. Friendships are not undervalued. There are characters who are one hundred percent in queerplatonic relationships and you cannot convince me otherwise. There is community and fellowship and food and mice with swords and almost everyone lives together in a giant castle and grows their own food.
Everyone takes care of the children together, and yes there are romantic relationships, but there is no random slapping characters together at the end because the author didn’t know what to do with them, they just are. They’re allowed to just be them and I love those books so much I am not well
