Saro: Horty's right. Bragoon: He is? Horty: I am?
Horty: *Starts complaining*
Me, Saro, Bragoon, Springald, and Fenna:
(SIGH. I love you, Redwall hares: I am your biggest apologist. BUT! When you reach this level of whining, I can't defend you anymore!!! Hortwill Braebuck... you're only a hair better than Florian Dugglewoof Wilffachop... because you're a decent brother!).
About a third of the way through the Loamhedge audiobook, there's a moment where it sounded (to me) like Mr. Jacques they/them-s Springald. Immediately on board. Yay! They/them Springald.
Also thinking about Springald's mentee/mentor relationship with Sarobando, who is definitely also queer. They relate as the two squirrels on this journey, and I think through queer aspects of their identity, and they're both women.
Love them both and always wish the best for Springald :)

Saro and Bragoon really said life partner rights huh
Redwall Thoughts
Bragoon and Saro are definitely a couple, no one can convince me otherwise. I don’t care that they’re an otter and a squirrel (respectively). I’m convinced that they’re a couple. After all, look at all the evidence…
● they ran away from Redwall TOGETHER as dibbuns and still haven’t parted ways.
● Bragoon apparently willingly gave up the position of Skipper (a very important and powerful position among otters) just so he and Saro could continue adventuring together
● If I remember correctly, Saro is the only one to ever call Bragoon ‘Bragg’
● the friends they’ve made in their travels automatically assume that the two are still traveling together
● they will call just about anybeast 'mate’ in person, but when referring to somebeast as 'mate’ in conversation it’s almost always in reference to the other
● they only ever use 'my mate (name)’ for each other, and it’s always used positively
● I’ve listened to the audio book 3 times in the last week, and I could swear that they use a different tone when referring to each other or talking together
● They accept each other unconditionally
● They sleep close enough for Bragoon to move his tail fractionally and have Saro feel it (also how he only had to touch her ear for her to wake up)
● Bragoon’s line about never going anywhere without Saro
● how close they are in general even if you disregard everything else I just wrote
Bragoon: Bridge the generational gap by combining old and new slang into one! Saro: Mood to the max! Horty: Tubular af. Fenna: Groovy, I hate it. Springald: If she breathes, she's a square. Martha: Martha: So, I'm leaving. Don’t ask me where; just anywhere away from this stupidity
Martha, looking at the fridge: Aw, your kid’s drawing of this funny looking dog! Saro: We don’t have a kid Bragoon, clenching teeth: It’s a giraffe
