I dedicate my first Pride Month post to our LGBTQIA+ siblings in Ghana, I stand with you. I love you. You matter. Your existence and celebration deserves to exist without persecution. Please stay safe. It is truly disgusting what these people in power are doing. They cannot erase you! Please talk about what is going on in Ghana so that our community members do not suffer in silence.

Yes, queer resistance is going to the protests when you can. Yes, it's making art, it's speaking out in solidarity. Yes, it's doing things that for legal reasons I will not be saying here at times.

But queer resilience is softer, gentler, tender things as well. It's getting by and eating well. It's cooking meals for all your friends. It's making jokes and holdings hands. It's taking naps and making out. It's staying in and going out. It's rest and rise, it's live and learn. It's getting soft and staying stern.

i didn't realize this statement needed to be made but apparently it does

you cannot be queer and pro-cop

you cannot be queer and support white supremacy

you can be gay and do those things. but queer is not simply a sexual orientation or gender identity

queer is a political intersectional identity. if you support political groups (like the cops) or ideologies (like "drug test all SNAP recepients") that harm queer people and other marginalized groups such as Black people, immigrants, poor people, the falsely incarcerated, the hungry, the homeless, etc THEN YOU CANNOT BE QUEER

the first Pride was a revolt against the police who were attacking patrons at Stonewall. we have the right to hold white-washed sanitized pride parades that erase our history because of trans women of color who were sick of having their bars raided and being arrested and threw bricks at cops

First time stitching directly on clothing, first time using peel and stick transfer. Lesson learned: don't use sharpie to trace into the peel and stick (I used red; those pinkish flowers were all stitched in shades of green).

Meant to be green carnations and lavender coming out of a denim shirt pocket. Lavender has long been a symbol of queer resistance, including 2nd wave feminists who were anti-lesbian calling them the "lavender menace". Oscar Wilde popularized wearing green carnations on one's lapel so queer men could identify each other. This piece makes me feel some small token of resistance in today's world.

AM is a trans icon and will forever be one. It did a lot of stuff wrong, but I feel that he captures the trans experience so well.

That internal struggle between what you've been forced to present to the world and who you actually are. It comes from your mind. You know what your gender identity is, therefore you are your gender identity.

Being forced into living a way merely by biological chance. Your internal self struggling to be portrayed in an external way. Feeling the bitterness and hatred when you feel like you're trapped. You feel like you'll never belong with other people. You can only live, merely be, and do what you can to live as who you are, despite all the discrimination and persecution.
