AGREEEEEEE. He's an ass in season 1! Are we going to ignore that we start to see he isn't that bad because he is nice to Jackie and tries to help her out in prom? Becuase before that, he was a stalker that wanted to get into his best friend's girlfriend pants. But we start to see he is actually a good boy when he is nice to Jackie even when he doesn't like her at that point. COME ON.
Absolutely.
Look, Hyde is an asshole. That's his character and we love him like that because we have been shown why he is like this, and that it is just one of his many ways to protect himself because life and people didn’t teach him any better.
Maybe not on purpose, but the writers took Jackie, someone he was supposed to not like, to show us this boy, who just a few episodes ago was being a dick by trying to stole his best friend's girl, is actually a good person.
This is one of the many reasons we say Jackie always brings out the best of Hyde (and vice versa), because that's how their relationship starts, with Hyde showing he is actually capable of sympathy.
His compassion is very important to his characterization. He becomes friends with Eric because he accepts to protect him (for money, yes, but he could have say no anyway), he then becomes friends with Fez to also protect him. And Jackie falls in love with him because he protects her when no one, not even her best friend, would even try to.
Is wonderful to notice the kind of effect Jackie has on Hyde so early in the show. Again, this wasn't done on purpose in a romantic way, but in universe is something to take in account. Jackie would say is destiny, some kind of really nice foreshadowing.
Here is a way better meta to understand Hyde’s character.
What do you think of Haley's constant change of career?
Most people struggle their whole life with what they want to do for the rest of it, so it’s not weird for me that she does. What actually gets on my nerves is that she was already showing to like what she was doing with her photography and fashion stuff but it seems like the writers are out of ideas with her character and it’s driving me crazy!
I think you deserve a ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧ WHOLE BUNCH OF LOVE!!! Because you're an amazing person and this user is happy you're here. Share this don't share it, it's all ok as long as you remember you're loved ❤️💜💙💚💛
OH AND!!!! Hyde/Jackie + 'Life As We Know It' to cry happily <333333333
*gross sobbing* I’m so sorry, Kelso and Brooke.
Warning: for this AU, Kelso and Brooke has to die for the rest of the plot to happen. But you all should know that if you have seen the movie, lol.
I’m going to do a canon divergence AU. In this one, Chicago happens but Hyde never marries some random stripper but ends his relationship with Jackie believing what she tells him about what happened with Kelso. He decides he can’t give her what she wants and she can’t do nothing but accept it.
After a while, he moves on. She takes back the job in Chicago, and moves on, becoming closer and closer to Brooke who then marries Kelso, and together raise their kid.
During Betsy’s first birthday, Kelso and Brooke ask separately Jackie and Hyde if they are fine with them putting their names together as Betsy’s guardians in case something ever happens to them, since they are already her godparents. Both agree easily since come on, what could happen to them in their 20s? None actually think of the fact that this implies they would have Betsy’s custody together or at least, shared.
A year later, Hyde gets a call in the middle of the night, a frantic Eric tells him there has been an accident and they don’t know if Kelso and family are alright but they are leaving for Chicago right away. Everyone arrives to find an already broken Jackie that quickly informs them the Kelsos has passed away and Betsy is with her grandmother until Social Service says otherwise.
Soon, Hyde and Jackie find out about their friend’s desires of them being Betsy’s guardians. In cases like this, when there are more family members who can take care of the kid, they have the chance to talk to them and pass the responsability. But Jackie wants to respect her friend’s words and Hyde is sure as fuck no kid is safe in the hands of any of Kelso’s brothers and his parents? No way. The only one may be Brooke’s mother. But the woman doesn’t seem fit for the job on Jackie’s opinion and she wants to have Betsy’s full custody to everyone’s but Donna and Fez’s surprise.
Jackie adores that little girl, and she can’t help but feel like if she needs to make sure she will grow up fine and in loving arms. So when Hyde protests and says he wants to help too, she isn’t truly thinking on how they are going to do this until they are told they will need to get into court for the shared custody since the will said it was them together.
In the meantime, Betsy needs a stable place to stay and their social worker propose them to share a place for a while so both are taking care of the girl. Since Hyde would have to travel from Point Place to Chicago every time, Jackie agrees and they spend a weekend taking care of Betsy and organizing how they are supposed to do this.
When Hyde shows up a week later with a plan of moving to Chicago so the shared custody isn’t such a mess with him having to travel, Jackie starts to understand she is now raising a kid with Hyde. Having him so close now is going to be hell. They don’t have a bad relationship or something, it’s just… after failling that relationship, Jackie never thought she would suddenly co-parent with him.
But so far, so good.
They have their jobs, and their lifes, and Betsy to care about and see each other every week. Once the session for the shared custody gets near, the social worker tells them she doesn’t consider it a good option since the kid is so young and she just lost her parents. Having to explain Betsy one day what happened is one thing, but dealing with her right now, when she obviously realizes her actual parents aren’t there, is something serious.
After a long ass conversation, they decide to try another thing: what if they become some kind of roommates in order to give Betsy both parental figures? It could work, and they have known each other for a long time, so… It’s fine at the begining. They are constantly annoying the shit out of each other but get serious when it comes to the little girl. Betsy is starting to say words and runs a lot, they have to be in her every moment just in case the whole situation is taking a hard time for the girl.
They aren’t bad at parenting, still having their disagreements and fucking up some times. They freak out the first time Betsy gets sick, they fight a lot about what kind of diapers she should wear and when they should start teaching her how to go to the bathroom by herself, if it’s fine or not for the girl to sleep in Hyde’s bed every night becuse when she doesn't, it seems like if she doesn’t get any sleep.
Jackie notices how much Hyde kinda spoils Betsy. He does whatever the girl wants like watch horrible kiddy shows and put kid’s music, make faces and voices for her, play with her… is endearing. She also notices how patient he is, the way he tries to be there for Betsy and treats her [Jackie], it starts taking her breathe away and when she realizes months have passed by, she’s falling for him all over again.
Hyde is no better. He has noticed the way he really likes seeing Jackie with Betsy, the way he feels when they get confused as an actual family and when the little girl starts calling them mom and dad. Jackie and him are living under the same roof, he knows he has always had feelings for her and that now they are coming back in full force. This completely new and terrafaying, he’s not gonna lie. But he likes it, this is the happiest he has been in years.
So, after Jackie has a boring date with a co-worker, he decides to do something about it. Hyde actually asks her out, and they leave the girl with her grandmother.
Jackie is surprised this is happening, and when they actually just stay in the house because he cooked for her, she knows there is no going back, this is it. They keep things as lowkey as they can, but their feelings are too strong and soon they are sleeping on the same bed, kissing each other good morning and good night, having each other’s picture in their office and going for grosseries and just being incredibly domestic.
At some point, Jackie starts to worry about if this time things are going to be different if she brings out her desire of getting married. Hyde is the only man she has actually managed to picture herself feeling happy as a married woman, and things haven’t change for her in that matter.
Hyde knows this, he also knows she never got to know he had actually decided to propose when the mess happened and while Jackie wonders if she should bring it out, he wonders if he should do it, too.
They are already living together, and are parents together, dammit.
By the time Christmas comes and they go to Point Place with the Formans, no one is surprised to hear them say how things are for them now. When Red and Kitty sit down Hyde and ask him if he is planning on maybe even consider marrying Jackie, while Donna and Fez intorrogates Jackie about the same, both decide is time to bring in out to the other.
January comes, and so does Betsy’s third birthday. Their people go to Chicago for her birthday party. They have now moved to an actual house, with pictures in the living room and a room they painted together for Betsy. Jackie is excited to show everyone their home and her engagement ring.
By the end of the month, Kitty sends them some of the pictures she took of the party and Hyde has a new photo of his two girls to put in his office back at the store.
how do you think the summer went for Jackie when she was "deciding" between Hyde and Kelso?
You know, I don’t think much about this because I hate that arc. It’s ridiculous, she had nothing to decide as she herself says. She admits she’s in love with Hyde and Kelso is only an option because she doesn’t feel like if Hyde needs her and it’s nice to be needed (which I understand, but more on that later).
In-character-Jackie wouldn’t do that shit, man. I can totally see her telling Hyde that she needs time and space after what happened, and she would like to take the summer to think about it and then, they can talk again about their relationship. And he would accept, because this is Hyde, dude, he understands.
So if it was in character, I think she would still put, like, extra efford in her looks and spend most her time with Donna. I don’t think she would ignore Hyde (or Kelso, since he would probably be bothering her every day, until Hyde would probably frog him to dead or something), but she would try to not think about it.
Which wouldn’t work, lmao.
Pool, Donna’s place, shopping, making Donna try to go shopping, actually going on shopping with Fez, basement a little. That kind of stuff, if she doesn’t go out with her cheerleader squad or the girl scouts, and so.
Eventually, she would end up having conversations with Hyde more often. Until she would notice that Donna is long gone, it’s almost 11 pm and she’s still down the basement talking with him.
Dude, do you think Andy will return to Modern Family?
At this point? No :( If he would come back for season 9 or something, we should had already had news about it. But Adam is now filming another show and has like a million movies, so... no :(((
YOU REMEMBERED IT! Okay, so I’m working on two pieces right now. One is basically done, I just have to revise it and make sure it makes sense, then find a beta for it.
It’s about Rooster, is a character study kind of fanfic and it got really deep. I didn’t thought I was going to be able to go so deep, but I did. It literally starts with the day Colt was born and ends with how he feels after he rejects the knife from his dad.
Also I touch that one thing we have talked about, about the bisexuality and the being the closet thing and THAT ONE THING WITH THE COACH, LIKE???? Yeah, it’s deep.
The other one is the entire day Maggie made Rooster THINK about seriously giving all his money to Colt for his career. Lots of feelings. I’ve been thinking I may add my brother’s character, Becky, into that fic.
