Back for #igquiltfest2020day2 with a handy #Quitling tipbfor sewing 1/4 seams! A lot of machines, including this @janomeamerica 2030 QDC use center needle for 1/4 piecing with the 1/4inch foot. This causes the fabric to be only partially on the feed dogs and can cause difficulties in getting started and staying straight at the end so I move my needle to the right (5.5mm width) and use the edge of my standard pressure foot (J foot for Baby Lock, A for Janome) as my guide. This way I am taking advantage of all the feed teeth and my ride is a little smoother. I hope this tip help decrease your quilting stress! I love it when a tool you have can become multifunctional. For example this heavy-duty cone thread stand. Just as the name suggests it is used for holding cone thread spools while you sew. Well, I needed to sew binding on my corsage quilt and was wondering how I could contain the binding so it wouldn't get underfoot as I sewed it on, I saw the thread stand and thought why not!?! And it worked perfectly! If you don't have one of these try using your paper towel holder instead, or if you need a thread stand we have those in stock for you here. 😊 Do you have any multi tasking tool tips? If so share it with us in the comments below 👇. #Repost @berninausa (@get_repost) ・・・ {#berninatakeover by @christaquilts} . . {video/no sound} #machinequiltingtips . . I love using the dual feed and 20d foot to stitch in the ditch. You can also use a walking foot with an open toe to see what you are doing. . . Watch how my hands smooth out the fabric as I go. . I press all seams open to reduce bulk and actually stay IN the ditch. . Contrary to popular myth it will NOT weaken the seams. In fact it will actually secure them to the quilt! 👍🏻👍🏻 . When piecing, you can sew with a shorter stitch length (1.8-2.0) to prevent the ends of the seams from coming apart. It also helps hide the thread you are piecing with. . . #christaquilts #domesticmachinequilting #walkingfootquilting #quiltingtips #instagramtakeover (at Appletree Quilting Center)
