Quarter-Life Crisis
It’s this stage in life where no one was being warned about. You were shaped into this standard of ‘go to school-graduate-find a job-be successful’ by the people eyeing on you. If you went outside of the box, the world will make you feel that you’re doomed forever.
In reality, a lot goes in between of those stages of career and profession growth as well as your growth in all aspects. Say for example at work, you’re not just expected to earn good money, but you are also required to maintain good reputation, meet or exceed your manager’s expectations, and professionalism towards your clients and colleagues. In the family, you will be expected to balance your time for them. For the friends, you don’t want to miss any catch-ups and gatherings to keep your bond strong. When it comes to love and relationships, there’s that pressure of taking it to the next level-marriage.
Making a shift on your choices and beliefs about anything can be stressful and sometimes, heart-breaking. You have no choice but to do it because it’s for your own growth and for those very important ones to make way into your life. You will be bent, tested, and crushed. It’s no easy feat and only the strongest and the fearless survives.
At this time in your life you may experience betrayal, dishonesty, competition, security at work, get fired from work, pain from chasing your dreams, pressure of having it all figured out, getting that bread for your loved ones and so on.
Quarter-life crisis is something that shouldn’t be taken lightly of. It can get you on you down your knees and makes you question about your life choices. At this stage, you will discover the best and the worst of people, prioritize yourself above what other people will think, brave the uncertainties, and so on that this world requires for you to exist. It’s too much to take with only little resources for a shift of the old life you have towards the life you wish to be in the future. And it’s too much to bear that you want to take your own life. It’s a true story and it’s no joke. If you’ve experienced this, you’re not alone. Acknowledge it, accept it, seek help as soon as possible, and believe that you can overcome.
To all the youngsters below 20, don’t freak-out and panic. Enjoy where you are right now and don’t put to much pressure in yourself. Take one day at a time and remember to celebrate even the smallest victories. It takes a lot of time thinking what you want to be in the future. It’s not wrong to aspire for success but remember - success is a journey, not a destination.
