This week's episode reminded me, why do you think Shigure even dated Mayu in the first place if he was already in love with Akito? It's said in the manga he was cold to her too and that's why she broke up with him, do you think that's an indication he'd be a cold boyfriend to Akito too in their relationship?
tbh i think the fact that shigure has treated akito coldly for a good couple of? months? years? is a pretty good indication that he could be cold (or have instances of coldness) in their relationship as well. forgive me for not going to reread the scenes between shigure and mayu first, but from what i’m remembering, the reason they were even together was... well, for a multitude of reasons, in my opinion.
i think shigure was jealous of the happiness hatori found in a relationship and he wanted to try and attempt the same through mayu. i also think it was an example of shigure’s possessive nature and how he wanted to just have someone belong to him for a bit (and even, maybe, belong to someone as well)
i also think shigure was just plain not interested in mayu as a person, haha. she was just... there! she was convenient, she was someone, ti was easy to nab her and keep her by his side, and that’s really what he wanted. again, leaning on our favorite interpretation of shigure, he might have just finally wanted the comfort of being at someone’s side, even if it was at the expense of them both and lead to a cold, stiff relationship because there were no true feelings behind it.
now, shigure does actually have some love for akito (although we’ve debated the validity of it on my blog before hehe) and this episode has also reminded us that shigure does have the capacity to be kind and thoughtful towards the people he cares about. we also don’t know how shigure and akito spend time together normally, as we mostly peeked at their relationship during times of strife, but i think he’d be able to show kindness and thoughtfulness towards her for the most part...
... but having a manipulative nature doesn’t go away? and with the way the two of them both cope and lash out because of the struggles in their lives, i can see their relationship being really rough, especially at the start ... u_u urgh
