HARPER BREAK - she had the best eyebrows and the best teeth! Damn society’s culled image of “beauty”. We both ended up plucking our unibrows and now WE CANT GET THEM BAAAACK! (For those of you who did not grow up in the 90s you may not know that eyebrow hair doesn’t grow back after too much plucking) STAY AWAY from what THEY say is beautiful especially if it doesn’t look like you or you don’t have those particular features. There is no ideal beauty, other than say my horse who is definitely the prettiest/handsomest thing on the planet, but don’t fall into the trap of what they say is the measure of beauty. It’s so hard not to but this “ideal beauty” is really distracting people from their fullest potential. If we weren’t so focused on looking a certain way or figuring out how to consume 🤑🤮🤑 certain things that make us appear a certain way and feel a certain way then maybe we would have the time to focus on CREATING and figuring out what is unique and special about us that we have to offer. As opposed to focusing on what’s imperfect and what we don’t have and how we don’t measure up. The system exalted through media has us constantly trying to keep above water in how we look, how we feel about ourselves and how much we can consume and who will like us, and what cool clique can we be a part of? Survival survival survival. I’m reading #RaceMatters by #CornelWest @brothercornelwest And he talks about the ideal “European and Blue” and how IF THAT is the ideal beauty (white with blue eyes) than for example black, African American people will never measure up. Soooo obviously that’s a problem. And obviously an invented one - creating an ideal that someone could never live up to 🤔 Just saying, so for all of us, think about what impresses you, what you feel is wrong about yourself or off the measure of perfect and assess for yourself whether or not that truly makes sense to you, and if you weren’t worried about THOSE things who would you be? And what would you do with your life?
