percy : h2o + mako mermaids (he religously makes stelle watch them with him once she's older) , he also really likes teen beach movie + austin & ally (reminds him of him and annabeth). he's a great spiderman fan too, had a hyperfix on it as a kid and it came back SUPER STRONG when atsv was released, he was devastated when he couldn't infodump annabeth about it

annabeth : THE SIMS !!!! she got her dad to buy her all the DLCs of the sims 4 as compensation for how he treated her. i think she would also love the new york times games if they were more dyslexia friendly (you know when she gets absolutely furious at the sphynx in tbotl bc the questions are stupid? that's how she'd react to connection categories)

grover : he would love animal crossing new leaf and new horizons so much! i also think he would lend happy home designer to annabeth but she would get frustrated at how little you can personalise the houses. he also really likes deltarune and the concept of goat boy helps blue mc with single-mother reminds him of him and percy

nico : pokemon, but specifically the card game. will tries to introduce him to the game many times but nico is horrible at managing a console so after lots of frustration he goes "i wish it came it card format" and will is just like "OH!" he also really likes animation because he was alive during its beginnings, so i think he could be just familiar enough with it but not enough not to be super excited with every one of the new techniques that have been developed

rachel : she has watched tangled many many times. obviously she has a devianart / tumblr account. huge huge fan of the spiderverse movies (was the one percy infodumped about it) and adventure time (the opening of fionna & cake is her morning alarm). she is also a loona stan (after becoming friends with annabeth she asked for help figuring out the loonaverse and accidentally got annabeth into them as well, but rachel is more into the music while annabeth just focus on the lore)

tyson : when i was maybe 8 i had this nintendo game about horse riding that i am sure he would love. ALSO MLP!!! twilight reminds him of annabeth!!

will : TRIGUN !!!! SOMEONE LET THIS BOY READ TRIMAX!!! + he loved hannah montana, he still owns the cds and the climb is his favorite song.

bianca : would have loved christian girl k-pop i just know

clarisse : she grew up watching shonen anime. i don't watch a lot of shonen but i'm personally gonna say she likes one piece so when she got the quest on tsom a part of her kept going "omg one piece reference." she also thinks jojo's is the most hilarious piece of media to ever exist.

crooked man – “the girl with better clothes”

trying to tie up a few (far too many to mention!) loose ends before the end-of-year lists for your delight. “the girl with better clothes” arrived a few months ago now as recommended by my good friend christoph, and is a fun, upbeat, punchy little affair from uk dj richard barratt in his latest incarnation as crooked man via the mighty dfa records.

it’s playful and joyful as it chugs effortlessly and effervescently along with its squelch synth stabs, laid-back rhodes piano groove, taut electro percussion, and delightfully aloof and addictive vocal from fellow sheffield-er rachel e. it’s this combination of barratt’s infectious house party with her well-jel-yet-similarly-not-all-that-bovvered narration that gives the track its distinctive charm. amidst the accompanying array of “wooo”s and “yeah”s, there’s some lovely lyrical touches and smart delivery – her “my my my”s are gorgeously off-the-cuff while “everything you want, she got; everything she got, you want” and “she’ll out-dress you into oblivion, you’re one hour out of date” are both delectable lines. indeed, rachel e inhabits this convincing persona with suitable presence and a healthy dispassion reminiscent to that of johnny jewel’s team of fine lady-observer-chanteuses. throughout the production retains an edgy yet accessible quality, and the breakdowns are slick and enticing. 

the rest of the crooked man self-titled album is equally enjoyable, and i’ll leave you with a couple of extra highlights to transport you back to heady, house-ian, halcyon days of yore. personally “scum (always rises to the top)” takes me straight back to my first ever 7″ single, steve “silk” hurley’s “huh!”-infused “jack your body”, while “happiness” conveys a brothers in rhythm / sabrina johnson piano-tinged joy. it’s this sort of implicit and reverential nod plus production panache that gives the album its sense of familiarity and drive while still feeling fresh-faced and new. so get amongst it, people!

Rachel is about to enter her second year. During her first year with us, she made her fantastic debut at the Southern Cup, stood out as a beater with such a grip that you’d suspect she had claws, and helped keep our less-controllable Nifflers under control - to the latter, you know who you are! So, let’s delve into more detail! (Side note: also, has anyone else been inspired to watch or read Les Miserables again after meeting her? This is literally being typed to with ‘Do You Hear The People Sing’ in the background.)

This picture is a dangerous sight. It’s hard to imagine which Nifflers you’d less like to see walking towards you, armed with bludgers, than this quartet. Rachel herself is a bit of a dodgeball demon, often one of the last standing.

I Can’t Believe It’s Not Katherine!: The one on the left is Rachel. The one on the right is Katherine. Some people struggled with this concept at first. Hence Rachel’s wonderful shirt name clears up that mystery!

Though whether you’re Rachel or Katherine, or even someone else, it’s fun to tease Sam!

Rachel perfectly sums up the team.

On the pitch: Memorably, Rachel was once described by Tim as “very annoying… no, I meant that in a good way!” A fierce beater, she is a diminutive but very strong player. If the opponent beaters have bludger possession, she will latch onto one of the bludgers with a lock-tight grip, then pull hard to snatch it off them. This is effective enough for her to take back possession, or otherwise provide such a distraction for her target that they can’t interact with the rest of play - hence her team role! Meanwhile, she is elusive herself, difficult to hit with a bludger, as there’s a strong chance she will catch it instead.

Off the pitch: In contrast to her sharp playing style, Rachel is a laid-back, kooky teammate, with an affable personality that gives a warm vibe to practice! Her droll humour and great sense of fun add to the amusement of practices, tournaments and socials - she has particularly comical responses to Pink Tom, which is an art form in itself for our team. While she gives out an aura of being calm and cheery, her passion for her interests leave no doubt (and luckily for us, Quidditch is one of them!). Nice to and about everyone on the team, Rachel is not a teammate to be forgotten!
